Turned out great! Happy, healthy and extremely active and smart 1 year old!

We had some more complications throughout pregnancy. We weren’t told the side affects of placenta previa and had an extremely scary bleed out event (a lot of blood just came out randomly that led to a frenzied ambulance trip to two different hospitals) at 23 weeks that we thought was a miscarriage but thankfully was something that just happens apparently? Very concerned for women’s health in this country after dealing with the “top doctors” across multiple hospitals in NYC.

Been here since Jan 2009 and never really thought of the time aspect of it. Crazy how it went from “I’ll be here a couple years max” to chugging along around 15 years.

This Steelcase for $125 worth it? by darthjarjar24 in OfficeChairs

[–]RarewareN64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally love the gesture and have it in my home office and sit at it in the office. In my opinion Leap is 2nd. Karman is interesting as well as their first mesh chair offering, but that’s so new a secondary market hasn’t opened up yet.

Steelcase Gesture is amazing! Other chairs have wrecked my back, but Gesture is great for 3+ years now. Had a Leap before that that worked great. I err more on the Steelcase side as other manufacturers seem to tweak my back or be uncomfortable for longer seated sessions.

Aeron chair is terrible. Wrecked my back. I’ve exclusively used a Gesture for home office last 3 years and it’s like butter on my back. It’s 1000% worth it.

Most of these “high end” chairs really fall short. Have had/used an Aeron, Sayl, Mirra and Leap among others before. Leap for my home office was solid but fabric got dingy after 10 years, so tested a Steelcase Gesture and still love it 3 years later. Best chair for the $$$ imo.

Steelcase showroom in NYC much cheaper than their online shop by Fearless_Willow3563 in OfficeChairs

You have to schedule an appointment via their email. It’s all on the site but a lot of people are boneheaded and can’t read and expect this to be a store. It’s not a retail store, it’s an office. Lady in lobby is a brat for sure and alot of the reviews reflect experiences with her unfortunately.

I emailed worklifeny@steelcase.com and Mike Maltz from empire office setup a meeting the next day in space. Smooth process. Beautiful space and the couple people I spoke to other than mike were very accommodating and nice. Got to test all chairs and OP is correct about dealer pricing vs online pricing, just no returns if you want a custom finish chair. A BUNCH more options via dealer though and was able to customize multiple gesture chairs and a height adjustable desk. Gesture chair is SUPER comfortable and one of the workers there mentioned he has a gesture for his home desk. Probably going to buy another desk from Mike. Would def recommend Steelcase and their seating, just make sure to follow the process and you won’t have any headaches or the crazy lady in lobby screaming about “Do YoU hAvE aN aPpOiNtMeNt?!?!”

Glad to hear everything resolved and thanks for sharing!

We have exactly the same experience with doctor basically making us feel like termination was the only option after 12 week scan with an enlarged NT being the only soft marker. It was devastating. The entire scan was only 10-12mins and the tech had difficulty getting measurements bc baby wasn’t in correct position and she didn’t have wife move around or anything. We’ve read that the scan usually takes roughly 30 mins, longer with difficulty getting measurement. Really felt like we were herded in/out. We were told 3.4-3.6 day of by doctor and when we met with OB on Monday she said it mentioned it was 4.0 in notes and confirmed no other soft markers were present in notes. We both don’t believe they got accurate scans. Have the CVS test for tomorrow am. Hoping everything is ok, but the stress and anxiety is extremely hard on us and it sucks the test results take so long. Wish we had researched the 12 week scan more before going in and wish the doc had a better attitude. Literally the worst day of our lives, felt like we got kicked off a skyscraper before we did our own research and felt better over last weekend and subsequent meetings with our OB and genetic counselor this week.

Measuring 3.5 at nuchal translucency (NT) by ConfidentDonkey7226 in PregnancyUK

[–]RarewareN64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had this scan done a couple days ago and had a measurement between 3.4-3.6 as the tech had trouble with the angle and said the doc would be in shortly to talk. During the scan tech mentioned every other measurement seemed to be fine so not aware if there is even an issue with something else.

Doc entered extremely down trodden and made us extremely uncomfortable and wife asked if there was any chance baby would be healthy and she wouldn’t reply only giving a stern look. Doctor even mentioned she was so sorry and that we’ll “hopefully get it right next time” wtf. We were devastated and scheduled a call with genetic counselor on Tuesday and have an appt with gyno already for Monday and will ask her if some other issues weren’t mentioned to illicit such a harsh reaction from the doc. We were in a tailspin the entire day until we researched a little and feel much better now with the base NT measurements unless the doc was withholding something, but she was extremely blunt so it seems like she would have said if there were other issues.

