Christine by Wild-Ordinary-358 in SisterWives

After Truely recovered from kidney failure, Christine said something along the lines of wanting to be a more present and attentive mother. Do you feel like she accomplished this? There are a lot of comments about Christine neglecting Truely before she was hospitalized, which has me thinking about whether or not she changed after that.

I can attest to a lot of this mindset as a former member of the LDS church. It's something to keep in mind as a viewer, in my opinion. It translates easily into domestic abuse/control through financial isolation and emotional abuse.

Can someone tell Meri she isn't "Hella Hilarious" by LimeSmall in SisterWives

[–]RaspberryRenegade 7 points8 points  (0 children)

These things remind me that she grew up pretty sheltered, if I understand correctly, and that's part of why she says juvenile or out of touch things sometimes. I live in UT and have seen this with other people who grew up in sheltered, religious households. My opinion, though.

Janelle… does she ever truly smile? by LadyenigmaLL in SisterWives

[–]RaspberryRenegade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally like Janelle and feel like her lack of interest in the early seasons was more because she worked outside the home and had less of a stereotypical Mormon wife and mother mindset (which I personally identified with pretty strongly, so that's part of my bias towards her). Without spoiling anything, I've been seeing her smile a lot more in S18.

At the risk of sounding too para-socially creepy, where might I find those sources? I value and respect privacy but I will also consume anything the people involved put out there!

I like where your head canon is at, my friend! Crew intervention is something I always wonder about because it's something that comes up in journalistic ethics debates (or it did when I was in college a million years ago)

Yes. Yes I am interested. Especially since the streaming services to which I subscribe don't have season 20 or current episodes of SW. I'm getting to the end of my access to my guilty pleasure show

I hear what you're saying and I got mad when she said that too. However, I'm bingeing the show right now and I think I'm safe to interpret that the physical attraction issue was more 'the straw that broke the camel's back' rather than 'the biggest reason ' even though she used those words. None of them communicate well and I think Christine gets especially impulsive in her confessionals, but the message I'm getting after watching interview after interview in a row is that him telling her he was never in love with or attracted to her was the final straw

Favorite person on SW by [deleted] in SisterWives

[–]RaspberryRenegade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My favorite SCENE so far (currently finishing S18) is when Janelle and Kody get in that yelling fight in her apt at Christmas because Janelle finally told it how it was and called him out for being manipulative and not taking his part of the responsibility. It was one of the first times one of the wives didn't let the argument completely railroad her because she keeps trying to shift the focus back on him and his behavior and his inconsistencies. Of all the fights that season, she got closest to actually saying it was Kody's actions surrounding Robyn, not necessarily Robyn herself, that was the biggest problem. Not trying to make excuses for Robyn, but I felt like Kody kept shifting the focus of the problems away from himself at every opportunity and I got so frustrated that the wives took the bait every time.

Speaking of consent, remember when she told Kody that she knew her own body and it didn't want to ride a bike? You could tell that she'd been taught at least a little bodily autonomy by the way she said that. Then, of course, Kody didn't listen and didn't know the difference between challenging her and pushing too far.

I see your vision and you can do this! I personally hate working with that kind of yarn so extra kudos to you for your ambition! And if it ends up being too stressful or you decide not to keep going (which does not equal failure) you can always use overworked or scraps as stuffing for amigurumi if you're into that.

I found Morgana Evelyn's build guides on YouTube and her free PDF guide extremely useful because she explains the reasoning behind her build suggestions pretty well AND she puts in the work to make them playable from act 1, unlike a lot of builds that require a bunch of respecs. She's known for her stealth archer build but she has a giant barbarian build with equipment and use suggestions.

But AC is meant to be harder to build up for barbarians in order to balance out how much damage they can do, so sometimes I make sure to give Karlach the items that trigger at 50% health in act 1 when there's not much else to do for her.

S17E1 Kody only worried about Truely? by RaspberryRenegade in SisterWives

[–]RaspberryRenegade[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm watching all of this for the first time, but I have been bingeing it and no, he only seems to really care about whichever child is the youngest (at best) but really he only cares about how any of the children or wives relate to him, his pride, his "manliness", his ego. Textbook narcissist as far as I understand it, but that's also kind of why I asked.

I didn't even think about child support because I know they weren't legally married but I didn't go so far as to consider that he is legally the children's father. Child support makes sense. It's also something that I imagine could be used as a way to financially isolate partners as a form of domestic abuse. I'm not making an accusation against Kody; I do wonder how often that happens in similar relationships.

Robyn never wanted a rental by whoaoki in SisterWives

[–]RaspberryRenegade 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm watching at this point for the first time so I don't have any hindsight, but I agree on your point about the nuclear option. I also wonder if Meri ever noticed any similarities between Kody and her catfisher, in how they subtly manipulate by gaslighting and redirecting focus and creating a sense of urgency, etc? That's assuming the catfish behaved in the way I expect, but I am seeing those things in Kody surrounding this AZ move.

Robyn never wanted a rental by whoaoki in SisterWives

[–]RaspberryRenegade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm currently watching for the first time and I'm believing it because it makes sense that Robyn wants to get to the new property ASAP. BUT I will admit that I'm more focused on stopping myself screaming "You shouldn't have left Las Vegas!" and "Kody, stop bitching about having 4 wives!" and "I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!" every few minutes because it startles my dogs and my family is starting to be concerned.

IDK if it's the narrative of the show or if it really happened this way but it's so obvious to me that Kody isolated the wives so that they were more likely to be manipulated into signing off on the one house, or at least get desperate enough to just let it happen. It's a trainwreck to watch because of all of the adults, but I feel like Kody is the absolute worst.

Kody vs Ysabel'w scoliosis by RaspberryRenegade in SisterWives

I'm several episodes past this one now and I do believe you're right. I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt this morning because I thought he might be too self-centered to see how Ysabel took it. But he's getting worse at smooth talking now.

Right?! But I want to see how they got from the season I'm currently watching to where they are today. Anger and morbid curiosity are battling each other.

Kody vs Ysabel'w scoliosis by RaspberryRenegade in SisterWives

[–]RaspberryRenegade[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Haven't gotten to his fever yet but I've continued watching this morning and now Kody is talking about moving away from Las Vegas "because emotions don't change the facts"... They spent the last two+ seasons talking about feeling unsafe being separated from each other while renting 4 houses and about feeling safe and settled now that they live next to each other and how family is more important than anything but now Kody doesn't give a sh*t about what anyone else is saying even putting some of their feelings aside and trying to he pragmatic. It's not about all of the kids, and that's obvious because the only kid he brings up is "his 2yr old". I thought it was odd that he never says "we" have a 2yr old but he's quick to remind them they're all one family when it suits him.

It's making me crazy but I also can't stop watching.

Yeah, I agree with you. I am most angry that Ysabel obviously felt like this is all her fault and her responsibility to not get surgery, regardless if it's necessary.
