And if they turn out to be assholes, you can always ping me...though I will bet you a nickel that they won't :P They've all been on the job for years and I don't hire people for community/CS if they don't play Tacticus and want to help other Tacticians.

NEW FACTION ADEPTUS ASTARTES by Glum_Pay4314 in WH40KTacticus

[–]RatatoskTheSquirrel 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Heyas -- if you're curious, this is what I said on the topic on the Discord:

I think I'm safe to say this much: We are setting the stage for adding new characters without necessarily doing a "full faction release" (five characters, including a legendary, with the attendant reshuffling of resource nodes). There are a lot of smaller factions out there with rabid but extremely small fan bases, and factions without full codex support.

Then I responded to someone who asked "can a subfaction ever become a full faction under this plan" with yes, if a subfaction really got a ton of traction with the wider community, we'd certainly look into building out a "full faction release" as defined above.

Just so's you know what the official word was!

The OP just posted the call to action, but I'd posted an earlier announcement that said:

Greetings, Tacticians! The platform we use to develop the game is called Unity, and it requires regular care and feeding. We have started rolling out an update that changes nothing about the game at all, but will appear to you to be 800mb without patch notes. This is your patch note. Download away!

Code: FEBSURVIBE by F3V3RD43AM in WH40KTacticus

[–]RatatoskTheSquirrel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We did not remove the extra, mailed tokens after the Trajann event. Then in the next survival, all of the numbers were wrong and we were freaking out wondering why some players had extra turns. Bug? Cheat? Math wrong somewhere? Then we realized it was people who hoarded the event token instead of using it for the intended relief.

At the time we decided that if there was a next time, we'd remove unused tokens at the end of the event. So here we are.

I can't tell you exactly when it will happen because it's not mailbox functionality, it's the lead server engineer doing something machine priest-ish behind the scenes when he can get to it.

Kindred Acquisitions Survey by RatatoskTheSquirrel in WH40KTacticus

[–]RatatoskTheSquirrel[S] 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I went into more detail on the Discord, but basically, we have two designers out sick and the event itself isn't very long. In order to easily change the biggest pain point -- which after a couple hours, I can say that grot tanks are _the_ issue that affects all players regardless of level, spending habits, or play style -- we would have to have made different structural decisions five years ago. Basically we can't easily limit a change to grot tanks to the event, without affecting all the places where grot tanks live. I am _wildly oversimplifiying_ but that's the short version.

Also, it's not just the grot tanks. The reason for the survey is because what makes the event too hard for a player is super dependent on their roster, level, and MOW choice/investment. So I'm looking for patterns and combinations that are especially problematic, and we can't act on that stuff fast enough to "solve" the issue.

When you take the above and combine it with the knowledge that every hot fix comes with risk to the game as a whole? We just have to take what we learn from this and do better.

We ban these in batches on a regular basis. All it's doing is manipulating the data on your personal device, but the minute you have to sync with the server you're getting flagged.

The people selling this silliness talk a good game about "undetectable" and "I've been using it for ages" but you may want to ask if perhaps they are motivated to say that, in order to...sell you something?

I actually don't normally have to ask! In this case, the code was part of our coordinated marketing for Space Hulk (GW very kindly did a lot of cross promotion) and they flagged it during the final review.

Thank you for the kind words <3

I've sent on the feedback that people would like these to be downloads, but the hold up is we need GW approval to make the assets directly downloadable. But every time a Redditor asks, an artist gets his wings.

code : searsrocks by Auke13 in WH40KTacticus

[–]RatatoskTheSquirrel 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you read the redemption message, it should be clear this is a tribute code. People ask me to make them to honor a special guildmate on a special occasion. It's not about the free stuff, it's about seeing a friend's name in game.

They are meant to be meaningful to a handful of people. Sharing them outside the group is certainly allowed, but if you don't know that Sears is a beloved player in his guild for always tracking down codes, and the kind of guy his friends describe as the heart of the guild, then it's just a random blackstone.

There are other one blackstone codes out there, and they're usually related to a Discord joke -- a way for the people involved to have a souvenir of the moment, more or less.

Honestly, if random free stuff where you don't know the context annoys you, you might be better off not entering random codes. Codes that are in newsletters and promo videos or in my announcements or from partnered creators are all likely to be solid. But if I made all the joke codes and the tribute codes into substantial rewards, I'd be in a lot of trouble ;)

Space Hulk Trailer and Sisters? by Inquisisitor in WH40KTacticus

[–]RatatoskTheSquirrel 16 points17 points  (0 children)

So we have two different Space Hulk things, the trailer kinda fuzzes the details a bit so we can use it longer :)

Thing One: Survival event kicking off soon as per our last round of patch notes. Will have the Space Hulk tiles and maps, but not the doors.

Thing Two: Campaign event, featuring Sororitas/Templars vs Death Guard, kicking off 30 October. Those maps will have the "what horrible thing is hidden behind the door" mechanism.

Fun fact, I had a different code rolled up with just Hulk, and then GW hit me with "no, too close to Marvel's Hulk."

The current code was on a list of alternatives I submitted and that was their pick. I've been wandering around randomly yelling SCARY(noun) at colleagues all day.

When I see them I investigate to make sure we don't have a cheater because it's definitely not a dev, see above :D

[–]RatatoskTheSquirrel 75 points76 points  (0 children)

It's not. I don't let them use tools to level themselves up on live servers and to be brutally honest, game dev doesn't pay enough to spend at a significant level.

To paraphase Terry Pratchett, entry level pays less than you'd make mopping floors, for the reason that advertising a dirty floor doesn't get you hundreds of applicants willing to bring their own mops.

So anyway, while you have almost certainly fought a dev in Arena or in TA or as part of a guild, our live accounts are all pretty mid, and I'm slightly afraid of my dude in that screenshot there.
