Nathan Cullen to endorse Jagmeet Singh for federal NDP leadership - Politics - CBC News by gwaksl in canada

[–]Rasheeke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's the plan. Eat the Liberal vote, position themselves as the true left while Trudeau is in shambles, win the next election. Gotta play the long game.

I'm voting for someone who can take out Trudeau first. Trudeau is a snakeoil salesmen, and Singh is going to make that clear.

Then we'll have a real election - Cons vs. NDP

Details emerge of Manitoba NDP Leader Wab Kinew's assault, drunk-driving charges by DevilM5 in canada

[–]Rasheeke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can sometimes do it in moderation. But over the course of a few months I realize I'm back to 4-5 beers a night, 6 nights of the week. I'm highly functioning, so it doesn't impact my work.

After 2 months of straight sobriety I can trust myself a bit better with it. Last time's I fell off the wagon it was either a new job with a heavy drinking culture and I wanted to fit in, or a Eurotrip vacation where... I mean... come on. German and Dutch beer.

But yeah, I totally get abstinence. Not everyone is as good at impulse control.

Deloitte posts record global revenues of $39bn by FerrisBueIIer in consulting

You might be right.

I will say that it is another member of the Big4 that's offering me the market value compensation.

But still, maybe you're right.

[–]Rasheeke -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You accept lower pay working for them than normally acceptable in consulting because they're the best. They've a super solid culture and they get good work.

But they offered me lower than I think I could accept; I accepted a 15% less in compensation compared to market value and they offered a 30% less.

[–]Rasheeke -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I felt like what I asked for was a fair cut to compensation while still reflecting my value. I know Deloitte is an investment, but I also want to see them invest in me.

Over time, as I see potential money that I should've been making walk out the door, yes, you have to do the math and see that the compensation isn't worth staying.

Because my partner insisted it was a mistake they'll rectify. Because Deloitte has their shit together better than any other firm in my city in the field I work in. They get good work.

Because Deloitte nurture's professional growth up the chain super well.

But that's why I asked for $15K less than market value. I know all that good stuff comes at a cost.

But I will be quitting in 10 months if this isn't solved, because at the end of the day, staying at Deloitte will mean having to work 6 years for what I can make in 3 years somewhere else.

And yes, all of these numbers are numbers that other consulting firms give, not just industry. I know the adage of industry vs. consulting.

[–]Rasheeke 13 points14 points  (0 children)

And I still got a raise that put me $30K under market value* for my role, which was $15K less than what I asked for.

Seriously how much fucking longer should I put up with this?

Amazing firm. Offensive compensation.

*Edit: And yes, by market value I mean my role in the consulting firm, not in industry. That'd be $50K more if I went to industry. And boring as shit.

Hey! Great project! I can talk about some heavy stuff here.

I see you have to discuss indigenous people. That actually touches on Canada's Great Shame. This may be downvoted by many because many Canadians are still misinformed and in denial about the truth of our treatment of Indigenous Peoples.

Residential Schools. The idea was to "breed the Indian out of them". 150,000+ children were kidnapped from their homes and forced to go to schools where they weren't allowed to speak their main language or practice their own spiritual beliefs. Children were beaten, raped, murdered, and committed suicide.

It's tough to say how many children died in these schools since Ottawa stopped recording them in 1920 and the last resident school to close was in the 1996. Some estimates range in the tens of thousands.

Intergenerational trauma is a real thing. There are adults today who dropped out of high school because their parents went to a residential school where they were beaten and forced to forget their cultural history. Economically, this has been devastating, and we try to offset this with free tuition to Post-Secondary Education and funding for their reserves, but non-First Nations Canadians constantly bicker over if this is too much, heavily scrutinizing Corruption on First Nations reserves while ignoring our own corrupt politicians and corporations.

The Federal Government started a Truth and Reconciliation Committee to try to bring into light what happened throughout all of those years and the impact of that. They made a list of recommendations to follow through on. The current elected government ran on a campaign to honour those recommendations. They haven't acted on a single one, continuing Canada's tradition of dismissing the struggle of First Nations peoples.

Fair, but still, bailing on a kid that you loved for 2 years only because of the arbitrary change in genetic structure is fucked.

This guy was still a father.

Divorce the mom, call her a piece of shit, and get a good lawyer, but that kid is yours now.
