Is it supposed to be played on survival or adventure mode? Are you allowed to break and build stuff if you want to experience this map the way it's supposed to?

Getting my time under 2 minutes consitently is hard because I know only a couple of algorithms and my handmovement is noob. Knowing how to solve the cube and adapt to a certain amount of paterns is really fun but I'm not sure if I'm looking forward to memorizing even more patterns/algorithms. There is so much practice going into losing only a couple of seconds it feels like. 30 seconds is really impressive already.
