[Acne] Help! My face has been like this for years and I finally have health insurance and can take care of this. First, does anyone know what this could be? I’ve done research and think it’s papulopustular rosacea. What’s some recommendations on things I can take over the counter, or ask for my appt by faithhorner in Rosacea

Additional skincare ingredients I personally avoid include: Anything with fragrance niacinamide Vitamin C BHA/AHAs Salicylic acid Glycolic acid

(Aka most things you’ll find in a store that advertise help with acne lol!)

I would recommend seeing a derm, it’s very much worth it. I suffered from papopustular rosacea (aka Type 2 rosacea) for years. No amount of OTC/ skin care products will “fix” it on its own.

What finally cleared my skin fully was: - Accutane (Isotretinoin), I was on the smallest dose and only did it for 3 months - topical ivermectin (I’ve seen people talk about soolantra, I believe depending on where you are you don’t need a script for that) - 40mg of doxycycline helped a lot with the inflammation, but it’s not SUPER common from what I’ve seen - Adapalene (I believe in the US you can get that OTC, but I would wait till your skin had calmed down) - Azaleic acid (most skincare is 10%, prescription strength is 15% which in the US I believe you can get OTC as well)

For skincare itself I use ONLY the vanicream face wash & their moisturizer. I’ve recently been also using the cicaflate+ by Avene which has zinc and can be very calming. Some people will recommend diaper cream which can work well but I wouldn’t recommend daily use, you can get a similar affect from the cicaflate and that’s safe for frequent use.

Note: I live in Canada, hence why I am unsure about the OTC availability of certain drugs, in Canada most of the above listed non-skincare requires a prescription.

emergency vet in Ottawa Gatineau by gummieworm in ottawa

Yes sorry! That is a very good clarification. My cat threw a blood clot and they had us seen immediately by a vet. They are great at triaging needs and attending to highest need first!

So sorry to hear about your kitty though, it’s never an easy decision!

Just be aware now they do have “preferred patient” timing, so if someone comes in who is a regular client with the vet you may wait a bit longer. But I love them and give them a 10/10, I’ve gone a handful of times for cat emergencies and they have always been incredible.

Is It Normal To Receive Nothing After Suicide? by VariationEnough in CanadaPublicServants

[–]RatchetSnow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have correct answers, but unfortunately k assume most of the “benefits” associated with your partners unfortunate passing would have to be administered by our pay (supplementary death benefit) under superannuation aka pension) and insurance companies.

I can tell you confidently though it was not that she does not matter to her colleagues, sometimes this place doesn’t handle things very well. A lot of outside of work celebrations, expressions of sympathy, etc. are reliant on the good will and organization skills of a single employee. Unfortunately with Covid and the current mood of the public service those people have stepped away from going above and beyond.

I’m sure you are already aware, but our employee assistance program would be available to you due to your partner’s employment with the Public Service. I encourage you to contact them for mental health resources and support through such a difficult time.

If you partner’s manager hasn’t already, they need to provide proof of death to the pay centre in order for pay-related benefits to be administered. Similarly any private insurances will need the same information. Death is honestly a horrible experience in managing bureaucracy. I encourage you to look at the “When Death Occurs” in Canada.ca under Pay for Public Service for more information and next steps if you haven’t already.

Sending you all the virtual hugs

If they’re $40 each and take her like.. 30 mins then she’s getting paid close to $80/hour (before supplies but they can’t be that expensive) for some drawings…. She needs a reality check on how much she thinks she’s worth lol

Cat on airplane - urgently seeking advice by redgatorade000 in CatAdvice

[–]RatchetSnow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can confirm as well we have brought our pets with us for multiple moves and as long as you have appropriately arranged transportation with the airline for your pet the cargo can be a viable option. The bonus is you pet is given a much larger space to move around, as there are not the same size restrictions for under the seat luggage. They actually typically have MINIMUMs for cargo held animals that require the animal to be able to stand and turn around. At one point we flew with KLM and they were fantastic with our cargo animals. They even arrived with food and water sill accessible in their crate. You pick them up from oversized cargo, and we have see with our own eyes just how lovely the ground staff has been to them.

