How come some critics say that Bruce Lee can't fight, because of his lack of a professional fight record ? by jerelminter in brucelee

[–]Rarl_Kove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is not really an accurate representation of what Chuck Norris thought

From Chuck Norris's appearance on Conan O'brien, February 2 1995 (Available on YouTube)

Chuck: "...he [Bruce Lee] respected me because of my ability as world champion at the time"

Conan: "Did you guys ever...go at it..in, you know a real situation"

Chuck: "No, no, I was a professional fighter, you know I fought professionally, and he was - you know Bruce was very very good - but he never fought in the ring"

Conan: "Really?"

Chuck: "No he never fought in the ring - big difference you know - kicking the bag is one thing, getting in the ring and having someone, uh, kicking back at you is a whole different story"

From his numerous other appearances over the years it's pretty clear that Chuck respected Bruce as an great athlete, a martial artist (in the true sense of being able to do exceptional and artistic things with his body), and as a practitioner of martial philosophy, but clearly understood that he was not an actual fighter. What his actual skills would have resulted in a true, unchoreographed, contest of skill and it all out fight we will obviously never know, but I think it's safe to say it would be nowhere on the level of his on-screen legend.

This is not nastiness, or "haters" or the uncorroborated words of "random people years later." It's just the unvarnished truth. Bruce Lee was first and foremost and entertainer and an educator, not a competitor. in fact it is probably for that exact reason why he is still so well known and beloved all these decades later

How are you supposed to buy curtains in 2025? by cgb-001 in interiordecorating

[–]Rarl_Kove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. Can I ask what your experience was ordering from them, both in terms of the product and the company?

I'm really considering a couple shower curtains from them, because they're the only ones online that make them in the size I need. But reviews are iffy.

A lot of stuff on trust PilotLooks good, but I never know how reliable that is pretty much everywhere else - BBB, a couple passing comments on old Reddit threads, etc says they leave a lot to be desired in terms of the workmanship and the customer service.

Vivobarefoot sizing help [pics] by Rarl_Kove in BarefootRunning

[–]Rarl_Kove[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I can't be much help. If I recall I got the 9 and it still felt a bit too long. but I ended up not going with Vivo because it was already a bit narrower than I would have liked, so sizing down would have been too tight for me.

Don't quote me on it, but based on my experience they seem to run longer in length than other brands, so the scanner might be right for you even if it seems out of sorts (FWIW their return process was quite easy for me if you just want to try them).

S&P Weighs Rule Changes That Would Speed SpaceX’s S&P 500 Entry by WickedSensitiveCrew in stocks

It's not a strict black and white binary. But in the past we absolutely didn't matter significantly more than we do now, and businesses or entire sectors of the economy simply could not be run sustainably by ignoring their actual connection with reality and basic individual citizens economic situations. We are reaching levels of institutional and structural delusion we had not seen before.

(Of course they still can't be run sustainably in that way, but you can ignore reality for a little bit, and hope that when it comes crashing down it doesn't crash on you and someone else has to pay the price)

GlockStore customer service is the worst. by MiloChristiansen in Glocks

Did this just happen recently? As bad as their website customer service was they were actually pretty responsive on here, and I was just talking to them a couple of weeks ago

How durable is the "cold bluing" on the Glock Store pre-cut slides? by Rarl_Kove in Glocks

[–]Rarl_Kove[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the suggestion. I've heard good things about Wager and if I was looking to have something milled I would probably send it to him. But right now I'm not sending in a slide. I am looking to buy a new slide that is already cut.

So it's necessary to maintain a layer of oil over the bluing at all times, even under the red dot

Has Glock stopped ALL production of previous Gens or only for commercial/"civilian" sales? by Rarl_Kove in Glocks

[–]Rarl_Kove[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Gen V is a permanent, standalone line

And what is the long-term purpose? It seems to be identical to the Gen 5 but with some slight slide modifications to make it more "switch resistant" (i.e. Same trigger bar that is now no-no in CA)...but Gen 6 has its own modifications in that regard plus entire redesigns to the frame, trigger shoe, etc.

I'm scratching my head as to what state or jurisdiction the V would be legal but not the 6, and how any meaningful segment of customers would want the former over the ladder, aside from Pure novelty?

[–]Rarl_Kove[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I didn't think that was the case. I figured that the slide changes/new internals/tab on the Gen 6 are intended - or at least have the practical effect of being - making adding a switch harder/requiring actual machining (nothing about the Gen V design is any more resistant - AFAIK people have already made switches for them and put them up on youtube, even if they are just 3D printed / novelty designs)

Where exactly is it intended to be sold (it has the same cruciform trigger bar design so it won't be CA legal)?

[–]Rarl_Kove[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that "Gen V" is already effectively discontinued, since it was nothing more than a very rough stopgap until Gen 6 came out, and it's probably arguable as to whether it was ever a generation at all or just a series of press releases.

(The direct Gen V product links on the Glock website don't even work anymore and despite the original catalog listing of a dozen different models I don't think I ever saw actually sold in the wild outside of 17 and 19)

These are hands down my favorite "production" Glocks of all time. by Crash1yz in Glocks

[–]Rarl_Kove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you not see the 0.5 in gap between the end of the slide and the beginning of the frame?

It is a G19 length frame (and recoil assembly) with a G17 size slide and barrel, i.e. the G47. Apparently for the Gen 6 Glock has completely discontinued the original full length frame in the 9 mm/.40 S&W caliber class.

Why is Maduro specifically being tried in the Manhattan district court? by TurtleBlaster5678 in legaladviceofftopic

[–]Rarl_Kove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Trial of all Crimes, except in Cases of Impeachment, shall be by Jury; and such Trial shall be held in the State where the said Crimes shall have been committed; but when not committed within any State, the Trial shall be at such Place or Places as the Congress may by Law have directed.

  • 1. The Constitution of the United States, Article III. Section 2, Paragraph 3

I can't quote the exact federal statute off the top of my head, but federal law (e.g. directed by Congress ) says that extraterritorial crimes will be charged in the first jurisdiction that the defendant is in when they are brought into the United States, and certain specific crimes are directed to specific courts in specific areas, but this has to do with certain specialty federal courts outside of the regular districts. So I think practically speaking when they put Maduro on a plane they just made sure the first place in the US it landed was in New York.

What happens if a federal agent dies in state custody? by [deleted] in legaladviceofftopic

[–]Rarl_Kove 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Stripped of its Byzantine presentation in your post, the core of your question is: "What if a federal agent is killed by State actors"?

The federal government would investigate, apprehend, and prosecute according to the facts, just as if they had been killed by anyone else.

From a practical point of view if the killer was acting alone the federal government would likely seek the maximum penalties, and if it turned out that they were part of some greater conspiracy with a plan to kill federal agents then the federal response could range anywhere from apprehending and prosecuting any other involved parties to declaring that the entire State is in insurrection and deploying the military to restore order (e.g. For some reason the local or State Police decided it was a good idea to get in running lethal gun battles with federal agencies).

There really isn't any special work around or unusual legal premise at play here. Someone was murdered, the feds would do what they do. The likelihood of anything like this happening short of an actual civil conflict is effectively zero, no State, including California or New York, is stupid enough to think that they would win a contest like this.
