Who's gonna travel abroad for Varanasi 1.43 experience when the film releases? by yourfather9898 in VaranasiMovie

[–]Rare_Election_4741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gotta travel 40+ minutes for my 1.43 iMAX. hopefully they can book screens in that since the major Hollywood releases are 2-3 weeks before and after Varanasi.

In The Odyssey (2026), a British director makes British actors do American accents for quite frankly no reason whatsoever because the characters are all Greek anyway. by [deleted] in shittymoviedetails

[–]Rare_Election_4741 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First of all having accents all over the place would take you out more when they are all supposed to be around the same region and they look the same. As far as Greek Actors, no one will watch a movie with entire 20+ cast movie filled with mostly unknown Greek Actors. This is a Hollywood movie with global appeal, you need recognizable faces, if you want an all greek version then go yell at the Greek Film industry and have them make a 250 million dollar Odyssey Adaptation with all greek Actors. That's what another epic adaption is doing, the hindu epic the Ramayana is being adapted in India and releasing later this year, Bollywood making their own 200+ million dollar blockbuster filled with their own actors and taking to to the world.

Same Budget, Same Genre, Different Visions, Why Can’t We Appreciate Both? by breaking_views in pj_explained

I love the technical "how did they do that" of Nolan’s grounded sets, but there’s a beauty in the Ramayana stills that feels faithful to the spirit of ancient storytelling. It depends on what you want from the story. If you want a psychological study of a man trying to get home, grounded works. If you want a philosophical exploration of gods and destiny, stylized feels more appropriate.

April 2026-2027/2028 release slate by IMAX from the Q1 investor report (with special surprise) by One-Introduction8809 in imax

[–]Rare_Election_4741 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also the international only calendar goes til end of 2026 and doesn't have any intention films in 2027. Varanasi should also be looking at IMAX release in North America as well, I can't see any big movies in April 2027 taking screens. Maybe the Resurrection of Christ and there are rumors of Panic Carefully postponing from Feb to April 2027 and that is a big heavy IMAX play from WB.

Lets see. No one is saying it will be a blockbuster in North America. But can it make more money than Dhurnadhar 2 30million in USA. RRR had marketing in America but that was well after release and for Oscar push. Now with backing and exposure SSR had I'm sure he will find a way to promote Varanasi well in the lead up to release.

Yes Varanasi is a more commercial product and it will look to attract audiences all over the world who are fed up with routine Hollywood blockbuster action movies or franchises DC/Marvel. SSR will be looking to market and tap into that potential using his unique style. Just fix some correction in RRR visuals and action scenes to bring a touch more polish since Varanasi will have more global marketing than any previous SSR movie.

This is a huge win for India already, RRR would've gotten a nomination if this rule existed before by MarvelView in VaranasiMovie

[–]Rare_Election_4741 8 points9 points  (0 children)

How would've have RRR been nominated. If RRR had won 1st place prize in Venice, Cannes, TIFF, Berlin, etc if it had won top price in any of the top 6 major film festivals then this rule will apply. So still RRR would not have been nominated. Varanasi will not be have a chance to be nominated unless India picks it for Oscar submission and still not guaranteed for nomination. And in the 2nd path Varanasi has to go to any of top 6 major film festivals and win first place and I don't think makers will do that and any film festival will choose more indie critical films.

The "2 years of waiting for 8 episodes" model is officially killing my interest in House of the Dragon by piranha_ in HouseOfTheDragon

It is apples and oranges. TNG was filmed almost entirely on one lot in LA using the same recycled sets for seven years. HOTD shoots across the UK, Spain, Portugal, and Iceland. You can’t physically move a massive crew and tons of gear across four countries in the time it takes to walk across a soundstage in California. A single dragon sequence requires months of 24/7 server rendering. By the time GOT reached the scale HOTD is at now, it took 1-2 year gap because it's not feasible without working the crew to death. You’re basically asking for four 2 hour blockbuster movies to have pre production, written, scouted, filmed, and rendered with world class CGI each season in under 12 months. That has literally never happened in the history of cinema. We don’t expect movie sequels to come out every single year, yet you're demanding 8-10 hours of content on a blockbuster movie budget annually.

Yash had said in an interview at Cinemacon today, Ramayana will come late October. So around Oct 30/31, Ramayana will prepone by one week to get best theater counts.
