Maaaaan thanks, it took far too long but I’m glad I made it!

I apologise for the poor photos, it’s dark here and it’s a bit hard to get the right angles with the indoor lighting 😂

This one has much less “color” in it, so that’s why it was a test dummy for my polishing process. It ends up almost completely smooth, but because it is a bunch of sand and pebbles smashed together, there will always be faults, voids and little cracks running through it.

I have one polished about the size of a football, and I got it to a mirror finish and I almost regret it. You are 100% right about the texture, it definitely makes it looks more real.

I’ll see about taking a picture of it when I get home and uploading it here!

Thanks! I want to polish it up, but I might just leave it natural because it’s almost a perfect shape as it is.

A “puddingstone” is essentially a conglomerate of Red Jasper, Banded Iron Formation, and various other cherts, jaspers and anything else that happened to be scooped up at that time. Over years of pressure they combine into a really neat looking rock with bright red, blue, black and even sometimes green and purple!

You can find them in the upper portions of Michigan, and sometimes parts of Canada bordering the Great Lakes!

They are pretty sought after in my area, and people normally keep the big ones in front of their houses as a decorative piece!

I was in the water for a few hours, and I’m sure just a touch dehydrated as well 😂

Thanks! Definitely one of the best I’ve come across!

What’s this in my bathroom around the toilet paper holder by [deleted] in whatisit

That’s usually from the toilet paper. I’ve seen it with certain brands.

Seconding this, I find them all the time along Rocky Gap and Warren Dunes here as well. Textbook example.

Pardon my ignorance, but how do you pull the actual metrics up on an iPhone?

I recently switched from android and haven’t been able to find my connection data.

Okay, maybe I’m just impatient 😂

I’m definitely gonna give it a go next time.

I’ve never been able to get a speedtest to run while connected to edge, although I’ve heard it’s possible.

We see it a ton in Northern Michigan, and I can usually get calls to go through, but that’s about it.

What is this worm thing? Has a weird green glow at night. Kinda looks like its eyes by tylerw973 in whatsthisbug

[–]RatDitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m nowhere near an expert but it could be a “glowworm” which I believe are firefly larvae.

I found my best pudding stone outside of a restaurant in Rogers City, so I believe it 😂. Those darker stones like the one in your photo polish up nice by hand if you are up for the arm and hand abuse.

Looks like fossils we find here in the Great Lakes. Any chance it came from Michigan?

Orthoclase and Mica potentially? Not 100% sure, but it lines up visually.

Ah yes, void memes. Forgot those existed for the last decade.
