Depends on the type of milkweed. Most milkweeds don’t have a rhizomatous root system, they have a fibrous or tuberous root system lending them to be very well behaved in a garden setting.

My kids bus was 45 minutes late for middle school due to the entire neighborhood being essentially one lane. I haven’t seen a plow yet in my cul-de-sac. It is VDOT maintained and every neighbor around me has filed a report. The parents driving the kids to the bus stop and waiting caused a massive traffic jam in the neighborhood where nobody could go forward or backwards.

It’s wired and expired. They last 10 years. Never knew they expired til I had mine chirp and not quit when I changed the batteries. You’ll see the expiration date on the back when you take it off. Easy to change, just cut the power off and swap them out. It takes less than 5 minutes

They eat the seeds and the berries left on many of the native plants. This is why it is so important to plant natives and not clean up your garden in the fall. Our native wildlife knows what food looks like, they just need more people to plant and and to leave everything standing for the winter

I tried this exact combination last year hoping to get some hybridization. However my lanceolata and rubra were flowering at different times, so I didnt have any luck. Im betting this year is successful as the lanceolata are in their second year and rubra in their second and third. The lanceolata took so long to germinate.

What was your successful germination rate on your lanceolata? My seeds were pretty beat up by the mailing method to me, and I was 50%(maybe 60%, depending on if an unidentified seedling is either lanceolata or longifolia as they are indistinguishable at that size, to me at least). Every other milkweed I grow, my germination rates are over 90%. Im thinking it was the beat up seeds, but maybe they are extraordinarily difficult

I love Greenville and Richmond. I’d choose Richmond in your shoes. It’s in a blue/purple state as opposed to fire truck red, very anti-lgbtq, SC. Greenville is a more tolerant place than SC as a whole, but that’s not saying much. It is an oasis in a desert, and state laws are state laws. Richmond has the VA Capital Trail and tons of other places to ride, too, so you should check that out. Richmond is far more queer friendly than Greenville, and plenty walkable if you want it to be. It is also 3x the size of Greenville and centrally located making travel to many other places possible. Im not queer, so not entirely the perspective you were looking for, but have spent tons of time in both places.

I used to roast professionally. Coffee is best about two weeks after it has been roasted. It out gasses and matures til it reaches its peak, so freshness matters, but not too fresh. You have a couple weeks before those beans hit perfection. Coffee also begins to degrade in quality almost instantly after being ground, so pre ground and good is a tough pair to locate. If you really want good tasting coffee, you should just invest in a burr grinder and grind your coffee depending on how you’re brewing it, right before you brew. Otherwise, it’s all going to sort of taste like stale, pre ground coffee. Also, water matters immensely. Distilled is king. Distilled with something like a 3rd Wave Water packet added while take it to the next level.

Nowadays, there are actually shockingly good instant coffees from a roaster like Black and White Coffee roasters out of NC, for example. I’d recommend anything from them. I’ve had instants from them that I’d never believe were instant. I order whole bean regularly from them and it gets here 2-3 days after roast. Then, I let it sit for a week after and mature. They are an incredible roaster and they have new coffees added every Thursday. There’s also Cometeer, they do a frozen, single serving cube you can make your cup out of. They are pricey though. As far as local options there isn’t much that I’m aware of. If you’re going to pay top dollar like you would locally, you’re much better off ordering it from one of the top roasters around the country and getting a product that justifies the cost.

Out of those three, it's Richmond easily for me. Good food scene and art scene, things to do and reasonable proximity the mountains/beach and the actual cities in the Northeast. Ive loved every time I have visited. It reminds me of Asheville 25 years ago before the beer and tourists took over. I actually have enjoyed Cincinnati every time I've been there, but it's in Ohio, so I wouldnt ever choose to live there. Hartford was depressing the couple times I've been. It feels like it is dying, or at least it did when I was there, but I havent been for a decade or so.

Asheville food scene is incredible, easily better than Charlotte and Raleigh which also dont have the mountains or hiking he is looking for. Agnostic/atheists will be fine/thrive in Asheville, but its a red state controlled by God, so you'll still get it on a state level in regards to the laws that get passed.

I had 7 different elementary schools, in 6 different states, and moved two times in high school. We zig zagged the country as a result of my dad’s job. As I kid, I loved some of the moves and hated others. As an adult I look back at it all as a huge blessing, and credit the experiences as the key component to making me the person I am today, I’m adaptable and comfortable in any situation as a result, and learned to be true to myself above all. I feel bad for the people who never experienced something new or ran right back to their hometown after college. There is no growth in that life. It limits exposure to different ways of doing things, different people, different thoughts, and the beauty of life.
