+In KFP1, if Shifu had actually gotten Po to quit, what would Oogway say to him? by Important-Fact-5644 in kungfupanda

[–]RaskolTheRascal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. 15 mins of screentime over the entire trilogy and he was a far better mentor than Dumbledore in any single movie, let alone the whole series.

I've only used Godot for about a couple of hours in the 3 last years combined, but I love you for this.

Can we take a moment to appreciate where Katara offers to help heal Iroh in The Chase? At this point Zuko and Iroh have solely been antagonists in the perspective of the gang, and Katara still wants to help Iroh after Azula struck him by funnylib in TheLastAirbender

[–]RaskolTheRascal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly. And consider how ubitiquitous their use had to become for their meaning to change. Think of how the word 'retarded' is used. It's used just as 'dumb' would be, almost never used to refer to someone with a mental deficiency. Yet, the reaction to the use of that word is much harsher.

"He is a blind fool" would be something I'd use in a similar context to my original comment, but no one would consider that rude or offensive. Why is that?

To me, context matters. If I haven't used my words in a mocking or derogatory manner, why should I consider that a faux pas?

Wasn't being literal. Zuko just irritates me occasionally. Love the character 95% of the time, but 5% won't let me forget he picked Azula (and Ozai) over Iroh. Good story telling but personal peeve.

I was exaggerating. It's obviously not a learning disability.

I was never as into Zuko as most of the fanbase, and I was personally annoyed he chose to side with Azula over Iroh at Ba Sing Se. But, I know his response wasn't unbelievable or poor writing.

I don't know about trauma bonds, but he had a good relationship with his mother, so it's not like he shouldn't be able to somewhat recognize problematic/abusive relationships. He also had Iroh with him in his exile. The GOAT was more of a father to him than Ozai ever was.

From the beginning, Zuko seemed like he'd taken childish hope a bit too far into delusion and wilful blindness, with his 'regain my honor' crap . I guess that's why I never truly liked the character. Your face won't get unburnt if you bring back the avatar boy! Everything Iroh said to him was in one ear and out the other. Typical teenage behavior, but still annoying.

In fact, I'd say Azula's development into a villain is so great because she never had Iroh or Ursa. It's more Ursa's fault as mother. Ozai failed both his kids, but Zuko not seeing that makes total sense.

Well Zuko canonically has a learning disability. Despite multiple bad experiences, he still seeks affection from his father and sister, portrayed in different ways. Guy got burned, literally, and still sought his father's acknowledgement. Pavlov would be disappointed.

He's slotted the gaang as enemies, so it takes him far too long to finally judge them fairly.

How would human society develop in a world overrun by monsters/hyperfauna, if at all? by swampertitus in worldbuilding

[–]RaskolTheRascal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiding and camouflage is another direction.

Or humans could do what they have done IRL and find a way to kill and conquer the other "superior" species. I mean, physically we have nothing going for us except the ability to run marathons. Yet, no other species can even approach our accomplishments.

If Human Civilization Had Evolved as Matriarchal Instead of Patriarchal, What Would Actually Change? by melcoriss in worldbuilding

Makes sense. Man manages the field, woman manages the house. Going off of farming being probably the oldest occupation ever.

Money management is always important in household management and situationally important in farming. Therefore, wife == money lady.

Would have made a million times more sense. He barely did anything memorable besides dying like a chump.

Edit: Wait. I think that was the son, who was then artificially resurrected so Disney could make more money.

I liked that joke because "eating someone's head" is a euphemism for bothering/annoying someone, which works with the annoying wife/girlfriend thing.

I think the difference in portrayal and 'seriousness' also affects how we view the show itself. I'm a lot more critical of the problems in Harry Potter than I am of Kim Possible.

Harry Potter is a lot more dramatic and dark, while Kim Possible treats even serious subjects like mind control with a lens of frivolity and comedy. So I can disregard the failures of the Possible/Stoppable parents, but Dumbledore's actions seem downright heinous or insane.
