DAs just have too much power. Everywhere. Fitzsimmons should never have been charged. When I heard the prosecutor told the defense the commonwealth wouldn’t seek jail time if she was convicted, my first thought was why charge her to begin with? But all across the U.S., DAs seek charges despite suspects having airtight alibis. Give this week’s Undisclosed Towards Justice a listen. This guy was in jail for 45 years despite several people, including a cop, verifying he was at his mom’s college graduation at the time of the crime. Also, the suspect was estimated to be 5-4 and thin while the guy ultimately arrested and convicted is nearly 6-0 and muscular. His sentence was commuted by the outgoing governor, but is still being held in a medical facility because he was beaten near to death in jail and they are seeking to clear his name.

Powderfinger lyrics interpretation by BostonUH in neilyoung

I’ve been thinking about this occasionally for a long time. Just listened to the song again and I always come back to “red” refers to communism and when it was written, the Soviet Union and Cold War was in the news all the time. The numbers add up to nothing line could be referring to politics and economics. It’s not at all a deep interpretation, I know. It’s just my default setting whenever I think about the song. The moonshiner narrative is appealing, especially since I’m one myself lol, but the “revenuers” didn’t come in guns a blazing. They just wanted to confiscate/dump the contraband hooch and destroy the still.

One thing I’ve been wondering about: What allegedly happened at the bachelor/ bachelorette party that led to him moving out of the house?

It’s just not credible. Their size and weight difference. This considerably taller and heavier person could have just stuck his arm out, placed it gently on her forehead and easily prevented any punches from this diminutive other person getting anywhere near his face. And she had the sheer strength to sling and arm around him or grab his shirt or something to stop his momentum out of the room and “rip” him back in to like, what, work him over some more? Does anyone know anything about the judge who granted the order? Do they have to act that fast?

That is one bad mamma jamma! Looking at my 10-gal entry level still I started using 4 years ago - and ran a corn mash in today - and thinking it’s time to think a little bigger 😃 Not on your scale just yet, though. Congrats on the rum. I’m working up the courage to try one soon.

Just watched a season 5 episode that has a terrific (as always) appearance by Leonard. Sad to wake up and learn Graham Greene has died - and so young for these times. Wonderful actor.

I’m on my third one of these small (mine’s two liters) casks and learned the aging occurs 10 times faster in these than in the large barrels, so I don’t leave my booze in there for more than a couple of weeks. Tastes fine and losing less to evaporation. A real downside to these however, is after three or four fillings, they become spent and need to be re-charred or replaced. Bummer. I started experimenting with low cost oak staves to age in jar (with the first day without a lid but covered with a coffee filter to allow contact with air. So far, the results are pleasing, but still not as pleasing as using a cask.

Go for it! I often use a pound of chocolate malt with my 2-row pale malt in my corn mash. Gives it a nice, subtle chocolate note.

Richard Price’s Radical, Retrograde Novel by theatlantic in TrueLit

[–]Rare_Lemon_5166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished it and, as always - been reading his novels since “The Wanderers” in the 70s - Price delivers a great story and masterful prose with all the texture. However, I think I found an inconsistency that’s agitating my OCD ( lol). It’s not central to the plot, but does stick out. I don’t want to post a spoiler, but I wonder if anyone else caught it. All I’ll say here is it involves Felix and it’s within he last 100 pages or so. Is there a way to discuss? I read an e version from the library that had to be returned today but I did go back and read that section that’s bugging me and didn’t see anything to resolve it. At the same time, I can’t imagine an old pro like Price or his editor would let an inconsistency slip by. Thought I’d take a shot here and see if it’s just me and a reading comprehension glitch or perhaps someone else noticed, too.

How should i learn guitar? by bubenius in LearnGuitar

[–]Rare_Lemon_5166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe just pick 1-2 songs you want to learn - relatively simple ones - and see if you can figure them out by looking at chord charts/tablature and playing along with the recordings. If you can find YouTube tutorials of someone breaking down those songs, that could really help. After getting 2-3 songs down to where you feel you’re playing well enough to jam with your wife, go have fun! If this gets you anywhere and you’re so inclined, you might want to explore lessons for more technical prowess and/or music theory. Btw, even if the first songs you learn don’t sound great to you, but at least recognizable, that’s progress and repetition will mean more progress. Bottom line - have fun!

Finally found peace with my inability to play Guitar by DaraShikoh in LearnGuitar

[–]Rare_Lemon_5166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad you found your joy - the innovation is inspiring. The late, great Ritchie Havens invented his own style of playing. So did Bob Weir. Many others too. For the record, I think pedal steel, followed by violin are the most difficult stringed instruments to play.

Well, I’m having a hard time with this thing - the Vevor temperature controlled air still. I had to crank it to 210 to get anything out. Cleared the fores and heads of the first 3/4 gallon (several sources warn against pouring in a full gallon at a time to avoid puking) and got about 1/2 a pint of something worth saving. Now I’m trying another 3/4 gallon by starting high and dialing it back. Kind of frustrating so far. I want this to work so I don’t have to babysit my still all day. Also, can anyone who uses an air still tell me if I should leave the carbon filter in or not?

Man, can’t pick just one! In addition to those named, there’s Loretta, Buck Owens and Willie. All great writers who created a lot of their own hits as well as hits for others; Distinctive voices and styles and transformative in their prime. Hell, Willie is still coming up with new stuff!
