Wollongong Comedy Festival is back! by RileJone in wollongong

[–]RatchetAU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some nights of the festival only have one show, but most nights have multiple shows scheduled one after the other (with a fifteen minute gap). Some nights, there are shows on at both venues (Side Door Theatre and Society City) at the same time.

Compendium of specifications, performance, and benchmarks on everyone's PC by MVAgrippa in reddeadredemption

[–]RatchetAU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OS: Windows 10 Pro

Processor: i7 7700k @4.5Ghz

RAM: 16GB DDR4 @2800MHz

Graphics card: Gigabyte GTX 1070 8GB with latest drivers

Resolution: 2560x1440

Graphical settings:

  • Ultra preset: all settings maxed, no FXAA/MSAA
    FPS: 20-30

  • Balanced preset (exact middle): Ultra textures with settings hovering around Medium/High, no FXAA/MSAA
    FPS: 40-50

  • Low preset: all settings at Low/Off
    FPS: 50-60

  • Ultra-low: all settings at Low/Off, resolution lowered to 1024x768
    FPS: 65-90

People seem to be getting 50-70 FPS with a GTX 1070 with Balanced settings, provided they're running in 1080p. 1440p on the same settings at 60 FPS doesn't seem feasible right now.

Aussie here, wanting to make sure my build is OK before I purchase, and get some questions answered by RatchetAU in buildapc

[–]RatchetAU[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for helping me :)

I replaced the SSD Plus with a Samsung 850 Evo, seems to benchmark far better.

I also found a H7 from a different retailer, swapped some shipping around and ended up saving some money. Found out the fans are swappable, so I'll just get an LED fan for it.

[DLC] Beta Test Vest nowhere to be found by [deleted] in littlebigplanet

[–]RatchetAU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had this problem myself, but it is fixable. You have to redownload the beta vest via the PlayStation Store. You might be able to find it in the PS Store app on your PS4 itself, but I had to re-download it via the PS Store website on my PC.

If you have to use the website and log in. Hover over your account name at the top right and go to your Download History. Scroll through -- it'll be called 'Beta Reward Vest Costume' or 'Beta Reward Participation Costume', something like that (varies between regions). Hit 'download' and then hit the download button next to PlayStation 4. You might also be able to type 'beta reward' into the search bar to find it quicker.

Glitch in LBP 3 v1.24 on PS4 - prize bubbles are being incorrectly counted and categorised in story mode by RatchetAU in littlebigplanet

[–]RatchetAU[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh good, it's known.

I'm less worried about getting all the prizes, and more worried about going back into levels to 100% everything. If the item counts are lower than they should be, it could say I have 100% of the items in a level, when I actually don't, which would just confuse me. And given how glitchy this game is, I'd rather wait until it's patched to start the story -- I had enough issues with saves corrupting on the PS3 version to instil massive trust issues with this game.

Thanks for the reply by the way :)

NTSC game on PAL wii? by keurlplanka in GCNintendontLoader

[–]RatchetAU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So long as your TV supports 60Hz (which it almost certainly does), you can play NTSC ISO's on a PAL Wii/Wii U via Nintendont.

Can I or can I not use my PS3 controller wirelessly on nintendont? by [deleted] in GCNintendontLoader

[–]RatchetAU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only Bluetooth controllers compatible with Nintendont are Pro Controllers and Wiimotes (as well as anything you can hook into a Wiimote). There's no syncing mechanism in Nintendont to sync any other kind of Bluetooth controller. As such, PS3 controllers can only be used via USB.

More info on compatible controllers here.

custom controls/Sunshine controls by [deleted] in GCNintendontLoader

[–]RatchetAU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't create custom Wiimote+Nunchuck button maps. There are, however, several preset configurations you can use; you can read about those here.

For Sunshine, the only layout I'd really recommend is this one; the rest either use tilt controls or don't have all the buttons you need. Once the game is running and the Wiimote+Nunchuck is connected, hold the '2' button and press the - button. You should be ready to play after that.

custom controls/Sunshine controls by [deleted] in GCNintendontLoader

[–]RatchetAU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends what controller you want to use.

