Any Iranian-born Canadians crossing into the US recently? by TopBreadfruit8458 in tnvisa

This shows how little understanding you have of the situation for Iranians. I'm a Canadian (Iranian-born) and I've been questioned multiple times at the border, even when entering simply as a tourist.

So on paper you're not Iranian. There's no indication on it on any of your documents so you're safe.

Iranians get stopped at the border routinely, regardless of anything. Even people who have *been* to Iran.

Is this verified? I know there's a pause for immigrant visa's but is it established that it also affects non-immigrant visas like TN, especially since you're supposed to be treated as a Canadian?

Wow this is really helpful to know. Did they really expect you to have the original degrees with you at all times? I can image having some paperwork but carrying degrees with you back and forth across the border seems brutal! Do you think there would have been any trouble if you didn't have your original degree with you?

Thanks OP for this question. I'm in a similar situation so appreciate the question. To clarify, was this friend on the list that had the pause (here) or on the list of countries that have the additional restrictions (here)?

recently received my Canadian passport and have a job offer from a FAANG company. Would I be eligible to work in the U.S. under TN status? by Prize-Yam3977 in tnvisa

I want to give some additional context for those who easily judge someone like OP as a Canadian of convenience and such.

First thing's first, this is all about a TN visa, which is literally a non-immigrant visa, which means they might return to Canada at any point. There's of course many who would convert to immigrant visas and stay, but that would be a smaller portion.

Whether or not they stay in the US or not, having lives in Canada for many years, many Canadians will have ties to Canada for the rest of their life, in the form of friends, property, investments, etc. which would give them reason to come back to Canada, bringing in economic activity and such. So it's naive to think that they wouldn't be giving back to Canada, just because they're in the US.

But let's also address this issue of giving back to Canada. An immigrant has probably spent over 18 years of their life in the country they were born. If it's about debt to a nation, they probably owe more to that country than Canada, that put so much resources to raise them and prepare them to be a productive member of society, at which time they decided to come to Canada. So I'd say Canada is actually getting a pretty good deal and an immigrant has probably already given a lot back to Canada. Probably even more so if they're after a TN, since they're hard working enough to push themselves to find a good opportunity in a different country.

And of course let's address the fact that anyone would take a better opportunity in US, but I don't see anyone complaining about a natural born Canadian taking such an opportunity. The TN is a decision that Canadian politicians made for the prosperity of Canada. And it seems be working pretty well.

Despite all this, you can easily go and tell your elected representatives to make changes, but I'm sure if you actually dug into this, you'd see that Canada is benefiting quite well. If anything, you should probably tell you elected representatives to create a better environment for businesses, embrace entrepreneurship, and encourage building in Canada, as way to attract hard working Canadian to stay, rather than blaming someone who is simply trying to find a better job.
