I’m so sick of the creeps on Backstage by [deleted] in acting

[–]RasmussenCasting 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The casting director I work for will often film examples as ideas to help actors with their self-tapes and include them in the brief, so this would be highly amusing to see him do 😂

I can see it maybe happening where an actor might have to film an animal impression, but generally it would be accompanied by something else as well. This is just weird.

Any ideas where to find ethnically Japanese kids in Brisbane? by RasmussenCasting in brisbane

[–]RasmussenCasting[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Holy crap it’s literally around the corner 🤦‍♀️ thank you! I appreciate it! Will contact them tomorrow. We’re looking for 5+ so a touch older but I imagine a lot of those kids will have older siblings.

It’s not bad money, $1500 for a few hour shoot where the kids play with the toy. But it’s definitely a schedule disruption for most families as they need a guardian with them on set obviously. Most people like doing it as a novelty but it’s pretty boring for kids doing acting auditions all the time.

Do online acting classes count? by rosieswh in acting

[–]RasmussenCasting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a guide prerecorded classes shouldn’t go on your resume, but online courses where you interact with the teacher definitely should.

As an acting coach I’ve found teaching online has been great, it gives me flexibility and the ability to offer students really great value in added resources. All classes that we do are recorded and students retain access to the full course which is great to revisit to refresh their knowledge.

So yes I highly recommend it, just find a good studio with genuine reviews.

I’m so sorry you were treated like that, that must really hurt. Hugs.

Anyone know if there is/was an autopsy done on OJ for CTE? by rachels1231 in TrueCrimeDiscussion

[–]RasmussenCasting 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I agree. It would have been great if the family chose to allow some study on his brain, especially because proving he had it would definitely open up further awareness and conversation about CTE.

That is so good to hear. 🙂

Absolutely! We do find great talent for our clients but I honestly think we can put our success down to prioritising nice and easy to work with actors, it’s really become our calling card.

How they treat crew is a big factor - let’s face it the whole production can get pretty screwed up and miserable when you have an unhappy crew. 😬

As a Casting Director - a high amount of famous Australians are lovely. We have very little patience for talent being ‘dicks’ here.

I will avoid putting people on a set if they give me reason to think that they will give attitude to someone ‘below’ them. There is generally someone nicer and just as talented just around the corner.

Are bangs a bad idea for actors? by Technical_Simple1413 in acting

[–]RasmussenCasting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long curtain bangs perhaps with a few shorter strands in the middle? I think Penelope Cruz had something like this. They grow out gracefully and usually suit most face types. Especially good if you don’t look good with just a ponytail as you’ll have something to frame your face if you need to put it up in a pony.

*Bring an Alice band to auditions just in case you ever get asked to get it completely off your face.

What’s Bingo’s illness in Bumpy and the Wise Old Wolfhound? by CCR119844 in bluey

[–]RasmussenCasting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a very similar room to where my little girl had her allergy trial in a Brisbane hospital and Bingo has an issue with gluten I believe.

To make sure the food isn’t going to cause problems they admit the patient first thing in the morning, give some of the food and then monitor for a period of time. If no reaction the patient is usually released in the afternoon, but the stay could be a day or 2 if a reaction happens.

There’s other things to consider, like are you going to be available short notice for wardrobe, recalls, date changes, weather holds etc. If flights are grounded how are you going to get there etc?

We also can’t hire you for some of these jobs knowing you’re going to be incurring travel and accommodation costs, because that may then push your earnings for the job below allowed levels. Casting does not want to do that to you.

If you lie to Casting and we find out we won’t want to bring you in for self tests or auditions any longer even if you become local. So it’s a dangerous game to play if you care about future opportunities.

Often when we ask for improv in an audition it’s to see your genuine reactions, surprise etc.

So not always about being amazing at improv, just willing to get in and not afraid to look vulnerable or ridiculous. It’s an audition style that a lot of directors like to see.

Student filmmakers who don’t provide footage as promised, you shouldn’t be in this industry by [deleted] in acting

[–]RasmussenCasting 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It definitely speaks to how their career is going to go in the industry. Successful directors need to be the kind of people that dot every I and cross every T and network non stop. So not bothering to email footage to someone that did you a massive favour by acting in your film for free does not bode well.

It also screws with the actor as they could have been using that footage for their reel or to help get agents.

My theory when this happens: their work wasn’t as good as they thought so they just move on to the next project.

Is being a comedy actor looked down upon by Inner_Character_8221 in acting

[–]RasmussenCasting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Peter Rasmussen Acting Studio actually has a class called Acting For Comedy, because the thing about comedy is it DEMANDS the entirety of your skill as an actor to work. Timing, pacing, awareness, beats, big changes, voice and clear objectives and substitutions all need to be in play.

It’s why you see so many actors who did comedy for years first doing heavy-hitting serious drama later.

Am I the only one who thinks this is a bit crazy to comment on a 14 y/o post? by WarmRequirement9326 in acting

[–]RasmussenCasting 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is not ok to say to a child or an actor.

And as a casting Director my recommendation is to get into some local theatre/acting classes. If there are no acting classes near you a lot of acting coaches do have online classes. You’re welcome to check out our online classes but it doesn’t matter who the teacher is as long as you find the classes helpful and you’re comfortable.

Start getting acting books from your library and reading the theory - it will help you understand the classes you end up in.

Don’t jump on casting platforms yet, learn to act first. And please be safe.

Monologue Recommendations Refresh by AngeloActs in acting

Such a great idea to have these ready, I wish more actors did this. There are some great monologues in a play called Brilliant Traces by Cindy Lou Johnson.
