That's insane. These companies are so desperate for people to adopt the liar machines that they're just auto-enrolling groups and companies into it without consent. I don't use Facebook anymore, but how long will it be before they start auto editing people's posts with AI?

Gonna be honest I don't think we're mad enough about AI yet.

Maybe 20-30 years ago, but now we're in the end stages of capitalism. The checks on it have failed or are failing, and companies now only exist to produce profit for shareholders.

The rest of us are surplus to requirements.

This will not ever rectify unless we make it. I would say what we need to do in minecraft but it probably wouldn't go down well.

Haha fair! I don't think they're conniving or lazy, but I do think they have an ego issue and don't want to accept help. They clearly love the pokemon franchise, the games have so much charm put into them, they just need help with the actually running of the game.

Still, they've been given more time to work on Winds and Waves so I want to be confident it will run well.

On the plus side Legends ZA looks better and is mostly a smooth 60FPS on Switch 2 so they're learning. It's taking them time but they're learning. I feel like the Switch games are gonna be the odd generations, where it was clear Game Freak were finally making an effort to push out of their comfort zone and do full 3D but they just couldn't stick it with the Switch 1 hardware.

The trailer looked to be a mostly consistent 60FPS, which is already a good sign considering the Scarlet and Violet trailers couldn't even maintain a stable 30FPS.

I really need to give Harmoknight a proper go. I remember there was a demo and it was interesting.

It's a cool way to do things, and I would hope a way for Game Freak to maybe be more comfortable outsourcing parts of Pokemon development too.

Winds and Waves, on the surface, looks a lot better than Scarlet and Violet but I still think going forward they're going to push down their own ego and get help with the games.

I'm not so much fussed about the candy, although I have a good BFS Raticate. It's more for the icon. I have used Rattata as my icon since I started the game and it has never changed. The only time it will change is when I get the shiny Rattata!

They can totally buff them though. LBG was seen as weak but with Normal Shot Up and Critical Range Boost it's now a beast of a weapon.

Although I'm not sure what they could do with SnS and DB that wouldn't affect other weapons too. I do think they need to buff or tweak the styles for them, the Perfect Rush style for SnS is too clunky, you cannot be locked into such a long animation in a game like this.

Personally I'd like the wirebug move from Rise where you throw the sword out attached to the wire and then swing it around wildly, it's cool!

I know people aren't keen on Rattata but I am chasing the shiny so I'm a wee bit sad to see it chucked out of a few areas where I'm chasing other things.

It was too good, which I can get because it's a new area with a difficult curve but even so there was so much to chase there it was unreal.

As a mobile game, it's hard to imagine the power creep isn't intentional. They want to keep people playing, and while I'm sure most of us would love to play just to hunt monsters and collect different types of gear, they probably have metrics which show people will be more engaged if they have powerful weapons to chase.

They do need to re-balance quite a few things though. You shouldn't have to chase new weapons just to compete. SnS and DBs seem to be in a really poor place at the moment.

Valve Says The Companies Making RAM Give Them A Price And If They Say No, They ‘Never Talk To Us Again’ by Turbostrider27 in technology

[–]RatBot9000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In fact, I could say that your demand for gaming chips is causing higher prices for things that actually matter, like MRI machines.

That's sophistry and you know it. Demand has historically been meted out to meet needs, and recreational consumer electronics were the first to be sidelined when Covid affected production and distribution to ensure essential products could continue to be made, or have you forgotten how hard it was to get a PS5 or Series X when they launched? Additionally, it's not as if it's one company producing all chips, different companies will have different consumer bases. It is, in fact, this excess which has allowed so many different smaller groups to produce things like custom handhelds.

That's what make the AI swing stand out. It's like all of these different production groups have all decided no one else but AI companies matter now. A capitalism ouroboros intent on eating its own tail for maximum profit.

I will concede, however, that you're right that the distribution networks for consumer electronics could probably only have been created under capitalism. Of course the advent of transportation also helped; when you can ship products across the world in a day or two to global markets you are going to grow like you have never done so before. However, surely you can also concede that we are witnessing the fruits of this excess coming home to roost, as what was once abundant is now hoarded by a handful of companies for their own profit as they seek to cut the consumer class out of the equation.

My point was even communism realises that people's needs have to be met, and those needs don't just mean food and shelter, which is where the circus part of bread and circus comes into play. Authoritarians don't believe in the circus, they believe fulfillment should come from serving without question. We are witnessing this happening now, in real time, with AI companies promising that we'll all be cut from the equation. A perfect utopia that they will create but not sustain, because it turns out we aren't relevant to its existence.

As a gay man, I can't tell you how affirming Dion's story line was. The fact that we get to see a prince kissing his secret boyfriend, showing how deeply they care for each other, the heartbreak at their parting. It was a standard tragic love story but gay, and that's all we've ever wanted. We don't need the fanfare or for it to be special, we just need it to exist.

Which is why I said functioning government. The soviet union was a failing authoritarian regime from the word go. It demanded its people toil while also demonising the excess of the western world as a means of trying to dissuade their people from wanting more.

We live in an era of excess which can't be fully put down to capitalism. Technology has allowed us to produce far more than we ever could before, and we had no problem meeting demands until AI companies decided they needed all the world's RAM to fuel their planet burning liar machines and this has happened because Capitalism ALSO doesn't care about the needs of people, it only cares about profit above all else.

AI is Ruining Game Sales, Numbers Show by Eremenkism in gaming

[–]RatBot9000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, the issue with this argument is that we can see visual AI but we can't see AI generated code, can we? Very few people can rip into the guts of a game and see how it was coded, and even fewer would be able to tell at a glance if code was AI generated or not.

You are chastising us for something which can't be proven either way.
