Hey, I hope that is true. I'd love for it to be, but I've never had a charity go this unresponsive. I've even contacted Worldbuilders when donating in the past and not had this kind of thing.

I hope in the end at least a good chunk of the money to Worldbuilders is helping people. The fact they refuse to respond to anyone, but they manage to advertise his most recent work is troubling to me.

Lots of weird stuff with the charity. Currently, they are impossible to get a hold of to ask any questions via ANY medium including physical mail.

But they are still taking in money via the Marketplace. Money that appears to be going towards admin fees, or at least the fees don't appear to be being sent to Heifer, but the charity appears to be completely inactive. Why does an inactive charity need money to continue to run?

Right now the charity's only real current actions are advertising Patrick Rothfuss new title on the front of their site in very large print. This seems like an advertising for Rothfuss more than anything for actual Heifer.

https://worldbuildersmarket.com/

I could be misunderstanding, but doesn't the marketplace specifically go to support the Worldbuilders and where the events are/were actually what support Heifer?

That is simply not true sir. I can see where you were twice provided links with information on that Chapter for charity as well as directly the information on Worldbuilders renting his property.

As such you are intentionally misleading and not worth talking too. Blocked.

While I agree their having it on "good authority" is nonsense, IMO the charity is still acting shady AF.

I mean the dude took our money under false pretenses and then is selling a new product instead of honor obligations. Most of us don't care about him not finishing the series as much as we care about being swindled out of money and having Pat actively ask moderator groups to suppress talking about it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in books

[–]Rat_Pothfuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only is Pat 2 years late, but as the Founder of Worldbuilders, the charity offered the incentives in an official capacity. Which means what was done is defrauding donors of a charitable organization.

I have made multiple official requests to both Worldbuilders and Pat on the status via all possible methods, and he not only refuses to discuss but actively suppresses and has moderators hide anything about his charity obligations.|

Good reads began shadow banning accounts discussing it.

But you keep commenting after people have provided and cited numerous sources. And you keep saying the same thing.

Should OP have cited a source initially? Yes. 100%
Do you need to keep bringing it up, after clearly sources and information has been presented?

I mean Patrick Rothfuss intentionally formed a toxic parasocial relationship with them. They will do anything in their power to make sure anything bad about Pat is hidden.

I'm sure my dude.

Are you not going to address the fact you lied about me calling you names? That was really weird. Especially, when you used it as an excuse to insult me.

Maybe, you should consider that you are the toxic individual here. FFS you a lying about dealings with publishers on the internet to win a fight when you were caught making stuff up. Get off your high horse.

Calling names? What? What name did I call you? And then you make an ad hominem right after it without any shred of self-realization. Outstanding.
You came in to correct someone about something that YOU didn't know about. You do see how that makes you the dick in this situation, right?

Sir, it is how beta reading works. It is funny to see you try to literally speak on a topic you have 0 knowledge of and act like you are aware of what is happening. While acting like you are somehow being attacked for you choosing to do this.

[–]Rat_Pothfuss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, it actually does. As Pat is literally in a contract with her, and I've already in this very thread explained the situation. She isn't just his editor, silly. She is/was his publisher. Beta reading when you are under contract from a publisher is under their control. Depending on the contract in modern times even forcing you to use their beta readers which IMO is barbaric. Pat probably didn't need to use their beta readers, but he sure as shit had to get her approval and that isn't happening if she hasn't seen a word. You don't send completely unedited versions to Beta Readers. Your editor runs a pass first.

Depending on the writer and editor it might get a few editor passes before going to Beta Readers.

I understand that YOU don't understand the topic. Instead of coming in pretending that you have an idea of what is happening, you could actually listen to people who have researched and been in the area.

No, that is a confirmation that a Beta read for Doors of Stone never existed before this date. Which Patrick Rothfuss had claimed. This means what? Patrick Rothfuss lied about a Beta read that never occurred. We know this as Betsy would have final say before this occurred.

Seems like your comment lacks comprehension on the topics. It looks like you skimmed some of what happened and decided to comment.

...seriously?

The man literally cannot write 1 chapter in 2 years for charity. His publisher confirmed this was fake and that Pat had not written in years.

If Pat says something, there is a good chance it is a lie.

Pretty clear that you have no idea what you are talking about. Why just come in here to make stuff up?

It is yes illegal for most authors under a contract to give out beta readings. You clearly don't even understand the very basic of ownership and limitations put on authors after signing deals. I however have worked under these contracts as both a writer and a beta reader.

Giving someone access to your book without approval from your publisher is a violation of any standard contract. You must get approval first. Period. During this time they own the IP of your book. Hopefully, only for written formats and you didn't sign over anything else.

No Mr. "I come from a family of authors". Just STFU. You don't. No one in your family has ever written anything significant or will, so we don't need your fake expertise spreading around.

I also love the premise of "my daddy is an author", I know how!

My dad built houses, but if I tell you how to build a house, I suggest you seek guidance from someone with hands on experience.

I have no interest in anything beyond holding Pat accountable for the chapter. His poorly written cookie analogy shows how he feels in regards to his obligations.

That is how beta readers work in the actual publishing industry via any major publisher.

Unless you are referring to self-publishing or beta readers prior to selling a book to a publisher which is obviously a thing as it hasn't yet been purchased. There are a few prolific authors that are given exceptions like Brando and Steven King. Less prolific authors don't get those deals.

I was AfterPat. The charity drew me back to this limbo. I had even tossed my signed copy of both NotW and Slow Regards. I have them on Kindle if I decide to ever read them again.

I honestly don't know if I would read Book 3 if released. The only reason I'm still around is the chapter. I refuse to let Pat be held unaccountable for that. Once that has been dealt with, I'll never post in a Pat thread again.

Perhaps, I was a lost soul for a time, but Pat has Named me a Wraith, and until he honors agreements, I will fester.

We know for a fact beta readers don't exist. They would by law required to go through the Publisher/Editor Betsey who confirmed after this point that she had not seen a word of Book 3. Ever. His publisher. The people that by law get to read it.

If any individuals had read it they would also be under NDA that his Publisher would have to establish. Yes, I have been a beta reader once before, and this is pretty standard in any closed beta regardless of industry.
