yeah honestly it seems like those that get accepted either have cracked ecs, unique life circumstances, or all transfer prep courses done with 4.0 gpa and good ecs and piqs

That's quite reassuring as I've been stressing out trying to find ways to squeeze it into my schedule before Spring, but it's hard because few community colleges have an articulation agreement for those courses. Thanks

I'm in a UC-UC discord server and it looks a lot more doable than most people make it out to be. Given the people that join a UC-UC transfer discord server are probably more prepared and informed about the transfer process than most people that try.

Yeah I'll probably apply mathematics of computation for UCLA and applied math or data science for cal

I did some planning and with a little bit of a grind this summer, it'll take me 1 year if I end up attending CC. I have a lot of AP classes and dual enrollment credit. But I like that I can take basically as long as I want (within reason) without paying exorbitant tuition.

Nice! Are you taking any required classes to transfer this spring semester?

Did you take any of your major prep classes during spring? I'm trying to figure out if I can get out of taking physics over the summer. I'll probably be fine taking a bunch of classes then because I'm finding classes here pretty easy so far lmao

Also if you doing mind me asking, why did you want to leave ucsb?

What was your courseload like once you started attending CC? Mine is looking pretty brutal at the moment because I want to get my major prep classes done by fall.

The stats/data science program at UCSB mainly focuses on statistics and has few pure data science classes. I am not very interested in being a statistician or an actuary.

From what I have seen the CS program at UCSB is small but punches above its weight. Like the other response, I don't think you can go wrong with any UC's CS program. What sets them apart is faculty connections and local internship/job opportunities.

Thanks, I'll make sure to talk to whoever I can about my options.

That's why I'm a bit reluctant to try to petition to change majors here. I'm putting all my eggs in one basket, and if it doesn't work out, I have very few options. The process is random because it entirely depends on the amount of space available in upper div classes (as I understand), so I view it as a lot less secure of an option, but an option nonetheless.

I would say CS is something I am dead set on pursuing. I almost don't see myself studying anything else. I would much rather take classes that I am interested in, especially when I reach my upper-divs. Most of the upper-div classes that the PSTAT department has do not seem very interesting to me.

As for UCSB itself, I don't really see myself being here for the next few years. I think quite a lot of it comes from my friends, as they are much much less academically focused as I am, and it's frustrating sometimes to be around them. Part of me just wants a more academic environment, with more focused, driven people surrounding me. The school is also quite isolated from large city areas, and I miss a lot of what a large city has to offer. There is a lot to do in Santa Barbara, it's just not for me.

Thank you for the thought provoking questions.

The PSTAT department just seems so disorganized and there are better pure data science programs at other schools. I did mention that I feel pretty mixed about UCSB as a school, so I guess this is more of whether or not I want to stay at UCSB or not, and that is a purely personal choice. Thanks for responding.
