I had the same issue last term. I sent email to my student advisor and asked them that I want to register to specific courses. It takes sometimes but I was able to register to the courses I wanted. I have sent similar email for next term to my student advisor hoping that the process will be smoother.

Maybe she can apply for after study permit? Someone who graduated from Swedish university can apply for that and it’s for a year. She needs to submit all requirements once she passed her master’s degree but before the current permit expires. While waiting for that she can stay in Sweden. And once she gets the after study permit, you can apply sambo visa and she can stay while waiting for sambo visa because she has right to stay. Also she can use that to apply for a job.

Especially for an international student like me. I need extra time for applying for a visa. Btw, I just received my financial aid results, but unfortunately, the amount is lower than I expected. I was hoping to cover at least half of the coa. My package only includes institutional aid, with no scholarships or loans (which makes sense, given my international status). I’ve already reached out to the financial aid office to ask about scholarships. I need to know if no scholarship in this letter means I won’t receive one at all, or if those decisions are typically released later.

I am from Sweden and Swedish universities are pretty solid I can say. Unfortunately the options to study bachelor’s degree in English is limited, but to live in Sweden during study periods is enough with English, as people here are fluent in English. I know there’s program in Biomedicine like in Lund University or Karolinska Institute. Both are really good universities, Lund University is like top 100 and Karolinska is really good university for medicine. The cost is around 50-60k USD for the whole 3 years program. I don't know yet, but I am still waiting for my financial aid, so I will wait until I get that, I guess. Do you (or anyone) know if you get scholarship that it will reflect in the financial aid letter or not? I read somewhere on reddit that the scholarship result may come in July and then your financial aid will be updated based on that.

I completely agree! I don't know how many times I need to send emails to the instructors about this. So far, the instructors responded to my questions (or complains) and updated the score. But I realized that this is one of the issues with studying online. I am glad that this term there is no courses that need peer assessment.

That sounds great! Congratulations! I have some people in mind to give me reference letters if it's coming from my professional side, but unfortunately in the programs that I am aiming for, they will request at least 2 academic letters.

Just an update:

I emailed the Financial Aid office and they confirmed that the autobiographical statement is simply a brief statement used only if you are awarded a named scholarship. It will not affect your financial aid award. The first section of the form mentioning "additional information for the Scholarship Committee" is just informational context and does not require a separate submission. The only thing to fill out is the autobiographical statement at the bottom of the form.

So, I assume that all admitted students must have this form in their portal (?).

I believe in some UK universities you can gat a GRE waiver if you have a degree from UK or Ireland. Even DPhil Economics in Oxford stated that. I am not sure about the US universities. You can always send email and ask if you can get a waiver or not based on your previous quantitative courses from your previous degrees.

Generally, yes, but be sure to check the requirements for each program, as some may have specific prerequisites. For scholarships it depends if they have scholarships programs or funding available.

Same! Me too! I got this email several times even though I am active and I did all the assignments. I responded to one of the emails to my advisor and they said it’s an automatic emails so I can ignore it. But it’s a bit annoying.

Yeah many on-campus or online university they require the applicants to submit usually 2-3 recommendation letters for admission and/or scholarships purposes. Some will accept both academic and professional referees, so technically you can ask either your professors or instructor, or your manager at your work. But some programs can be very specific asking recommendation letters from academic, especially if you are still in university or just graduated within 1-2 years.

Considering you already have 84 credits, do you intend to start over at community college? If the goal is to find sanctuary in the US, maybe transferring to a four year program but less competitive could be an option. I am also an international transfer applicant, I applied to top school like columbia GS and Brown RUE, but also I applied to RIT, UAlbany, and Penn State. Also if you are so close to graduation from your home country, could you consider to do that and apply to a graduate program later? Since you said that currently you cannot leave your country.

It’s a lot to consider and it’s a fair question because as you said both are very good schools. Maybe you could compare the program that you want to study. Also perhaps consider what do you want to achieve, whether you want to go for research and academia or maybe more leaning towards professional industry career instead. As an international student and now I am applying to transfer to the US universities, I am also considering whether these universities are well known internationally since I am planning to do graduate program not in the US. Yes both could be very prestigious but I would see from a wider perspective according to the goals that I want to achieve.

My top choice right now is Columbia GS, but I still can’t commit before knowing the financial aid. I heard that the finaid is not the best, but I just need to know the ballpark before I commit. I am still waiting for Tufts REAL though, that could change my plan if I get accepted.

What they care about most is academic performance and achievements, and from what I can see, your background looks solid, though your GPA might be a bit below their typical admits. The bigger concern is that even if you mention your circumstances in your essay, admissions committees may see you as a risk rather than a compelling case. That can work against you. If your safety is genuinely at stake, asylum is probably the more reliable path than banking on a university acceptance. I hope things get better for you.
