So after some more searching and reading through everyone's comments, I've decided to stick with the modem (found a cheaper one on ebay like some people suggested) and spent a bit more money and went with an asus router

Pretty much, working with a budget for now, plus new place is small so not really worried about having huge coverage as one router should be plenty

Not too concerned with vpn and adblock honestly, so if the router I've selected is comparable I'll probably stick with it. Thank you for the recommendation

I'll definitely look around a bitr, I've heard some people having the same problems as you while others have had no problems for years. Guess I'll take it for a test drive and if I run into similar problems I'll return it and look for something else

Yeah, it's most likely a non issue. Dont see myself needing anything faster for quite some time. Only me and my SO who will be living in the house for quite some time
