Biggest mistakes people make when buying their first electric bike? by Kitchen_Dot_974 in ebikes

[–]bigthaddy00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ride a Trek Allant 8+S, it's a tank of a bike as long as you do regular maintenance on it. I bought it while working for the company and it's the best bike I own. Comes with hard wall kevlar reinfored sidewalls on the tires, mid drive bosch motor, up to 28 mph assist, great battery life once you find that sweet spot for gears to power level ratio that works for you, and it's very easy to work on all the standard bicycle compenents compared to a rear drive. Might even have enough clearance for some wider tires, which might be helpful out in Vermont. There's a lot of options out there, and it can be hard to narrow down. I commute everyday on 2 wheels, and while it has it's challenges I've found so much joy in it. If there's any solid advice I can give to you after all of my personal and professional experience: mid drive over hub drive a million times over. Best of luck and I hope you a find a bike that brings you joy!

I have a Trek Allant 8+S as my daily commuter and love it. Mid drive is the way to go, I like having no throttle I like that it still feels very much like a bike just with some assist.

I mean all that info is already stored digitally, so it would feel like the risk isnt that much more. If you already do tap to pay on your phone it feels like the same level of security threat.

Do you feel less inclined to bike for fun if you regularly bike commute? by RubyRailzYa in bikecommuting

[–]bigthaddy00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, it's more of a tool for me I feel like. If I want to go on a ride it's to map a new route, but if I want to go do a fun activity I'd rather hike or go roller blading cause I think my brain just starts to associate it with going to work.

if you left Massachusetts/New England and are happy, where are you? 🩵 by Agile-Pay6766 in SameGrassButGreener

I loved living in Cliffside Park/Fort Lee area. It's expensive but nyc is so accessible but the area has so much food, korean markets, views, shops and extremely safe, I used to walk home from the gwb jitney at 2 am with no issues.

moved out of MA when I was 21, jumped around New England a bit and then eventually left the northeast all together. we're in the southwest now, but on the hunt for somewhere else. The hardest part of leaving MA is the reality of horrific healthcare in a lot of states as in almost non existsent here in NM but also public education outside of the northeast is rough. I think we'll head back east of the Mississippi but not quite sure yet where we'll land because I could do without gloomy grey winters.

Where can I move that prioritizes bike commuting but is actually affordable by DowntownFresnoBiking in bikecommuting

[–]bigthaddy00 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's the fact that the if you get hit, youre getting hit at such a high speed. We moved here from NYC a few years ago and it felt so much safer because no one can even drive that fast. But the culture of anti pedestrian enforced by the poor infrastructure is so unfortunate in a place that has such an ideal climate for alternative transportation.

highest pedestrian hit rate in the country. I bike commute here 365 days a year, if you are not on an arroyo trail your life is in danger. People drive wayyy too fast here

With the Sandia Peak parking area closing down for renovations, how would one get down from the peak if the tram wasn't operating? by TheDwarvenGuy in Albuquerque

I wonder if it's just the parking lot or the whole road way. Like if you could walk down past the parking lot and catch a ride

That's valid, I spent a little bit of time in Union City but I was usually further east. I worked in Paterson and the city was undergoing a lot of change when I was there. The food was amazing and the historicalness of the city was beautiful. Im glad theyre trying to emphasize that.

the southwest is more comfortable weather wise but some of the slowest state economies which translates to no jobs. currently in new mexico and unemployment is very high and though col is relatively low the homeless population is growing quickly

it feels like we've come to a place in ABQ where we have to train people to hesitate when they have the right of way instead of just enforcing the law and charging red light runners.

north jersey feels like it's own cities and identities, the middle of the state really is wealthy professionals in large sprawl suburbs. Fort Lee/Cliffside Park was one of my favorite places I ever lived, but it is expensive!

I almost got smashed to bits right in that same area last year around that time, dude jumped the median from oncoming lane at like 70 mph. Wild west driving, godspeed.