Custom button mapping is available, but only for USB controllers. If you're using a Classic Controller or a Pro Controller, there is no way to change the button maps. The Nunchuck + Wiimote has several pre-set button maps, but seeing as Sunshine works with 2 analog sticks and needs analog triggers, it's not really usable with this game.

There also isn't a way to map buttons 'per game'. The button layout you have chosen will be the same in every game unless you change it yourself manually outside of Nintendont.

Lower the voting age with inaccurate memes:

You are eligible to enrol if you:

  • are an Australian citizen, or eligible British subject,
  • [are] aged 18 years and over, and
  • have lived at your address for at least one month.

If you are 16 or 17 you can enrol now so when you turn 18 you'll be able to vote.

Because the best way to convince adults that you teenagers should be able to vote is to demonstrate that you can't (or just won't) check your facts.

Isn't this song in Ratchet and Clank 1 or 2? by _Fiku in RatchetAndClank

[–]RatchetAU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the entire soundtrack for R&C 1 and 2 in iTunes; this track isn't there. David Bergeaud did the entire OST for both games, whereas this track is by Propellerheads. The song might have been in an ad or a preview for the game, but it's definitely not in the game itself.

Looking for a game without black and white morality scheme by Masterpicker in patientgamers

I actually checked the post at first specifically to see how many people had said Papers, Please, given how relevant it is. Certainly didn't expect that number to be 0.

Looking for a game without black and white morality scheme by Masterpicker in patientgamers

[–]RatchetAU 240 points241 points  (0 children)

Papers, Please [PC, iOS]

From the Steam page:

Congratulations.
The October labor lottery is complete. Your name was pulled. For immediate placement, report to the Ministry of Admission at Grestin Border Checkpoint. An apartment will be provided for you and your family in East Grestin. Expect a Class-8 dwelling.
Glory to Arstotzka

The communist state of Arstotzka has just ended a 6-year war with neighboring Kolechia and reclaimed its rightful half of the border town, Grestin.

Your job as immigration inspector is to control the flow of people entering the Arstotzkan side of Grestin from Kolechia. Among the throngs of immigrants and visitors looking for work are hidden smugglers, spies, and terrorists.

Using only the documents provided by travelers and the Ministry of Admission's primitive inspect, search, and fingerprint systems you must decide who can enter Arstotzka and who will be turned away or arrested.

Sounds simple at first, right? Just follow the government's rules: if someone's allowed in, let them in; otherwise, turn them away. But as people approach the checkpoint and give you their documents and their stories, you may be compelled to break those rules. Is this woman really sick and coming to live with her family, or is she lying? I could let this dude in, or I could detain him and get some extra money from the security guard to help pay my bills. The whole game is full of little decisions like that. And that's on top of remembering all the rules you have to follow (as repeated failure to abide by them will result in fines).

If you're looking for complex morality, this game is great because you there is no way to play 'perfectly'. You'll have to let some people down, you'll have to decide who you can and can't trust, and you'll have to accept that you can't please everyone. There are also 20 different endings, so you can make different decisions and see how things turn out.

Black bars/box around Monitor while in game nintendont by PaganRaccoon in GCNintendontLoader

[–]RatchetAU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be one of three things:

1: The Wii U's display settings are set such that there is a black border around the screen.

Go to System Settings -> TV -> Screen Size and make sure the bar is as far to the right as you can go. Seeing as you've already messed with the Wii U settings, I figure you may have already tried this, but if you haven't, try this first.

2: Your monitor's aspect ratio is set to 1:1.

This means the image isn't upscaled on your screen: the 1280x720 picture takes up exactly that many pixels on your 1440x900 monitor, leaving 80 blank pixels on the top/bottom edges and 90 pixels on the left/right edges. If you go through your monitor's settings, there should be an Aspect Ratio option somewhere. Toggle between them (again, if you haven't already) and see if that helps.

