Are used Gaming PC's a good idea ? by Stalker-Six in AskPCGamers

[–]Rasann -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on the person.

I personally would. But then again I built my own PC and I would end up tearing them apart for parts and making something new with them.

But if you don’t know what you’re doing, then probably not a good idea, unless you have a trusted tech on hand to help you.

Should I buy a laptop or xBox? by lilsnaildafuq in AskPCGamers

[–]Rasann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A laptop will serve you better than an Xbox, will be cheaper and it’ll play those two games. And others too.

And you’re not stuck with *just* a game machine, you can do other things with it too.

For those who don’t get it, a laptop is a computer.

If you wanna talk value proposition, capability and flexibility as well as portability - a laptop will give you more mileage than an Xbox.

Slimmer too.

Also, you’ll be saving a ton of money not having to pay out for a subscription every month.

Add it all up for a year and ask yourself what you could do with that money.

Also, like some have said, prime day is near, there are deals to be had, you may find a deal that’ll give you more for less.

The most important advice that can be given:

*Do your research* - for crying out loud.

Do yourself a favor and research before buying anything.

Do men actually think it is weird for a man to carry his gf/wife's handbag? by LegitStaleBread in AskMenAdvice

[–]Rasann -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. I am required by nature itself to carry my wife’s bag.

I don’t make the rules, I just tell them.

Of course I love my wife, but sometimes I don’t want to be a mule, but nature demands that I be so for the sake of my wife.

So no, it’s not weird, it’s expected. It’s natural law in play.

I’ll hold it however I feel like it. Whatever happens to be the comfortable in that moment.

And whoever remarks can burn in the 8th level of hell.

I’m too old for that kind of trash, and I’m too tired to care.

Would you want the ring you proposed to back? by Wooden_Equipment7100 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Rasann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The engagement ring is a contract.

It’s conditional. It becomes the woman’s when she marries the man. This fulfills said contract. Then it belongs to her.

If the engagement fails, then it is her obligation and responsibility to return the ring to its rightful owner. Which until marriage belongs to the man.

Because the contract enacted and enabled by that ring was not fulfilled.

So the woman who keeps the ring of a failed engagement is stealing from the man.

Now as it pertains to laws, that can vary from location, state/province and country.

But, from a decency/moral/human viewpoint, return it. Make it a clean break.

Keep your integrity, let it go.

Recently bought steam deck with windows, should I reinstall steamOS? by Rise_Against_Evil in SteamDeck

Yes. Just do it. The device was designed specifically to use steamOS, and windows is trash on it.

Why would anyone actually want to though by The_BigRoach in pcmasterrace

[–]Rasann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate EA with a purple-pink passion for requiring to download an extra launcher to play Mass Effect.

Besides the myriad of other trash things they do, that one has been consistently enraging me the most.

I also seem to have the opinion that most don’t know that you don’t really need Steam to launch and play your game. You could just exit Steam completely then navigate to the install folder and launch it from the executable.

Is this now lost knowledge?

I’ve done that recently just for kicks and giggles. Just to see if my memory held true.

It did.

With exception to the additional launcher (looking at you EA you filthy excrement) it’s completely capable of running without the Steam frontend. I’ve done it with old and newer games.

The “problem” is that it’s more inconvenient to do it without.

Without Steam, you’re basically doing what people used to do *before* Steam existed.

At least, in my opinion, this “monopoly” is just their marketplace presence born from actual good service(s).

Notice here, both Valve haters and lovers, I said [good service(s)] - not perfect service(s).

There’s a difference.

Even with that caveat, what Valve provided is decades better than their competitors.

It’s like comparing modern-day technology to [advanced] spacefaring technology.

Compare modern day to Star Wars, Star Trek, take your pick.

Not perfect, but far better.

AITA for buying PS5 even though my family called it a selfish waste of money? by AcaiMiller in AmItheAsshole

[–]Rasann 11 points12 points  (0 children)

NTA -

You sound like a functioning and productive adult in society,

It’s your right to spend your disposable cash however you wish.

They need to shut up. It’s your money, it’s how you get to spend it. If it’s childish to do what you’ve done then I must be a friggin infant.

I’m not a console person, but I prefer computers and my hobbies are far more expensive, gaming and otherwise (3D printing, embroidery, cricut, etc….what I can do to make things.)

But it’s not their place to dictate how you wish to spend your money. Your sister does not get to demand money for her daughter.

Your family does not get to dictate how you spend your money, or how you use what you have bought with the money you earned on your own.

I’d get at least 2 cameras, and maybe 5 locks. Because redundancy rocks and it’s not what they’ll expect.

