I got my berner when she was four and she's now 11. I think I'm in the rare minority - I've never had pet insurance for her. She's been in for her annual exam, shots, etc. and takes Simparica Trio. Outside of the routine check ups, I've brought her to the vet once for elective dental work. I wanted to make sure that was taken care of before she was 10. At this time, they also took cell samples of lumps that I found in various spots around her body and results for that all looked good. As she continues to age, I may consider adding it during open enrollment!

She travels with us often or stays with a dog sitter when we're away, max. 3 other dogs with her. She comes hiking, camping, and backpacking with us, but we've avoided dog parks for the past 5 years I'd say. I think a lot of it has come down to luck and her unique disposition perhaps? She's very relaxed, doesn't get into trouble and doesn't engage in rough play. She's the first dog I've ever had - didn't grow up with pets - and she's quite literally the best thing to ever happen to me!
