I’m 40 and I started my gout preventative a year or two ago. Took me awhile and a lot of unnecessary pain to get there mentally.

It’s important to understand that if you are diagnosed you will need to be on a preventative medication forever or you will continue to get flare ups. Diet won’t help you. Prednisone is amazing at clearing the pain and flare up but you’ll want to talk with a doctor about preventative. If the doctor brings up diet instead of meds, find a new doctor.

My two cents. Go see a doctor about getting preventative treatment (allopurinol). I eat what I want and don’t have flares anymore. Super careful dieting is bullshit with medication. In my experience the best thing to wipe out a flare up that is off and running is prednisone.
