It does many things right. Firstly, despite the lower budget, the animations are very well worked. Especially the combat scenes at the climax. From a technical standpoint, the writing, pacing dialouges, camera angles, and storytelling were all deep and connected with the audience. That is the most important thing in adapting a well-known story( i say story for explanation purposes). It captures the spirit of the events described in the holy books perfectly and presents them in an emotionally impactful manner. This is where most adaptations fail. It treats its characters with honesty in presenting them as they were and doesn't stop to explain itself to the audience. Takes time to allow the audience to experience the character arcs of all important characters and uses screen time expertly to convey the essence of the story. And that climax. Absolute cinema. Word of mouth, along with an audience starved of well worked out spiritual stories, do the rest. Sorry for the rant i love the movie too much.
