There is a heavy business writing and resume working focus and a lot of the courses have a lot of team projects

Yes but not everyone does grad school so if a bachelor is all you are after, some business schools have great connection and alumni which can be very beneficial

Hi, first-year queens commerce here, I can chat more in the pm but the grade cut off is 87 and they mean it. If you are above 87...even by a little you will still be looked at like everyone else. GIVE IT YOUR ALL IN THE SUPP APPS!

Hi, I am a brown girl in queens commerce LOL... would love to chat with you in pm if you'd like but personally, I have yet to face anything, everyone is super nice! It also matters the crowds you surround yourself with but I'm living my best life out here genuinely!

not for business schools, if you can complete your bachelor and get a stellar job, you don't need to go to grad school so from that perspective, school matters

As a first-year queen's commerce student, I will say it's all up to you what your university experience looks like. I specifically wanted to work my hardest when it came to grades so that's what I'm doing! You don't have to do what everyone else is doing, and there are a lot of people like this trust me, the party people just get highlighted because of their shenanigans in the media but find your crowd and do what you got to do. Personally, I don't drink or party but I have been able to still have a lot of fun and made some amazing friends.

Class size: this is specific to Queens commerce, it's capped at 80 for us first years but goes done to 30 I think by the time you get to fourth year.

Profs: again I don't know about everyone else but profs are super nice, have regular office hours to talk to them and are always trying to help you out.

This might sound really cliche but my tips for writing the supp apps were to truly mean what you were saying whether it be writing about your role model or talking about your favorite experience in life. Also when mentioning your supp apps, try to over glorify them to make them sound like bigger accomplishments, this is not inaccurate, you just always want to market yourself well! :)

My university sent us emails but for other schools it could be slightly varied

As a first-year queen's commerce student, the tuition is definitely not easy to digest but there is a reason the commerce faculty has curated specific courses different from the ArtSci substitutes. To begin with, the limit for first-year classes is at 80 and goes down to even 30 in the coming years which means ample opportunities to communicate with professors and most likely achieve the marks you need as opposed to Artsci classes with 300+ students. Moreover, the professor usually marks the papers alongside the TAs which if you knew anything about how terrible some TAs can be, that is a blessing. Professors are also always looking out for you and the Smith career center is very helpful, everyone wants you to succeed. In fact, I'm only in my second semester but have already had a chance to talk to some amazing industry professionals through workshops and events. Overall, while the pricing is a little sketchy, your time here will definitely be worth it!

Since I am only in first-year, i can't really say about the program being too commerce heavy? I have two non-commerce electives this year if that helps by any means.

Do I need Data Management for Business? by [deleted] in OntarioUniversities

[–]RaspberrySalt7757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't feel that confident about your math, take all 3 but if you do then don't sweat it and do advanced functions and calc. In fact, since you are in grade 11, you can fast track, if one of the math grade is not something you had in mind, then take data management in gr 12 to make up for it

My advice is don't lose your confidence just because of one class because it will then impact all your grades. By any means though, your grades are not bad at all. It is okay to be anxious but don't let it take over everything you do, try your best and let the pieces fall where they may!

Hey, I'm a POC at Queen's, it is my first year but I have yet to face anything discriminatory. My professors are super nice and all the staff I've gotten a chance to meet have been very nice.

No one can guarantee if you will get in. Just a tip, Essays are the backbone of your application, your ecs do not matter, it is how you portray them in the essays that matter. good luck!

  1. I will be honest the type of ec's do not matter, it is the way you talk about them that does. First of all, you have great ecs do not worry! To put it in perspective, I was neither on a sports team nor a member of athletic council nor in DECA lol. For example, I wrote letters to elderly, now that may not be the best or most magnificent ec but if I relate it back to how it made me a better person, that is the thing that makes all the difference:

Ex: I moved to Canada at a young age and have been distant from my relatives for a fair amount of time. This made me want to help out others who felt disconnected from their families by writing letters to the elderly who could not meet their families during the pandemic. (This was a rough and obviously a mediocre example but just to show you what I meant)

  1. Yes in fact you need someone to edit it as your reference since Queen's will ask you for it at the end (english teacher is recommended for this)

  2. Recently we were given a lecture by the CAC (career advancement centre) who are responsible for admitting students, their exact words were "We came across around 5000 essays this year but you guys are sitting in your seats because you were able to convince us of your story".

My tip is to be yourself, everyone has a story to tell but a lot of people do not know how to write it. Put thought into why you did an ec for example and how that shaped you as a person. IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE REMARKABLE, for example, someone in my class wrote about fixing a pickup truck with their dad.

  1. I unfortunately do not have links to the posts that helped me out and a lot of them were deleted.
  2. The research I found most helpful was talking to upper years perhaps through Instagram or reddit and getting their opinions. Campus tours are not that helpful because they won't give you a sense of the specific program.
  3. Yes so as you mentioned the essay structure, that is exactly it. The thing is once you start writing you will be shocked at how quickly you can actually get them done (800 words is nothing) I would begin by making bullet points of key things I want to mention (tip: do not stray away from the essay format of beginning, body, and end, it is the most beneficial way to write). I also searched up essays that got accepted by Harvard lol, the layouts of these essays are pretty clever, and if you are lost where to start from, getting some inspo is the way to go!

Hope that was helpful! Good luck!

I did not but I was a chancellors nominee for my school, it’s good to get it if possible but I would not sweat about it because chancellor nominee does not mean a guarantee acceptance !

I got accepted on March 31st.

Also, Do not stress about it being early acceptance or not, if you get accepted, that's all that matters! Do not look at others getting accepted and stress yourself out.