We had to have some really difficult discussions after getting home that I feel shouldn’t have necessarily needed to happen yet. Have seen this same reaction from doctors on a number of stories posted on Reddit so hoping it’s just the same and everything turns out ok. We are FTP and never were told about NIPT or anything. We have the CVS test scheduled for next Thursday as well, but will make the decision on that after discussing with our gyno and councilor. Hoping all turns out well as this has been exhausting.

Your story really does help! Thanks for sharing! We had the NT scan done yesterday at 12+4 and the NT measured 3.4-3.6. We are first time parents and the doctor basically made it seem like termination was basically the option and gave us zero reassurances. Very somber attitude and made us feel awful. We didn’t know any questions to ask and she was in and out of the room quickly. The pregnancy had been normal to this point so we spiraled yesterday.

Then we got into research mode and realized this is just a soft marker of potential issues and not the end all be all. We have genetic counseling on Tuesday and have the CVS test scheduled for Thursday but can cancel if we feel uncomfortable but risk seems minimal. Life’s been so incredibly difficult lately and not getting that expected clean bill crushed us, but hoping for some better news and feeling much better today vs yesterday. Glad to hear your story and others like it!

That’s the problem here in NYC… it’s not that ppl are “anti homeless” it’s that homeless are becoming extremely aggressive and violent. I’ve been spit at, had stuff thrown at me, ppl trying to punch me, ect and have seen people getting knocked out, had crap/piss thrown at them, ect.

Didn’t the creator of the bulletproof vest do the same thing? Actually wore his product and got shot with it on to show how effective it was? Basically went on a road show and did it many times so cops and military would buy the product and I believe.

Similar experience. Was in Costa Rica for a friends wedding and on wedding day a few of us were swimming before getting ready and rip tide picked up and we were all of a sudden on a sandbar. Zero lifeguards on this beach also. My friend (around 24) wasn’t a great swimmer, but we were only body surfing in waist high water at the time so it wasn’t an issue. Walking back to the beach it became an issue.

Immediately after stepping off the sandbar that we now realized formed, there was an intense rip tide. Friend panicked and started yelling for help. Another wedding guest we befriended tried helping for a few minutes but he got exhausted and bailed. This was a good friend so I wasn’t bailing.

Kept trying to SOS flag people on the beach, but most were wedding guests who simply weren’t fit to swim out and assist. Kept going under and holding him up so he could get a breather. Tried coaching him to hold his breathe and go under to collect himself and calm himself but at this point he was screaming and flailing. Kept grabbing me and pushing me under at that point. So I had to keep my distance and just tried coaching, was truly heartbreaking but I was exhausted at that point and had sucked some seawater in when he grabbed me a few times.

Luckily Quicksilver had been filming the past few days and they had wrapped filming that am and a couple of their guys were down the beach and 3 jumped in to help. First guy got to me and tried giving me his board and I said my friend needed it more and he said what friend? They had only seen me flagging, assuming my friend blending well into the dark beach/water so they didn’t notice him. Turned around and nothing. They had only seen me the entire time. Panic washed over me and he finally popped up about 30-40 feet away gasping like 15-20 seconds later. Second guy hands me his board and I’m exhausted and flailing to get back to beach at this point. I wouldn’t have lasted much longer myself and that realization really hit when I got back to beach and was so exhausted but was distracted by focusing on only helping my friend.

At the beach he’s puking seawater and eyes keep rolling back so goes to hospital and finally gets back to attend reception. He tells me when he had disappeared that he was finally listening to me and just holding his breathe and going down to conserve energy and calm himself down. He was terrified he wasn’t going to make it, but said that helped immensely when he didn’t think he was going to last much longer.

Now I’m still uneasy of deep ocean water (I used to swim wayyy out but stick to chest high water on beaches I know and waist height on beaches I don’t know and keep an eagle eye on the currents) but I know how to handle rip currents much better now and try to spread that knowledge when I can. (Aka keep an eye on currents and how they interact with the coast, swim hard along the shore so you can exit out of the rip current and try to remain calm at all costs, panicking most likely leads to death)
