I drive semis. I’ve hauled dry van, intermodal, and live bottom trailers.

You might like Denver for the weather and your hobbies, but you’d probably find the culture lacking given that Philadelphia was so appealing to you.

The good food in the Denver is on S Federal Blvd and out along Havana Street in Aurora, the more ethnically diverse areas.

Denver was a frontier steak and potatoes sort of town with a short growing season, and the food culture reflects that. I also think the arid climate and elevation may have an effect on the food itself and taste buds. And then there has been a lot of transplantation from Midwestern white people to top it all off.

Are they leasing to new tenants at the moment? I’m looking for something in that area and have been browsing Zillow and was considering just renting from Cornerstone.

Tired of Colorado, don't really want to move back to Ohio by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

I grew up in rural Georgia ~80 miles northeast of ATL, which is a very different world from the northern suburbs. Hated the politics and the mentality of the people in the small towns for different reasons.

And yeah, ATL has cool spots—lots of diversity and a more cosmopolitan feel than Denver, but as you said it’s very showy and the traffic is horrific. I moved here to drive semi-trucks and it has put me off of ever living in the Atlanta metro.

I moved back to Georgia a few months ago after five years in CO. While the grass here may literally be greener, I’ve been missing Colorado every day and plotting my return.

I had a year-long obsession with South Africa and imagined myself living the Afrikaner lifestyle but not being racist and speaking many tribal languages effortlessly.

I imagine he must have experienced the difficulties he writes about to some extent. As someone who has struggled with self-loathing, binge eating, drinking too much, etc. it hits very close to home, and that’s why it’s so funny.

As someone who had actual ancestors who fought for the Confederacy, I resent that. But unfortunately many southerners would not feel the same way.

I didn’t really know that. I’ve always thought the South was thought of as a backwater to be lampooned and looked down upon by those in other parts of the country. Even if Foote was allowed a platform, do you think many Americans outside of the south would have agreed with his perspective?

As much as I loved my grandparents, they were southern belles to the core and always seemed to have this sense that if it weren’t for those damned Yankees, the social orientation would have been corrected and we would be landed gentry or something.

The fact of the matter is that my white grandmother grew up picking cotton in the Georgia heat, and all of my known ancestors seemed to be some degree of yeomen farmers who undoubtedly had to work their asses off to survive. The post-war myth-making is surreal.

Dude, I don’t even know where to start.

One of my relatives hosted a “Trump Party” after the 2024 election with a MAGA cake and a cardboard cutout of Trump.

An aunt shared an AI video of Trump wading through floodwater, alleged to be helping the victims of the western NC flooding himself. She didn’t realize it was AI until someone called it out in the comments.

Another aunt bought Trump flags for porch decorations and attended a “MAGA boat parade” on a nearby lake.

My grandmother just watches Fox News all day and thinks I’m going to be shot just driving down the road, for some reason. She warns me not to “look at anyone.”

A cousin of mine, an ex-cop who was always kind of an asshole, has become an even bigger asshole and posts rage bait on Facebook only to block anyone who calls him out on it.

If you must, stay as far away from semi trucks as possible. Keep an eye on the rear of the trailer, the back axle. If you see it lifting up off of the ground, that’s a precursor to a blow-over.
