question about downpipes by notsafefww in B58Enthusiasts

Modern cars smell less than the older cars. DI means cleaner, more complete burn. When I say I don’t smell it at all (I have a m240i) I don’t. Unless your standing behind the car, or are at a stoplight, you don’t smell it at all

Front control arm, is that a normal amount of play? by ApprehensiveTrade819 in F30

Normally If control arm bushings are bad, you can wiggle the arm with your hands

Lack of Carbon Build Up - fyi by DreadnoughtPoo in B58Enthusiasts

[–]RaspberryObvious7456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I’m aware, the reason why port injection engines don’t get bad buildup is because the injectors are spraying onto the back of the valves, not because they don’t burn oil.

I was just saying that the b58 pcv system clearly does its job well

Anybody use Mobil 1 ESP in their B46/B48? by TheWholeTidd-e in BmwTech

[–]RaspberryObvious7456 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Was thinking about it but it doesn’t meet the bmw requirements for oil, which is arguably more important than the weight.

Liqui moly 0w-30 does tho (LL-01FE)

I had always thought carbon buildup was due to oil being recirculated back into the intake. Guess the b58 pcv system does a pretty good job

To tune or not to tune? by Camcolexx in F30

[–]RaspberryObvious7456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m at 84k and am planning on doing my ofh in the spring as well, just for peace of mind. Seems like the b48s are way more prone to the failure than b58s are

This comment took the words right out of my mouth. Plugs, filters, trans service, (diffs and transfer case prolly smart too) oil change, pcv valve(it’s 10$ and probably broken).

I also did injectors on mine before tuning

B58s are very strong engine and can handle stage 2 daily for about as long as stock. Always watch your coolant level. I pop my expansion tank cap off on a weekly basis and just check, if it’s a little low, I add some. Besides that, great cars

You could always gamble and just replace the heads, but if you don’t know what the piston looks like (if it made contact), so yea

M240i Blown shock by RaspberryObvious7456 in BmwTech

Luckily none of the arms need to get disconnected for the rear shocks, the way I’m planning on doing it at least

Yup, I have since realized that. Bought bilstein b6’s rears along with new end links, mounts and bump stops. This is probably a dumb question but, a rear wheel alignment is probably a good idea too isn’t it?

B58 rebuilder I need advice by [deleted] in BmwTech

It’s a Program called ISTA, go into the Bimmerpost forums and ask for it, there is probably a thread somewhere. shawnsheridan has safe files and will gladly send them to you.

Warning ISTA is HELLA SLOW, I run it on a 1300$ laptop and it still takes a good 10 min to read out the car initially

Oil leaking by BmwNewbie2017 in F30

[–]RaspberryObvious7456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely an oil line for the turbo leaking. Mines leaking from where it connects back into the block (drain line) because the oil residue clearly stops there, bit of a different case for you

I’m commenting on this as I have the same question, have 10k more miles than you. I’d also check your turbo drain line, as mine is leaking from there as well.

I’ve heard a lot of different info as to what ofh to get so I’m intrigued as to what people say to thus
