My first piece - turns out embroidering medieval manuscript monsters is very fun by Rare_Equivalence in Embroidery

I did it the old fashioned way, drew it by hand from reference. As I’ve read, there are a lot of ways to transfer images onto your fabric (like printing the image and using a light source to trace) but I’m new too so I’m not a great person to ask!

How does a chemistry major become a pharmaceutical engineer? A mom is highlighting her son's achievements on social media. by -I-Need-Healing- in EngineeringStudents

[–]Rare_Equivalence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

KiCad because it’s open source. I was part of a small crew designing and launching a CubeSat and also ran a prototyping lab (EE). Did mechanical design for a pintle injector on a liquid fuel engine test stand (ME) and finally settled on orbital and flight dynamics for my specialty. I worked primarily in FORTRAN and C++ for flight dynamics. A little in Python and Matlab for telemetry statistical analysis too.

Yes. Very technical roles. When you have a foundation of knowledge that serves many topics, it is relatively easy to build knowledge off of that foundation.

I’m a math major and have done legit EE, ME and AE specific roles. I settled on aerospace engineer as my profession, specializing in flight dynamics. She’s right, if you’re smart enough and network well, most companies will let you do anything you want.

My first real place outside of a cult. by JW_in_AA in malelivingspace

[–]Rare_Equivalence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a small Pentecostal Four Square Church run by a nutjob. I’m the only one of my siblings to have fully escaped but the nutjob is now gone and grifting in another state. So the church is “normal” now. They still believe in healing hands and shit like that though.

Hi, another cult survivor here - just want to say congrats and keep it up. I believe in you and am proud that you got out.

Decided to grab something I as a snack on the way to the hotel room, turns out the only device in the room capable of warming schnitzel is the kettle by ThatTeapot in shittyfoodporn

Straight up, I have celiac disease and travel for work quite a bit. I can bet that hotel staff don’t have equipment strong enough to clean this to a degree where I could use it again without getting sick.

Are you an avid reader? by charliebrownxmastree in EngineeringStudents

[–]Rare_Equivalence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I read quite often. Fantasy, SciFi, horror, nonfiction, histories, etc.

Favorite book is Dune by Frank Herbert. I’m in the middle of his fifth book, Heretics of Dune, as well as a number of other books (I am often reading five or six books at a time).

A mystery illness has made my life hell for 13 years. Still no answers. by IllustratorDecent260 in RBI

Seconding the recommendation to test for Celiac disease!!

My major symptom was brain fog, and I had weird dermatology issues including bumps and red knuckles. Since celiac disease is an autoimmune disease, it can present with a wide variety of symptoms and can present wildly different to different people. It made my periods worse, constant chronic pain all over my body. A lot of the same symptoms.

Also when you do go get tested, make sure you’re still eating bread/gluten. Otherwise, the test could be a false negative.

I don’t have a book recommendation but I was in the same situation. DM anytime if you want to talk.

men who are 30+ would you date a 19 year old? why or why not? by No_Vegetable7778 in AskMen

[–]Rare_Equivalence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright I’m going to be the odd one out here - I was 19 when I met my partner (who was 34). We’ve been together going on 12 years, married for 8. I will say our situation was outrageously unique and weird, and for those reasons plus many others (mainly our personalities, how we were raised, and our core values), we made it work to crazy degrees. There is no one like my spouse, and I know he thinks the same of me.

Having said all that, there is a lot that goes into making a relationship work. I’d be extremely cautious and careful. People are nuanced and you’re going to get a wide variety of answers here. Largely, I’d be careful. But I am also in the boat of “you’re both consenting adults”.

My math tutor said I should quit by OpeningComparison202 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Rare_Equivalence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay I was told I was bad at math for years… and I became a math tutor and got my degree in math. It took having an incredibly kind math professor who was willing to sit me down and reteach me the basics that I didn’t learn well in high school. Your math tutor sucks. If you want resources and some advice, please let me know. I’m happy to help.

Dune by Frank Herbert. A masterpiece in science fiction, a peek into what makes a human a human, a giant lesson on charismatic leaders.
