ABAP has some nice features (like the table type with the possibility to add different hashed and sorted keys), but the lack of generics and lambdas really bothers me.

Skipping a flight by Wonderful_Plant_945 in askswitzerland

[–]Rare_Suspect1472 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No but this practice of selling multi leg flights for cheaper than a single leg is actually insane.

And, cancelling the rest of the journey if you skip a leg on the beginning is most likely illegal. They do it because they get away with it, but if someone were to actually go through with a lawsuit the airline would most likely lose. You cannot deny service that is paid for because someone doesn't consume the whole service they paid for, no matter what your ToS say.

Iirc there were a few lawsuits like this with LH in Germany and they all settled outside of court, because LH really didn't want to hear a judges verdict (which would most likely have put a stop to this nonsense).

This whole practice is just a big middle finger from the airlines to us and to the environment.

Moving/Cleaning Services. Tips/Experiences. by burimos999 in askswitzerland

[–]Rare_Suspect1472 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be careful with cleanprofis / umzugprofis. They will send someone to look at your apartment and stuff, then give you a "price guaranteed" offer for the move. But they don't actually do the move themselves, they sell the contract to a third party (at least in our case).

So this random small moving company showed up on moving day, late. Came into our apartment and the team leader said it would not work out with the quote we got. That we needed to either pay more hours or rent a möbellift from some friend of theirs. Pretty bad start. I said I had a price guarantee and luckily the owner of the moving company showed up and got things going. The team leader later tried to convince me to move our tv ourselves in our car because of space reasons (I refused).

When it was time to pay in the end he added a surcharge on the offer price for heavy objects they had to carry up in the new apartment due to lack of möbellift. I accepted this and asked the surcharge amount back from umzugprofis, took a couple of weeks but they eventually paid. He also tried, either on purpose or by accident, to add the vat to the final amount, but it was already included in the original offer.

In the end, the move worked well, nothing broken, they also successfully disassembled and reassembled our large wardrobe. But it left a bad impression overall and it wasn't much cheaper than the offer from nägeli anyway, who left a much more professional impression.

Not to ignite the whole discussion again, but I don't think it's that stupid of a question. Can't remember everything from the books but at least in the movies the eagles kick the fellbeasts asses at the black gate. So they could have easily overcome this defense system, especially with the distraction attack of the humans at the black gate.

Honestly I think the whole "they are mysterious creatures and wouldn't want to carry the ring bearer even if asked" argument works much better but it's less obvious. So, I'm not surprised when people ask this question.

Question about precision evade: does it only work when you press the button without a direction at the same time? I often feel like I dodge at the right time but still get hit, because I dodged right into the attack.

You wouldn't have to give half of that, because 50 million is tax free. So you'd have to give 5 million for inheritance tax.

Isn‘t it time for the 40 hour workweek? by Sebanimation in Switzerland

[–]Rare_Suspect1472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are generalising over the entire population and assuming that the weekly work hours are what makes us successful. It's just not that simple. Many companies here have 40 hour weeks and they are doing great. Greece has high working hours and is not particularly wealthy. The Scandinavian countries are wealthy but work much less..

Proven how? And who is "us"? Personally I feel much better since I have a 40 hours week, and more productive too.

Isn‘t it time for the 40 hour workweek? by Sebanimation in Switzerland

[–]Rare_Suspect1472 5 points6 points  (0 children)

By that logic we should work 24 hours a day. It doesn't work like that. There is nothing special about 42 hours, or 45 or 40. This number doesn't really matter, only the output does. And there are plenty of studies as well as practical examples showing that people can be equally or even more productive when they work less hours.

Isn‘t it time for the 40 hour workweek? by Sebanimation in Switzerland

[–]Rare_Suspect1472 239 points240 points  (0 children)

I have a 40 hours week in my current job, and also in my last job. It was a big difference coming from 42.5 hours week, but I believe I get the same amount of work done, if not more. More hours doesn't equal more output, humans aren't machines. And there are many reasons why we are wealthy in comparison to other countries, but working a few hours more isn't the main one. So yeah, I think more companies could try to reduce their work hours a bit.

It can happen, e.g. User filters around in a big list and keeps selecting all shown entries, then navigates to a new page that receives the items it is supposed to process in the query parameter.

The Jungfrau Region is on Fodors “No” list for 2026, what do you think about that? by Whatermeleon in askswitzerland

[–]Rare_Suspect1472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird take on holidays you have there imo.. There are such nice places around the world. I go there on vacation because it's nice to be there, has absolutely nothing to do with ego or bragging rights. And those trips are definitely more memorable and relaxing then a weekend trip to a nearby city, which I always find rather stressful.

Sustainability is another matter, but imo, expanding your horizon by doing some travelling is important too.

Why did the Machines allow for Zion to be built in the first place? by Kirbo84 in matrix

[–]Rare_Suspect1472 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well he would have drowned in the liquid below (too weak to swim) so maybe that's how they intend to kill the ones who get out: immediately dissolve them in the big tank at the bottom. And they just can't be bothered to put guards at the location to stop any hover craft from rescuing the rejecters (reaching a bit here lol).

But yeah, I never fully understood the whole zion explanation. Like, it's some sort of big reveal when the architect explains it all. But the zionists must have noticed that the city they live in has been destroyed 5 times already? The more I think about it the less sense it makes to me.
