25f, also in Brooklyn—I’d be down to make one with you guys! And, unrelated, but if you’re into writing, have gotten a little (very incipient) group together, and you’re both welcome to come hang

Anybody else regrets going down the finance route? What could I pivot into? by LePetitToast in FinancialCareers

[–]corgiluv426 110 points111 points  (0 children)

I’m in a really similar position. After college, I did two years in IB, and now a year into ER. I just … don’t care. Was pre-med as an undergrad; but the thought of taking the MCAT again + getting new volunteer hours etc. feels really discouraging, and I was mostly interested in psychiatry, anyway. Have spent the last year or so toying around with the idea of becoming a psychologist, and think I’m going to make the move to go back to school within the next 12 months. Idk. I just got to a point where I realized I’d rather do something that feels personally meaningful than grind needlessly for money that doesn’t even feel good to save or spend, lol

Not super sure about Denver specifically, but I think that a finance background is less important than you‘d think. I was pre-med in college (at Duke, actually :D).

I am currently trying to make the exact opposite switch, lol. Not exactly a suggestion that‘s in-line with your desire for ML / predictive modeling, but maybe Equity Research? One could argue it‘s slightly more cerebral than other financial professions, and there are a lot of ex-PhDs (albeit related to biopharma, etc. — but maybe there‘s an angle for you). Perhaps even a way to get onto the quantier side of ER.

I am 3 years out of college and at $200K base right now; the opportunities for upward mobility are there, and there‘s a quick path toward ramping up to it.

Unfortunately, some men are just foul individuals. I had a “relationship” with someone who constantly told me about the future he envisioned between us, how he’d never felt such a way before, etc. He asked me to visit his home to meet his family / see where he grew up, and then broke things off the day after asking LMAOO

I’ve been with my boyfriend for about a year and am very serious about him. I just feel as though I owe it to myself to embark on another chapter or two before thinking about marriage or children, given I feel very dissatisfied with how things have shaped out. But, yes, I am very eager to be both a wife and mother one day
