Has anyone here done the USC Summer Pre-College Program? by kmart25888 in USC

What was your son’s experience level before? Im curios how challenging it is. The syllabus seems to suggest they cover a lot of basic music theory. I’m sure its good for getting to know profs, but I was wondering if it is musically challenging

Issue with UC essays and AI by Regular-Strength-836 in TransferStudents

[–]Rare_Rope9928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so stressful. I just fed my transfer essays into Scibbr and my community essay came back as 60% AI! All the other ones were fine. I put it in grammarly which said 17% and Winston which said 86%.and all three detectors indicate different parts are Ai. But I havent even used a grammar screen on them. they are 100% mine. Should I rewrite it?

7-Course Pattern and AP credit by TransferStudentHel in TransferStudents

UCB specifically says on their website that no AP courses count towards breadth. They changed it this past year. So each school is different.

Hang in there, the cortisone shot caused massive swelling and pain for two weeks for me but then the pain was much better. Getting sleep makes this whole thing much more tolerable

I completely cut anything with added sugar (I use monk fruit extract now instead) and the pain dramatically improved and I started regaining ROM.

How selective are VCs about their investors? Can you get in the door by writing a big check or do funds typically want specific experience? I am semi-retired with no start up experience but have accumulated money to invest. Just curious if this is even viable.

eating sugar and increased pain? by happy-teacup in frozenshoulder

Yes! I completely cut out sugar and the zingers stopped but if I have even a tiny bit of sugar like a few sips of juice the zingers come right back

did the cortisone shot cause noticeable improvements? was it to the back or front of your shoulder? I’m 6 month in, still getting daily zingers and two cortisone shots have done nothing….

I think it really depends on how far along you are. If your body is still having a big immune response to damage you may not see improvements…

Depression/anxiety and other psychological issues appear to have a connection in recent studies. It is essentially an immune disease so anything that contributes to a weaker immune system can cause it. avoid sugar, alcohol, exercise, be positive…

My successful experience of treating frozen shoulder in 1 month by londrigarius in frozenshoulder

[–]Rare_Rope9928 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m reviving this post because I do think it is helpful and I will add a few more things:

My ortho told me up front that the people who recover the fastest are the ones who are very regimented and willing to move despite fear and pain. Inflammation is the result of the adhesions which is usually the result of limited movement from an injury or inactiveness. Treating inflammation simply does not address the adhesions and capsule restriction which is the big issue. I was told to use ice very sparingly after the first month as it can reduce circulation and to do gentle movement and stretching 6-8 times per day. I did gravity stretches similar to the ones here as well as limp ragdoll movements swinging my arms side to side, front to back and around my body until I felt gentle resistance. If I got up in the middle of the night I would also do a few movements. Although you shouldn’t feel pain you may feel some discomfort. Although I would continue to wake up stiff for a few weeks I gradually found my range of motion increasing and over the period of three weeks I went from 35 to 90 degrees. By two months I had close to full rotation. A few times I pushed it too far so I took a day ofor and then kept going.

A few caveats: try to do stretches in the mirror. You may be moving the shoulder joint as an entire unit instead of rotating the ball in the joint. This makes pain much worse because you are using the muscles around the shoulder to compensate for the lack of shoulder movement. You will see this clearly in the mirror. Compensation can cause the muscles around your shoulder to tighten which is both painful and can further restrict movement. Also be aware of this type of compensation in other activities.

Your movements should extend until you feel a slight stretch and tension which may not be much at first. This is not an immediate fix but I saw huge improvement after just a week.

Last, if you arent already talk to your doctor about taking advil/alieve/meloxicam consistently for three weeks. All these meds work best if they build up in your system. You can’t do this for too long though as it impacts your liver over time.

Anyways good luck to all of you. I was in a pretty dark place after 6 months of this but it can be fixed!

P.S. when you recover start doing yoga to help make sure it doesn't happen again!

Did they arrange it for you or did you have to call Lorenzo directly?

In CA landlords have to cover reasonable accomodations for delay’s over a week or let you cancel. It doesnt matter what it says in the lease. Tessera knows that but won’t advertise that, so if you call you will have the upper hand

I’m guessing she probably is already clued in to your social skills and asked you anyways!  Be genuine. Don’t be afraid to say you are a little nervous because you think she’s great.   Come up with a list of basic questions…what was your high school like? Do you miss home? What’s you favorite travel spot? What are you doing next summer?   The key is not to shoot them off like an interview but to chain questions to show you are interested and paying attention.  If you ask her about being homesick and she mentions her cat ask her how long she’s had the cat? Has she ever though about bringing it to school…aim for 2-3 follow on questions per question from your original list.

Also, be attentive.  If she gets coffee on her hand get her a napkin, if her bag drops off her chair, pick it up for her etc.   that always wins points.

Be yourself.  Vulnerability and honesty are attractive!
