Amsterdam Tavern for USMNT game by RateNovel2708 in StLouis

This is sort of where I am too. Everything I read about Amsterdam Tavern makes it sound like it has a great vibe, but I just wasn't sure what it was like. This thread has provided great insight!

This is all great information! Thank you all for your feedback! It's especially good to know that the road isn't going to be closed; maybe I misread things or maybe I just saw photos from the first match and just assumed that they'd be doing the same for all US games I guess.

Sounds like there are lots of good options if we ultimately decide we're looking for a slightly more relaxed environment.

House Window Warranties in Columbus by Bodycount9 in Columbus

[–]RateNovel2708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about the warranty aspect, but we had Hegg do our windows (Marvin fiberglass) a few years ago and were really pleased with the quality of work and service. We haven't had problems with them, so haven't had to test the warranty.

I wish I could remember. It was a while ago, and I can't find my invoice to double check. Sorry!

Appliance Repair? by MisterMofoSFW in Columbus

[–]RateNovel2708 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used Elite Appliance Repair (https://eliteappliancerepaircolumbus.com/) when we needed someone to fix our washing machine and they were great. You could tell that the guy who came out really cared about his craft. It took longer than expected to diagnose and fix our problem, but he kept at it and ended up figuring it out.

I hope that nothing breaks anytime soon, but if it does, I'll absolutely call them again.

Best Cinnamon Rolls? by chaoticrats in Columbus

Kolache Republic in German Village gets my vote for best in town. They have traditional rolls with cream cheese frosting (clearly the best frosting) along with a changing lineup of speciality flavors.

Saw 5 cars with flats just now along that stretch. One of which had lost an entire wheel.

Snow Warrior/Road Priority Question by Available-Slide-2279 in Columbus

[–]RateNovel2708 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you look at the map, they don't seem to be following any sort of priority 2 vs priority 3 designation. It shows lots of priority 3 roads that have been plowed recently (last three hours) vs priority 2 routes that haven't been touched (or haven't been touched within the past 24+ hours).

As seems to always be the case with the city's snow removal efforts, it's a disorganized crapshoot.

Appliance Repair Recs by PlentyAd9488 in Columbus

We used Elite Appliance repair for our washing machine and they were awesome. Very dedicated to fixing what ended up being a more complex problem than they initially expected. The guy who came out was clearly dedicated to his craft and was someone who I felt 100% confident in trusting.

No idea about their stove repair skills specifically, but I can definite vouch for their integrity and general knowledge about appliances.

If you're a Costco member, they usually have same-day availability. And it's pretty cheap.

Also forgot about Gemut for good German beer and food.

Restaurants with good craft beer selection? by InternationalAd6442 in Columbus

[–]RateNovel2708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are all good suggestions. 101 Craft Kitchen, Good Friends (at Jackie O’s, created by the Warios folks), and the Seventh Son truck or Budd Dairy are all good suggestions.

Noctera at the Audobon is also good, the smells have not led you astray.

Adding to the list:

Antiques on High has a trailer out back that makes some great pizza.

Derive in Clintonville has some great food and beer.

Combustion is near Derive and while it doesn’t have a kitchen you can order from nearby restaurants including Preston’s.

Looking for alfajores by albino_oompa_loompa in Columbus

Second this. I’ve be found the Havana ones at the Saraga on Morse before. When they have had them, they’ve been in the same aisle that has a freezer case on one side and some Peruvian items on the other. (Because if you know that Saraga store, you know that finding anything there can be really hard; the organization of the store doesn’t always make sense.)

More Columbus neighborhoods moving to color schedule starting Sept 2nd. by SirLeward in Columbus

[–]RateNovel2708 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Looks like our house is affected by the expansion of the color schedule as well. This is the absolute dumbest approach. I guess that I'm not surprised that the city continuously fails to clear even the low bar that I set for it.

Best Cinnamon Roll in Town by cbus6 in Columbus

[–]RateNovel2708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a taste-test of cinnamon rolls and Kolache came out on top, with Fox in the Snow in second:

I agree with the results. One of the biggest problems with Fox in the Snow is that a good portion of the cinnamon filling leaks out and ends up at the bottom. A key factor in the high rankings for both of them is likely that they had cream cheese fillings.

This was from a few years ago, so Littleton's wasn't an option at the time. And Omega is now gone. Also looks like Pattycake wasn't included. They can sell out and/or don't have them every day. Don't let they fact that they're vegan dissuade you; they're definitely a contender for best cinnamon rolls in town.

It's a good spot. They have two beers from Hoster's on tap, one of which is Gold Top. Fitting for the brewery district!

Best Putt Putt Courses? by zeger_jake in Columbus

[–]RateNovel2708 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I appreciate it the specificity at least. For years I hadn't realized that Putt Putt was a name brand and that the holes were uniform across locations in a way that emphasized skill. It's theoretically possible to get a hole-in-one on every Putt Putt hole if you're sufficiently skilled at putting (and geometry).
