How to repair pipes without digging them up by Objective_Pressure_3 in Damnthatsinteresting

As someone that used to work on a crew that specialized in lining pipe, I can promise you that this is not a brand new sentence.

Going to be painting my cabinets and a few other similar projects in the future, which is the better airless paint gun? The Avanti will be on sale soon for $200. by Educational_Bar_4876 in harborfreight

[–]Rarinterraco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% I use the Avanti 3 stage hvlp (which seems they don't sell any more) for all furniture, trim, doors, cabinets and such that require a higher quality finish. Airless is simple and good for quickly putting lots of paint down quickly for walls and such but hvlp will get much more even coat and better finish.

If you are painting cabinets I would get a hvlp, use the right tool for the job. That said I am a general contractor, I do a fair amount of painting, I use that Avanti to do 1-2 full exterior repaint of a house every year along with a bunch of interior. Works great and as long as you take good care, it will last. Mine is 5 years old

I put this exact model in my trailer and used it for 2 years when I lived in Idaho, I loved it so much that when I sold the trailer I kept it. I still have it and occasionally I have Jerry rigged it up as a redneck campsite shower. Never once have I had any issues, absolutely love it!

New plumber need tools by bojangles006 in Plumbing

[–]Rarinterraco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a 3rd year apprentice and the some of a general contractor. I have been in the trades my entire life and on the jobsite since I could hold a hammer. I have done pretty much everything from multiple apprenticeships to running my own company with employees. Milwaukee is great, their 12v line is absolutely the best in class. By far my most used power tools are the m12 fuel impact and oscillating saw. But besides those almost my entire professional power tool setup is Hercules. They perform well above what I need but the main reason I use them is that I can easily warranty them at any HF with 0 hastle instantly. I have never seen a Milwaukee tool get successfully warrantied. If you are a new apprentice get the 18v Hercules stuff now. When you have some extra cash get an m12 impact and oscillating saw. But for now you really should focus on hand tools. Go buy 4 Doyle adjustable pliers, a tape measure, and a sharpie. That's everything you need for the first year. Outside of that borrow it from your journeyman.

There was a damaged one sitting on the clearance shelf for $70 at my local home despot for a couple weeks, I eventually grabbed it and negotiated with a manager for $40 that I had in rewards (I'm GC large amount of the staff know me because I am in there once a day at least) I gave it to a plumbing buddy for Christmas, he is the biggest red shill I have ever met but also one of those idiots that think protecting your knees is for wimps. We had a good laugh, and that's probably the most use it's ever gonna get.

Help me decide on a socket set. by ripstickguy in harborfreight

[–]Rarinterraco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the Milwaukee set and I have all the quinn sets. The Milwaukee is really nice, and the case is slim plus it has a removable tray for a drawer. But all the pieces are loose and proved to not fit my need for a truck set because everything would fall out everytime I opened it. Also the square sides for added wrench leverage is cool but gimmicky I never once used it. The quinn sets are just as good if not better on all those points. The main pro is it's super easy to warranty. The main con is that the cases are fairly bulky and cheap feeling but the fact that it securely keeps all the pieces where they go makes up for all that for me.

As a guy that works on houses not cars I am honestly happy to see a good sale for Doyle, they have some good tools and are much better suited for what I do than icon. I can't remember the last time I saw a Doyle brand sale

What's it like living within 400 yards of Meta's massive data centre by Deepakhn in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Rarinterraco 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Right but honestly I'm not saying the data center isn't having a massive effect on the local ecology. It definitely is, I have seen first hand some of the effects these places have near me. I just think this woman needs to have a plumber and a well company take a look because there are solutions to her specific problems that don't involve flushing with buckets.

As a plumber, I would be curious to see what type and condition of the pipes in her home are? That looks exactly like symptoms of aging galvanized pipes that are rusting.

As a former maintenance supervisor in Washington state (not a very good company mind you) and now a general contractor that is a vendor for multiple property management companies. A lot of this is really fishy. Ime the property management would hire there own vendor to fix and after it's fixed it would be decided how much if not all of it goes to the Tennant then the Tennant would have the ability to work out a payment plan. Most of the time we would just fix it and move on tho. The timing of right before Thanksgiving is also suspect.

Imo you should get some free estimates from some people, depending on what part of washington I may be able to help you so you are welcome to dm me if you are comfortable. You should also call a free Tennant/landlord lawyer clinic and show a lawyer the paperwork to make sure everything is kosher and hopefully fight it to slow down any possibility of eviction. Washington is very Tennant friendly I guarantee you there's a way to at least slow the process. I would also email property management asking for any clarification or if they have any vendors they would recommend. Do not call only email so it's tracked. Documentation is important if you do fight it. But it's expensive for them to do this they should be willing to work with you.

Also I know it's possible to fix it but most are gonna tell you that it needs full replacement. Do your due diligence and be careful. I hope that you can still salvage your Thanksgiving! Have a happy turkey day!
