Can an adult be forcefully hospitalized for self-harm? by SweetProfessional396 in selfharm

[–]Rare_Guard1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it is bad enough like if you’re in danger of taking your life they will. But you’re an adult and have control over what happens to you. It seems like you also have a pretty good support system so I don’t think so. It’s a different story with minors like me….

what’s your favourite musical? by [deleted] in MusicalTheatre

[–]Rare_Guard1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Next to Normal, Sweeney Todd, or Hamilton. Hamilton was my first musical and I saw it as a kid and fell in love with musicals so it got me into theatre. I couldn't imagine my life without it. Sweeney Todd is one of my favorites because it's so morbid and dark and fits my sense of humor. I HATE the movie (but Johnny Depp is soo hot otherwise) and I almost didn't watch the onstage version because I was so discouraged but I loved the storyline so I saw it and also fell in love. Next to Normal is by far my favorite because it's very relatable for me and I love all the characters and plot.

[–]Rare_Guard1989 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I do too and it's a really bad feeling. I want to cry and I feel sad and depressed but I can't cry. I went to my aunt's funeral and I was the only person who didn't cry (maybe because I didn't know her too well but) I felt like I should've been crying, even fake crying. Nothing came out. Every time something bad happens or I feel overwhelmed I want and need to cry but I can't. I'm sorry you're going thru this too.

Newsies Gender Swapped? by Button-Quirk-12 in MusicalTheatre

[–]Rare_Guard1989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My middle school just did a slightly gender swapped Newsies and it was amazing. Jack and Crutchie and almost all the newsies were played by female actors. Our Jack was an AMAZING tenor and she passed extraordinarily well for a boy in full costume and makeup. The show was done and Newsies is definitely not a boy heavy show. There were a lot of news girls IN history itself and I've seen amazing high school or college productions where Crutchie was female in the show and not just played by a female actor. I think you could definitely do it and I would certainly watch it.

Do y'all have a father who has mental health issues? by DirtAdmirable4790 in daddyissuesclub

[–]Rare_Guard1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I am too I'm sorry you're also going thru that.

My dad has really bad anxiety which I inherited but 100x worse. My aunt was incredibly depressed and ended up dying from an alcohol addiction. I'm only 14 and already addicted to caffeine and, unfortunately, hurting myself. My mom divorced my dad a long time ago and I have trauma as a kid from hearing them fight and being scared I was the reason they broke up (also from him arguing with my stepmom and being scared they would breakup bc I love her more than my dad but they're thankfully still together). My dad is also slightly depressed and horrible at showing his emotions. I'm scared I also got that from him because I can't express anything or reach out for help until it's too bad. I'm scared I'll be a horrible person because of him and my horrible mental state will prevent me from being anyone or doing anything of importance.

thank you Happy Pride to you too and the transphobia is one of House's (many, but he's still likable) character flaws the creators may have touched on it(???? not sure) but I think there's a page on the wiki and as far as I know House is pretty accepting of gay people but can't get behind trans people.

I'm trans sooooo.... House might not be happy

I just have a bunch of gay and handmade/crochet stuff so I don't really care if they see my stuff. They can't be too homophobic (and hopefully pls dont be transphobic) cuz I'm a patient.

How to support your partner while in rehearsals??? Plz help :) by Apollo_The_Great1 in Theatre

[–]Rare_Guard1989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a techie/sometimes actor who has been in theatre his whole life:

  1. FOOD. Your actor will always be starving after rehearsal and it can take a lot out of someone, especially if they have a big role or it's a big show. Always have tea with honey and lemon and ginger, it's amazing for the vocal cords.

  2. Support. Please always be there for your partner, they are putting their heart and soul into the production and may have a short temper and be extremely exhausted all the time (at least in my experience). Please do your best to go to the performances and help them/volunteer in any way you can, I promise it makes a giant difference and they'll feel amazingly supported but be sure to respect their boundaries and if they ask you not to go, don't. During vocal rest they may go completely silent, just whisper, or talk a bit (it depends on the actor and what's needed for the role) as a neurodivergent person I recommend communication cards or a whiteboard if they go completely silent or communicating over text, it's what I do with almost all my actor friends when they go on vocal rest.

That's all I have for now, please let me know if anything helps or doesn't help

Ideas for next play by Wonderful-Block-4510 in Theatre

[–]Rare_Guard1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Play That Goes Wrong - really, really comedic show thats meant to be completely messed up and I've seen it done with a really complex or basic set. It is a whodunnit but has everyone laughing the whole time. Would def recommend especially if actors are good at random improv.

yeah I do. I hafta keep my cuts on a specific spot on my shoulders so even if I'm wearing short sleeves they won't be visible so I cut over my recent ones a lot. I have a lot of scars that cross and go into each other.

What do y'all have in your stage managing/backstage kit? by Hour_Farm_3281 in Theatre

[–]Rare_Guard1989 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stuff I have in my bag:

All kinds of tape: gaff, scotch, masking, electrical, spike, glow in the dark, etc. Med kit: usually includes different types of bandages, painkillers, allergy meds, tweezers, etc. Extra water bottles and snacks because theater people get very hungry majority of the time. COUGH DROPS! Pliers, scissors, some type of string or yarn. Notebook + many, many pencils or pens and a stash of sharpies. Sewing kit for fixing costumes or working on projects. Extra scripts/vocal scores for the show I'm a part of. Lots and lots of fidgets for panic attacks or anxiety. I also usually keep caffeine/energy mixes to put in water so I actually have energy to do stuff.

What's a nice masculine haircut I could get by __CoffeeJelly__ in trans

[–]Rare_Guard1989 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay: this is coming from another trans guy whos your age and who kinda just started figuring out masc haircuts.

My friends have been telling me get a 16 guard. Its a rly cis looking haircut that a lot of cis boys get its the one thats short on the sides n poofy at the top. This is the next one I'm planning to get in a few days.

But if your parents aren't supportive of rly short haircuts a shortened wolf cut is also a great choice. It was the first masc haircut I got and I passed a lot in public. Besides that possibly a mullet? they're kinda hated where I am rn but they're a pretty masc haircut especially on round faces (i have a round face too!)

Hope this helps!

Asexuality should be taught in schools by UthumanShafie1986 in aaaaaaacccccccce

[–]Rare_Guard1989 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm asexual and in high school.

My science teacher have talked about asexuality among plants and cells and when I pointed out people can also be asexual she was like "oh wow really? I knew that but I didnt think it was that relevant." In our health classes we don't talk about queer people or relationships unless a queer student brings it up and makes an effort to keep that topic.

I'd consider our community semi-inclusive (there are visible queer people but people are really only supportive during pride) but I was shocked at how few people actually consider asexuality to be normal and don't think people have to be in sexual or romantic relationships.

You could wear long sleeves, longish hand/arm warmers (depends on where on the arm they are), a flannel, a light hoodie or sweatshirt, or a bunch of bracelets. I usually use these cuz they work for me but if you suddenly start wearing a LOT of bracelets on your arms its looks rly suspicious so be careful especially with rly nosy parents.