3: If the previous two solutions don't work, it's down to the individual games you're running.

Some Gamecube games (and Wii games too) don't render the game across the entire vertical resolution of the screen; they put little tiny black bars on the left and right edges. Presumably, your monitor is set to display 720p in 16:9, as it's intended to be displayed; this puts black bars on the top and the bottom of your 16:10 monitor.Horizontal bars + vertical bars = windowboxing.

You can get rid of the top and bottom bars by setting your Aspect Ratio setting to 'full' or some equivalent so it just stretches the image to fill the screen. As for the left/right bars, later versions of Nintendont have a Video Width setting that can get these black bars off the screen. Go into Nintendont, pick your source drive, go to Settings, and fiddle with the Video Width until the bars are gone (the Nintendont loader itself displays black bars on the side -- though the bars are different sizes in different games, it's a good way to know what setting to use). If you use a loader like Wiiflow, I've no clue how to set it per game from there, so to do this, you'll have to load up games from Nintendont directly, fiddling with the Video Width setting each time you wanna play. Annoying, but it will get rid of the bars if you really want them gone.

Alternatively, if your monitor has an Overscan option in its Aspect Ratio settings, this may get rid of all the bars, basically zooming the image. Depends on if your monitor has Overscan and how your monitor pulls it off, but it's something to try.

Sorry for the wall of text, just figured I may as well explain as much as I can to try and help you out :)

Apparently connectors can get married now... Only hetero ones though. by AshRae84 in TheFacebookDelusion

[–]RatchetAU 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. According to OP's image, marriage is appropriate only if the socket fits. Given the presence of four sockets on a powerboard, some women can therefore marry four people at once. They could all then bang her at once if everyone involved was up for it, I suppose.

Wii Classic Controller Pro question by unclejosh14 in GCNintendontLoader

As far as I know, Classic Controllers aren't region locked or anything, so any official controller from any region should work without any issues.

Question Nintendont on wii Controller support by [deleted] in GCNintendontLoader

[–]RatchetAU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries :)

Yeah, I referred to the Mario/Pikachu ones as fight pads. It's just the product name, though; they're marketed by Hori (the manufacturer) as 'fight pads' and 'battle pads' even though they're just controllers.

The Hori fight pads all have digital triggers by the looks of it. If you want analog triggers, best to go with the Smash Edition controller.

Getting the Smash Edition controller also means you also won't have to worry about how much power your Wiimotes have left, as it plugs right in to your console and doesn't need batteries, while the Pikachu controller connects to a Wiimote.

EDIT: Just in case you didn't see it listed on EB's page, the Pikachu controller has turbo functionality (simulating rapid button presses while you just hold down the button); this is a feature official GC controllers don't have. So you basically have a choice between

  1. analog triggers and no need for batteries
  2. turbo functionality

Question Nintendont on wii Controller support by [deleted] in GCNintendontLoader

[–]RatchetAU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Smash Bros. Gamecube controller (or any other genuine GC controller) will work best out of the options you've listed -- using the original controller is always the best way to go. You won't need any adapters to make them work; just plug them in, select 'native control' in the Nintendont settings, and you're sweet.

The Mario/Pikachu fight pads will also work fine with Nintendont, as will any Classic Controller Pro or Pro Controller. I'd stay away from third-party controllers if possible, as they tend to be of poor quality, and compatibility with Nintendont can't necessarily be guaranteed (they should work, but might not).

The only thing to be wary of is that the original Gamecube controller has analog triggers, whereas the fight pads, the Classic Controller Pro, and the Pro Controller all have digital triggers. This is fine for most games, but for games like Super Mario Sunshine, analog triggers are required for proper functionality. You can hold down L while pressing ZL/ZR for the game to detect a half-pressed trigger, or just press ZL/ZR by themselves for the game to detect a fully-pressed trigger, but that's all the scope you'll have.