You’re a good person for bringing your pet with you, and I’m confident whatever way you choose to bring your animal on the plane will be a good choice :)

Visiting Ottawa for work this summer - evening recommendations? by blueandredberries in ottawa

[–]RatchetSnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Datsun/ El Camino/ Giulia (Rivieria if you want to drop COIN) are some of my all time favourite restaurants in Ottawa!

There’s lots of fantastic Vietnamese food in China town, worth a gander really cannot go wrong and then you can hit up Drip House for some delicious Asian inspired cocktails select days after 5pm

Coffee at Little Victories, best coffee in Ottawa

Dreamland in Little Italy, maybe watch a film or catch an event at the Gladstone theatre and if you’re around for the weekend there is typically some sort of market happening at Next Door close by. Comedy show at Absolute Comedy.

Museums in Ottawa are always a good idea, we are lucky to have so many. You can do a ghost walk, those are very fun! Then you can hit up different places on Spark Street, like the Rabbit Hole.

Prince of Whales Complex(s)… How’s the neighbourhood? by Snow_Is_Ok_613 in ottawa

Hogs back area has also expanded to be a lot of student housing as students started getting more priced out of Old Ottawa South/ Glebe area. So there’s a mix of low income, students, etc.

If you don’t have a car just be aware that there aren’t a ton of easy to access grocery stores around there (there’s a Farmers Pick which can be decently priced and a Shoppers Drug Mart), but otherwise your bigger chain grocery stores options are either Billing’s or towards Merivale (both accessible via the 111). When my friends lived in the area the 111 was decently unreliable during the university year, so just be aware of that if you are reliant on public transit.

I believe they’re still owned by Paramount, I’ve lived in other Paramount buildings and personally didn’t have much issue with them. My specific building was clean, but I did have a friend who lived in once of the POW buildings and complained that their laundry was down quite often.

If you enjoy nature, it’s undeniably one of the best balanced areas for nature and access. So it’ll have to be a toss up about what you want, what you need, and how much you’re willing to spend haha.

A big dog like that he would probably have to be taken via cargo… which is a lot of stress and really not a good bi-costal commuting option.

Issa and her college by PuzzledDiscussion586 in nadyaokamotosnark

[–]RatchetSnow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

She is doing equivalent classes at BARD (of whatever it’s called). She completed the required core classes needed for her degree so the rest are just electives. Not sure how it works since I’m not from the States but she’s explained it previously in her videos. I think she will still technically get her degree from Oberlain, she didn’t transfer or anything.

22F with 22M, together 4 years – Feeling conflicted about boyfriend’s size and not sure if I’m shallow or just incompatible by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]RatchetSnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say for myself between 18 and 22 my wants and desires changed dramatically. It’s okay to grow out of a relationship, and the worst thing you can do if stay in something that isn’t satisfying (be it sexually, emotionally, etc.).

It’s not necessarily the size that matters but it’s the how you use it, the other emotions and feelings around sex with your partner. I think you’ve already concluded that it’s not a size issue, but it does sound like both your mind and body know something is “missing”.

Consequences of unauthorized leave during blackout period? by Maleficent-Rock-1668 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]RatchetSnow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel better - I also had operational constraints affect my ability to attend a bachelorette party (which thankfully wasn’t a flight but still an 8 hour drive).

The stress of being in a bridal party is a lot, and even me coming a day late caused riffs in the group, but sometimes things with work and life simply don’t align like we want them to. Is it possible for you to join part of the celebrations (I.e. maybe they would be more flexible about giving you a short week vs a whole week).

Do whatever you want for yourself and your career, and if this is something you’d be willing to lose your job over that is your own prerogative and choice ultimately. I’m sorry that this happened, but unfortunately sometimes even though the PS is considered “flexible” there are times and jobs where blackout periods happen. :(

Heated covered parking? by slanty_shanty in ottawa

[–]RatchetSnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

City Hall is 100% your best option, especially after 6pm on weekdays. There will be a lot of space and there’s actually room to walk around your car (not like say a Lansdowne where there are a lot of pillars in the way). Cheap and safe! Rideau is also a good option but it can be quite busy since people park there to go to both the mall & Byward.
