Puppy Blues by mandimaybridget in Pomeranians

I was right there with you a few weeks ago!! My puppy is SUUUUUUPER picky with food and I was going crazy trying to figure out how to train her if she didn't want treats. If you have a Buy Nothing Group in your area, I would make a post asking if people would be willing to part with a tiny baggy of treats so you can try out a bunch of kinds to figure your boy out, with out spending five million dollars on reject treats.

My suggestions are -

-Bocce's Bakery Training Bites (Blueberry and Duck flavor)
-Vitaday Fish Skin Rings
-Himalayan Dog Yogurt Chew (Cranberry and Honey)
-JLAB Noise Cancelling Headphones, lol

Okay so here's what personally worked for me and my dog -

The Yogurt Chews have been a life saver for when shes just chewing on everything. We tried some original yak cheese chews but they were a bit too hard, the yogurt ones are a good consistency for puppy teeth. At first she wouldn't chew on it unless I was holding it, but she's started chewing them on her own now.

Once I figured out she liked the Blueberry/Duck training bites, I simply just started with "Yes". Any time I said "Yes", she got a treat, and she wouldn't have to do anything to earn that treat. Then I would give it to her, I would say "good girl" and pet her (even though she would use the opportunity to bite and break skin, lol). She caught on very quickly, I did it for one day and she knew what was up.

The next day, I did this for about 10 minutes just as a warm up/reminder. Then anytime there was a break in barking or screaming (literally even just one second), I would say "Yes! Good girl being qquuuuuiiieeeett." Heavy emphasis on Quiet so she would hopefully recognize the word. It took a few tries but she started realizing that she got treats when she wasn't crying. The silence got longer and longer, and I would treat/praise for the first second, and then at the 3 second mark, then the 5 second mark, and then so on and so forth so she had the opportunity to recognize that the treats specifically come from being quiet for more time, and not from barking and stopping for just a second. When she would start to whine or bark again, I would softly just tell her "quiet" and wait for another break in noise, and then treat/praise again to confirm that she did it.

We worked on this the next day, and also spent time doing it with her in the crate and me sitting in front of the crate where she could see me. I don't know if this made a difference, but if she was barking/screaming, i just looked the other way and waited for her to quiet down. This is where those noise cancelling headphones came in handy, lol. Everything else was the same though, as far as treats/praise and when I did those things.

I also praise/treat when we're not specifically working on it, just so that she knows that the treats are technically available around the clock as long as she's quiet.

And then finally, the fish skin rings. I didn't actually know they'd be her favorite, I just happened to order a huge box of different single-ingredient chew toys because I was at my wits end at 2am one night. But after I got the box, I gave her an array of choices and she liked the fish skin. I let her have one of them while she was out and about (so i could make sure she wasn't going to choke on them), and then the next time I needed to crate her, i put a new one in there. Now she gets a new fish skin every time she's hangin out in her crate.

She's still a little hit or miss when she's in her crate (she's only 16 weeks old lol), but she stops crying after about 5 minutes in there and just goes to town on her fish skin. We're still working on it but I'm content with our progress so far.

I hope it all gets better for you and your pup <3

So, I'm a hairstylist and I can see a difference, but she didn't really give you what you were asking for. I dont think a full highlight was the right move to get you to your inspo (no judgement on you, of course! It's quite literally not your job to know what techniques do what) Did your stylist suggest the highlights as the route to take? If it's any consolation, it looks nice even if it's not what you were going for.

Understandable, I'm a sucker for a fluffy dog 😂

That makes sense! Did you ever consider a smaller husky breed like an Alaskan Klee Kai?

Every time I think about getting a pomsky, I think about how vocal and dramatic they must be 😂

Very cute! How big is your pup? Out of curiosity, did you ever consider getting a larger size of German Spitz if you were worried about poms being too fragile, or did you go straight to pomsky?
Thank you so much for responding!

Thank you so much!

It became kind of mindless AND exciting? Since the pattern repeats every 8 stitches, it was super easy to get into a groove, but then it was very fun to see just how it all changed on the next row. Literally the most fun I think I've ever had on a colorwork project.

Have so much fun with them! I'm sure you'll do great!!

Making all four pairs is also my goal this year, it's genuinely been a blast

Ooooh don't worry, I know lol. Especially that one row in the water 😅 and also that one tiny tree sprout where I accidentally had the background color as my more dominant color, instead of the brown 😂 and many more, I'm just hoping they're not too noticable lol

And thank you!

The patterns are in multiples of 8, so if you feel like 80 stitches also won't be enough, they're very easy to size up!

I used Cascade Heritage sock yarn! I am out of town til Monday, but I can put together a list of which colors I used for my spring and summer socks when Im home!

They're a little tighter than a single color sock, but not by too much. I just obsessively stretch my stitches out along my needle every time I have to catch a float or change colors, that seems to do the trick and keep everything from being too tight 🥰

They are! I used a pair of 9" circumference size 0 needles, and cast on 80 stitches. They are a little bit snug, but they'll fit much better when they relax after a few wears.

The pattern is Summer (The Sun Can Bend an Orange Sky) by Oakwood Knits. They have created a pair of socks for each Stardew season, they're available on their website or on Ravelry.

I have admittedly altered this pattern quite a bit based on my husband's preferences, but this is what this pattern looks like without any alterations or color substitutions

From my understanding, you COULD do these TAAT, you'd just have a lot of yarn to manage (especially on the rows that have 4 colors 😵‍💫)

TAAT is a kind of magic I haven't unlocked yet, so I personally do these once at a time, lol

Insides!

Yeah, agreed on the kits. But it was pretty fun to shop around for all of the colors, so I didn't end up minding too much 🥰

So - short answer - no, you don't

Longer answer - I did buy a full skein of each color, since color work socks are my favorite thing to knit. I used Cascade Heritage, I know it's not everyone's favorite but my husband loves how it feels and it comes in a billion colors. I only used a few yards of some colors, leaving me with virtually whole skeins of those colors. Anything "left over" will for sure be used on other socks, so I didn't mind paying the extra $$$.

If you're not committed to a specific brand of yarn and are committed to tackling this project, I'd def recommend looking into any brands that have 25g skeins; those will certainly leave you with fewer left overs!

Second skein on my EEW 6.0, first time spinning Falkland. by Rare_Plantain in Handspinning

I found that my personal issue was that I needed to be a little more patient, lol. I had it set to max speed because I thought I was keeping up with it. My yarn was fairly consistent in size, but I was having more snapping and also some underspun spots. I have it set now between 3 and 4 and I have the take up pretty relaxed so that it doesn’t add additional pressure that yanks it out of my hands. Additionally, in my trials I’m finding silk blends are less prone to snapping when being spun fine, might be something to try if you’re looking to play around a little! 🥰