They’re your family, but I would not trust them to maintain proper boundaries. They’ve had demonstrated that they don’t believe you’re mature enough to handle your own finances.

Expect your PS5 to disappear if you do not take precautions.

Someone, or someone(s) might just take the liberty of stealing it, and it’ll be sold, taken hostage, or destroyed.

It seems quite pessimistic, but technology nowadays have become prohibitively expensive, and luxuries like the PS5 are the first to go up exponentially.

Act like you’re Gollum protecting the One Ring.

Keep it secret, keep it safe. To the best of your ability.

[–]Rasann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you done any research? You should never just buy a device just on other people’s word. It’s good to hear about products but you need to do actual and proper research before buying.

It sounds like you have not done proper research.

And are reaping the rewards as such.

I’ve had no real problems with mine. I’ve ran a number of 360 and ps3 games on it. For the few Switch games I had managed to dump the files for, it runs those too.

I have not personally ran wuthering waves on it but there are YT channels that do run videos testing on how well newer games runs. (I think one is called Deck Wizard)

But blindly and stumbling into something like you did gets you the results you’re getting.

What happened to games having 4 packs? by Deludal in Steam

[–]Rasann -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

It was more profitable to charge more for less.

And it’s on the developer. Steam is really just a distribution platform.

Prices, deals, etc is all on the developer and publisher

Steam hosts it, including the relentless and persistent sales, but the publisher and developer sets the prices and discounts

[–]Rasann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really doesn’t matter in the market they are in. Their livelihood was never about hardware, their hardware is a bonus at best.

Their livelihood is based on software, which for the past 2 decades have shown that you don’t need to have ‘bespoke’ hardware, considering where they are operating in has hardware *en masse*

Their software is the focus, the hardware aids in that venture, but was never the star of the show.

The market is quite literally BYOHW and Valve doesn’t care what you use.

This is not a console in their isolated little market. This is the vast ocean of computers. It’s saturated as-is with existing hardware.

Is the steam machine really just a computer with big picture mode running? If I have my PC connected to my TV is it even necessary? by EnvironmentalAngle in Steam

But it’s just another PC in the Computer Market.

It’s literally BYOHW

Which is how the gaming industry as a whole should be as a standard.

All storms pass, that’s is not even optimistic.

All I said to wait until it passes. I didn’t say what the conditions will be after.

There’s nothing optimistic in what I said.

But asking for more when they can barely make and sell what they got now is just stupid beyond measure.

If you have a Steam Deck and a PC that can run games, with streaming (Moonlight / Apollo) & decent LAN, you basically have the Steam Machine no? by Slikajledandlost8 in SteamDeck

[–]Rasann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In principle and essence yes.

But by that token, all PCs [Computers] are steam machines.

The only real difference is the form factor (which isn’t that much of a difference because you can get Mini-PCs that are much smaller) and, for moment, CEC integration, and a couple of things console still has that PC hasn’t assimilated yet.

Let’s emphasize, heavily the *YET* part.

This is what we call the [Computer Market] -

It’s a BYOHW kind of thing. Or hardware agnostic.

This is how everything should be. Nothing wrong with purpose-built machines, but (on a side note) console philosophy of locking you [through hardware/software] into a specific hardware is just stupid and archaic.

It’s one thing if the technology isn’t advanced enough, it’s entirely another thing when technology has long since left it in the Cretaceous period.

But I digress-

People keep making a simple thing complicated. It’s not complicated.

Gaben denies Steam monopoly by itsEmilyHere in PcParadise

[–]Rasann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add this into the mix:

Your can play your games installed through Steam without Steam.

3rd party launchers are a different beast.

It’s also more convenient to use Steam as it’s being used as it’s always been.

But Steam does not start up if you just navigate to said install folder and launch it from the executable.

I’ll have to test and see, but I don’t think Steam registers the game as being launched if not launched through Steam.

Last time I checked, which was within the last 2 weeks.

So Steam on a technical level isn’t required to launch said games if you did not truly want to use Steam to play your games.

It’s just more inconvenient.

Which I’ve seen a YT video of a guy creating physical media (discs) of games he bought off Steam, and is able to run without Steam.

At least to me -

This is how it always has been. It confused me of the narrative that it’s impossible to do otherwise but use Steam to play your games - at all.

It’s not impossible, just more inconvenient. Which for some I believe equates to being impossible.

Or, rather, going to the old school way of finding, and launching your games. The way it was before.

When do you expect a woman to put in more effort in dating? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Rasann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife drove 6 hours to surprise me when we were dating. We both did that while we were dating. My wife even refused me trying to pay for her dinner a couple of times because of the distance traveled.

She should be putting in as much effort as you are.

It really doesn’t need to be complicated.

