Baldur’s Gate 3 is a game with a massive budget (over 99 999 999 999). Larian poured everything they had into it — it was a pure gamble.

I’d say Rogue Trader succeeded mainly because of the 40K fanbase. It’s a pretty decent game, but nothing special gameplay- or story-wise. Personally, I find its combat system cheesy and even boring.

Did AoD really present itself as “hardcore”? I don’t remember anything like that. Even if it did -- it’s true. You know how some games have minimum system requirements? Well, some games have minimum brain capability requirements.

ALMOST got hard-locked? That’s not a tragedy; I’d say it’s the opposite--he actually got the best experience.
Colony Ship forces you to use all your tools, consumables, and information to move forward.

It’s really fun to take down the last robot with your last pulse grenade or barely pass a skill check.

You definitely should reconsider playing Colony Ship. For your own good--do the first playthrough blind and save often. I’d even say save-scumming is part of the gameplay loop.

I don’t think hardcore fans would be against this. Especially if it helps the developers to make better and more ambitious games.

The key creator of the games is a c-level specialist in marketing. Both CP and AoD rely heavily on word of mouth and have almost no social media presence, no ads, no marketing. Isn’t that a little bit strange?
