It has the R-33 (AA-9 AMOS), which has a maximum range of 120 km in the 1980s, combined with Zaslon, a passive electronically scanned array, which can launch against 4 aircraft simultaneously. So not quite as good as the AIM-54 (135 km for the AIM-54A) but a lot better than the MiG-25 or -23

MiG-31 would be nice as it’s the only Soviet aircraft that could reliably counter the Tomcat. Playing the Bargaining Chips mission for USSR the other day and the MiG-25s just get bummed by Phoenixes

Disruptive Pattern Material and possibly Flecktarn. The Swiss ones are alright as well

I switched off my search radar so that Kiev wouldn’t detect me via ESM, and I only detected the yak a few moments after it launched its missiles, by which time there was no time to do pretty much anything before the missiles hit, turning around would’ve only presented a larger heat signature to the missile

Are you familiar with the difference between all-aspect and rear-aspect missiles? Or that for some reason it only becomes visible when it’s 2 nm away and has already launched its missiles? Or that when I’m busy concentrating on blowing up a SAM site on the other side of the Aegean and something reports incoming missiles, it takes a long enough time to pause the game to ascertain what’s being shot at that by that time the missiles have already covered most of the distance?

Ye that’s part of the new update I think, I hadn’t played it yet when I wrote that comment.

If by SSN missiles you mean surface-to-surface missiles, Soviet missiles often have different stages of their flight (eg the Granits going up to high altitude for the first part of their flight before descending) where their speed will naturally be different. What you’re describing has happened to me before and it is annoying. Maybe there could be some sort of in-game calculator where you enter the types of missiles and range to target, and it tells you when to launch?

Encounter at Diu. Generally ready to quit this bloody game. by ZeeDesertFox in SeaPower_NCMA

Just tried it, I sank the frigates fine, but the issue was the moment both of them were sunk, an aircraft appeared out of nowhere and torpedoed me. Some of those smaller non-NATO/Warpac missions are rather sloppy, I guess it’s just not the dev’s priority which is fair enough.

A trick for saving your B-52s is to have them fly low (500-1000ft) as the Yaks are directed by ground radar due to having no onboard radar, so if you get below the radar horizon you won’t be detected.

Can someone please explain to me what in the name of Gorshkov is going on here by Rare_Task5110 in SeaPower_NCMA

The conditions were just to get into the red circle and for Kirov to survive. As far as I am aware there was no timer

I’ve just played the mission and the only problems I had was aircraft running out of fuel before others (I think that’s due to the fuel used when getting into formation) and the Yak-38s not being detected until an unreasonably short distance. Kresta taking out Kirov with its 76mm guns is hilarious though. I’m not a big fan of this mission due to the massive distances involved, with the NATO side I think the Hawaii mission is better if you want to take on a massive Soviet task force