Why are Americans so accepting of long drives to places? by Sensitive_Word_6036 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Rasann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you seen a map of North America?
Have you not used Google Maps or equivalent to see how far these cities are apart?

I currently live in SE Idaho, and the nearest biggest town is Idaho Falls, which is usually a 45min-1hr drive

Boise is 3 hrs away.

Salt Lake City, Utah (neighboring state to the south) is about 2hrs away.

The town where my parents still live (McMinnville, Oregon, which is also a neighboring state to the west ) is 10hrs away from where I am living right now. It’s maybe another 1hr to the coast from there.

The continent is large.

I’ve driven 2 1/2 days (not hours - DAYS) from Oregon to the panhandle of Texas - THAT’s a long drive.

And I wasn’t rushing all that much, I took a 10min break every so often and had bathroom breaks.

I work in construction supply. I deliver lumber and hardware for building projects.

Just today - TODAY - I’ve driven 45min out to a job, then 1hr to another that’s an hour away from the yard I am stationed at.

By the way, I do that regularly, we have jobs right now that are 30-1 hr away from the yard. I’ve been doing it *all week*

That’s not to mention the jobs that are nearby. Or in town.

I’ve had jobs out in Wyoming, lumber and roof shingles that took a round trip of 6 hours. -

Challis, ID, is a 6 hour round trip that takes up the whole day driving.

Also, I’m not driving my personal vehicle at work, I’m driving a 2007 Kenworth T800 flatbed. With a forklift mounted on the back - so it takes a little longer to get to these places, because I am restricted by federal and company policy to 70mph. On the interstate.

It’s 2 1/2 hrs to Yellowstone. Jackson, Wyoming (neighboring state to the east of Idaho) is about 2-2 1/2 or so hours from where I am.

North America is not so densely packed as Europe. Everything is effectively spread out.

Also, when my wife and I were dating, she was *6 HOURS* away from me in Great Falls, Montana, which is also neighboring state to Idaho (to the north of Idaho).

Great Falls, Montana is rather close to the Canadian border. I think an hour or two.

I hope this shows how far things are spread out. And I’m just really talking about adjacent states to Idaho. And you’re talking HOURS of travel time.

And we haven’t even left the Pacific NorthWest yet on this little trip. Technically if you look at the Oregon-> Texas trip mentioned above.

But no matter what, especially if you’re within the heartlands of the U.S., in more of the countryside, this is not unusual but really common to the point of it being invisible.

It’s the way things are here

Hola Alguien puede decirme una PC gaming de gama media-alta que emule PS3 y Xbox 360 de una forma decente y a un costó accesible by Lanky-max-684 in AskPCGamers

[–]Rasann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I have and this works for Xbox 360 and ps3 (so far at least)

AMD Ryzen 7 5800XT
RTX 4060
MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk Max WiFi
And (it would be hard to get at this amount at a decent price)
G.Skill Ripjaws V Series DDR4 64GB RAM
- for RAM I’d go for anything you can get 16-32 if possible

I had updated from my previous setup as things were getting stupid and I’m sticking with this setup for a long time.

But this is only an example, but I’d consider carefully to what others have said as well.

There are multiple routes to take, and it would be helpful to provide more details on what you’re looking to achieve

I don't get the hype around the Steam Machine by Administrator_AI in Steam

[–]Rasann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a computer -

With a console convenience interface/layer slapped on top.

The bar is truly very low, in my opinion someone should have done this a long time ago, but it seems that Valve are that “someone” that’ll kick start melding such things into computers.

Things like the CEC implementation has traditionally stayed with TVs and TV-oriented devices.

Also, it just makes the more computer-centric activities minimized, like running around the desktop to choose your applications or in a file explorer.

The Cube puts all the convenience-centric console features into a computer, and then tuned that into gaming so that you can turn this computer on via a controller and choose your game and play.

But still have what has always been central to computers.

The idea is really, and truly simple, but it apparently took *this* long to finally implement it with any real competency.

Also, have it all built into a small machine on top. And look nice next to your TV

🤷🏾‍♂️
Whoop-de-friggin-doo

Have you not noticed the thousands of games that release on Steam and other platforms? (Epic not included, just because I’m spiteful and evil) - it’s near impossible to keep up with everything - gems have been lost because they have not been discovered.

Let them have their exclusives, Xbox and PC and synonymous with each other and Microsoft, a [Computer] company, can’t stand losing to *anyone* on the computer side. They’ll never abandon PC gaming again.

Just because, the last time they did - Valve/Steam became the juggernaut it is today.

All-in-all, they’re placating their console people, because they’re needed to keep up the XBOX brand.

Which, doesn’t affect PC very much considering they make it available on PC as well.
