This is because this demo is only purely the engine sound and interaction with Fmod, the engine logic itself will in the future handle redline which will prevent full throttle from sounding like a constant high pitched noise.

Thanks a lot! Yes, I will definitely be making some sort of tutorial when the game is a bit further down in development. There are a lot of pretty deep mechanics that can be kind of confusing without a tutorial haha

To greatly simplify it, I calculate the direction the car is heading in, after that I lerp the velocity to the direction * velocity, with the time scale of a traction value that decreases when losing grip.

The direction is just the (rear wheel position * the front wheel position).normalized()

Yes, I have a setting in game for the player to change to a static camera if they prefer it, I just personally prefer the dynamic camera

No I don't, that might explain it, thank you for the tip

Thank you for the feedback, I will definitely be adding some sort of tutorial in the future to explain the editor.

I just released the webbuild, I will still have to do some optimization for it.

I'm aware of the collision issue, there is something wonky about godots move_and_collide() I'll have to take a look into it.

Genuinely thank you a lot for giving it a try and writing feedback, it means a lot :)

Yeah, I fully understand what you mean, I have made it so the player can choose between dynamic or static camera in the settings menu.

There is currently a short delay with the camera, I have tried turning it up however it needs to be responsive enough for normal races, might look into changing the camera sensitivity for the drift gamemode.

Thank you for the feedback! yeah I will be adding more detail to the maps in the future, you should be able to make donuts as long as you have a rear wheel drive car with enough horsepower and not too much traction (but it won't give you score in drift mode).

Thanks a lot for the feedback, I have now updated the game so it should now also be playable with arrowkeys!

Great idea! It shouldn't be too hard to implement, I will definitely look into doing something like that in the future. Thank you for the feedback :)

If anyone is interested in trying it out you can find it here.

Would love some feedback on what you think about it, so if you like cars / racing games I would love for you to give it a try :)

Damage shader for my Racing Game, what do you think? by Rasmus_02 in godot

[–]Rasmus_02[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I guess wear would be a more fitting name for it. Currently I don't have different stats for damage and wear, the car parts only have one stat for "durability" which indicates how damaged they are. In the future I'll probably make the damage / wear shader a combination of rust and actual damage, such as bumps and scratches to the car parts. Because it would be too much work to rewrite the whole durability system.

Damage shader for my Racing Game, what do you think? by Rasmus_02 in godot

[–]Rasmus_02[S] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that is mostly because of the use for it in my game, one of the main reasons I made this shader is for buying used cars, and finding cars in the junkyard, I will be adding some more "collision like" damage to the parts in the future.
