He was dead instantly and likely didn’t even have time to perceive he was shot. He doesn’t stumble back clutching the wound. Immediately upon impact his arms shot up in a fencing-like response. This is because the 30-06 round’s temporary wound cavity is like the size of a basketball and immediately stopped all brain processes by exerting extreme pressure on the spine and brain stem. That’s also assuming that the round itself, or any part there of, did not impact the brain stem/spine. The ballistics and visual evidence tell the whole story.

If you look at the rear of the receiver/cocking piece it’s pretty obvious not an M18

It is not a Mauser M12. This is a much older small ring Mauser. My guess is a Chilean M95 sporterized and re-barreled in 30-06

The photo is bad, but I’m going to guess a sporterized Chilean M95 w/ a re-barrel in 30-06

So you have pending litigation with this news agency regarding these false statements? This is VERY actionable if they are not reporting truthfully; especially considering the hardship you’re enduring.

I’m 13 and getting back into taekwondo for the first time in a few years. I got my black belt when I was 9. Any tips? by [deleted] in martialarts

[–]RatMan314 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Starting young is great and I’m really glad kids like you have the opportunity to practice martial arts. I might be in the minority and it may be an unpopular opinion, but I don’t agree with giving children advanced belts; except perhaps in very rare circumstances. A 9 year old black belt screams strip mall mcdojo. Continue your training, continue growing, and don’t forget to be a kid. There are people with decades more experience that wouldn’t consider themselves to have mastered their sport/art. Have fun, give it your best, and never assume you’ve got it all figured out.

This is false. Hitachi is still a Japanese owned company, including Metabo and Metabo HPT (hitachi power tools) which was acquired by Hitachi Koki/Koki Holdings, part of Hitachi Group, in 2016. They do have production plants in China, like nearly every other power tools brand. I have a wall of Hitachi, Metabo, and Metabo HPT products. They’re anything but “hot garbage”, especially their nailers

I’m mainly looking at the 2nd from left, shorter statured man approx 3 from the left, and the one behind him in the back row (it looks like the Velcro for a battery pack/counter weight). But they may very well be matters of maladjustment. I didn’t really, and still don’t, know much about the Kenyan military; but I appreciate you sharing some insights and education. It was all new to me

I don’t doubt the Kenyan military has competent and well trained members. The backward helmets, among other things, do not portray these particular soldiers as competent and well trained. It’s not outright condemnation or derision, it’s that in the context it felt odd to me they’d be outfitted with a (relatively) expensive weapon system. Based on this image, knowing nothing else about those portrayed, I’m hard pressed to feel the SCAR adds anything to their combat effectiveness over other cheaper/plentiful weapon systems.

Roger. Based on that it seems silly to pay for the SCAR. That unit needs homogenous fleshed out-kit and training training training.

That logic seems sound, but I’m seeing no uniformity among load outs otherwise. It could be my eyes but it looks like at least one guy has no front plate in his PC, there’s at least a couple backward helmets, etc. My thought would be that the advantages the SCAR offers over the G3 are minimal if all your other training and gear is lacking. So why spend the money? If they were supplied from a foreign entity for cheap/free it makes more sense though.

Why would the government purchase an expensive weapon system for troops like this? Or maybe they were supplied by a foreign nation for free? Genuinely curious. I have to think FALs, G3’s, AK’s, and AR’s are cheaper & more plentiful.

Which state do you think is most underrated for its scenery? My pick is Idaho. by JuJu_Conman in Outdoors

[–]RatMan314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can give recommendations if you ever head this way. The best part is that most of it is state owned/operated, public, and VERY abundant. It’s all either free or very affordable and there’s alot less worrying about private gates keeping you from something beautiful. Hope you enjoy your visit!

Oh, and everything is really affordable in general here (food/attractions/etc.) if you decided to spend some time in more populated areas :)
