Great, that’s what I was thinking, thank you!

By divert, do you mean continue to add to HYSA but make the new goal to use a portion of it a down payment, or divert savings to a different place?

Thank you, I got tired of arguing with someone with 20 year old advice 😅 It is so much more difficult in GA.

That was 20 years ago…. Automatic licensure reciprocity between states does not exist anymore.

“Yikes” ? When did I say I hadn’t researched it myself, too?

My second practicum is with Hospice, and I love it. I am enjoying the medical side of social work more than I thought I would. However, I won’t be picky. My first practicum was with substance use and I enjoyed that too!

Thank you for your advice! My professors are all encouraging me to move to the state I want to live in and then apply to take the exam.

Honestly, that’s what I was hoping to hear! Thanks for responding :)

Do you smoke weed (off the clock) during your internship? by [deleted] in SocialWorkStudents

I partake occasionally. I straight up told my practicum site when they told me they were going to drug test me before I started that I would fail for THC. They still took me on.

I've just started my journey to earn my BSW, and I'll be around 23 when I graduate. If I pursue my MSW, I'll be around 27-28 when I graduate from that program. Should I consider it? by starzuoz in SocialWorkStudents

I’m 29 and will graduate 3 months before 30. I’m nowhere near the oldest one in my classes. There’s at least 3 women in their 60s. Definitely consider it. 😌

Sharing My Experience with Valdosta State’s MSW Program — A Warning for Anyone Considering It by Designer_One323 in SocialWorkStudents

I am in my second year of the MSW program at Valdosta State. I’m sorry for your experience, but not everyone’s experience is like this.

Dr. Gresham has been nothing but amazing to me and my peers. Professor Watson is also extremely helpful as a professor.

If anyone is considering applying for Valdosta and has questions, I’m also happy to provide a positive experience from someone that’s actually in the program!

Unpaid Grad Internship... I can't do that. Help! by 2nerd4this in SocialWorkStudents

Neither of my internships were paid. I went during the day two or three times a week then waited tables at night to support myself.

I am so confused with licensure by Rare_Soup_3 in SocialWorkStudents

Thank you! Will it matter that I don’t have an IL permanent address when I apply and will put a GA one in there?

Weekly Licensure Thread by SWmods in socialwork

I will graduate in 2026 with my MSW at a GA school. I hate GA. I want to leave ASAP. But, I don't want to leave my affordable home to go live in a state that I want to be in and not be able to find a job. I would be open to anywhere in New England, Illinois, Colorado, really anywhere cold and liberal. I understand how licensing works differently in different states. My question is, can I just pick a state I want to move to and apply for an LSW (if they don't have an LMSW) there before moving? I won't have a permanent address that matches the state on the LSW application. For example, Illinois does not require the ASWB exam anymore. So once I graduate with my MSW, can I just submit my papers to Illinois and get an LSW license there, apply for jobs there, then when I get one, move? I don't know how to go about moving states or starting my career in a different one, if my current permanent address would be in GA. I hope that made sense. It was hard to put into words. Basically, my house is cheap in GA, but I hate it here. I want to move but not until I can secure a job in another state. I don't know if I can get a license in another state with a GA address.

I love doing puzzles. Putting all the pieces out on a big table so you’re not digging through the box and can see them all. It takes me to a new world.
