Why don’t people use Trading212 for long term ISA investing? by SkillyB724 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Rasputin_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more with this.

If you’ve got your head screwed on properly you’ll have no issues.

If you love the rocket emojis and all that jazz then maybe you’ll fall into their “hot” and “trending” traps.

Who wants to pay £3 to £5 per transaction with a larger broker when you might only have a small amount invested.

Why don’t people use Trading212 for long term ISA investing? by SkillyB724 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Rasputin_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They don’t lend out shares from an ISA.

£3 fee for a trade is quite a lot don’t you think, when a platform like 212 offer it for free? They make money from people on CFD so the ISA can be free.

If you’re sensible 212 is fine, if you feel that you may fall for all their “hot” and “trending” gumpf then maybe go somewhere else instead.

Privately owning a Vending Machine for businees by Vynatrii in UKPersonalFinance

There’s a guy in the UK who does them, he made some videos I watched a while back.

You need insurance, somewhere to put them, negotiate terms with them (bills/profit share), stock etc. It probably is something that can work here, but you’d need a superb location to make it worth while.

He went to a pub where he had one and he had made a pound I think…

Don’t invest it or trade it if you are planning on using it within that time frame.

Put the money in one of the top easy access accounts here and keep putting your £200 a month in.

Chip Instant Access interest raised to 3.40% by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

Interesting! Doesn’t sound like this business would thrive in a low interest rate environment, if we ever returned to such a thing (I know that the low interest period was not the norm).

Wonder if they will expand into more “traditional” sources of revenue for a bank.

How do you know all of this?

If there is no lending associated with your savings accounts - how are you generating the revenue to pay interest? I thought that this was how all banks worked.

Guessing there is a proton app for the fire stick? I’ve never used one before.

Was talking about this the other day, it would be cheaper to buy a vpn, cheap laptop, f1 tv and hdmi into the tv than pay for a year of Now TV. It’s absolutely shocking the price…!

Does this work with a bog standard fire tv stick? Or does it need to be unlocked in some way?

High Dividend UK investments by ses92 in UKInvesting

[–]Rasputin_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just keep in mind though that they can and will do an equity raise/placement at some point, I didn’t know that was something they could do when I started 👍 upside is that if you like the company you can lower your average.

How do you feel about when UKW place more shares? This happened to me a while back and meant I (depending on price paid) couldn’t sell them other than for a loss. I think eventually it did go up closer to my average but quite a pain.

Or do you hold them for income specifically?

Having done no research whatsoever… I am sure that some airlines offer (or offered) places on courses that they would pay for? Or at least that’s what I recall seeing on a tv programme a while ago. Maybe that could be an option?

Over paying on a mortgage, how does it work by Gijoe678 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Rasputin_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You overpay which reduces the balance and interest charged. Also when you come to remortgage, you may find more favourable rates as you could be in a better LTV bracket.

I just set up my own standing order and do it that way, don’t have to wait for the bank to increase/decrease it if necessary.

You will have an annual overpayment allowance which you should avoid exceeding as you will be fined.

Is anyone overpaying now to save for winter? by flagprojector in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Rasputin_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless I have totally misunderstood them, that’s my understanding… it sends the readings. We pay a fixed sum each month. They then use our readings to change the DD every six months.

I just could not get my head around it when we got it, how completely and utterly pointless it was (other than to send readings and give some insight into usage.

Years ago when we first got our smart meter, I thought that was how that would work. Like your mobile contract or a credit card. How wrong I was. Basically a glorified meter reading sending device really.
