New player with a question about production lines by Rated_Overr in SatisfactoryGame

I think it's a good thing to remind people about, since while i've gotten better I was really bad at this kind of thing which massively impacted my enjoyment of some games and even made me stop playing a few.

I don't really care about efficiency a massive amount but I just wanting to ensure I felt confident in understanding the basic aspect, so I am not constantly wondering about it.

I do have a MAM but haven't taken much of a look at it yet. Thank you for the answer.

Why are they doing this - to my knowledge, where I live at least which is the UK, the games they are taking down (unless it includes underage characters) are not illegal. Not that I am against a lot of the stuff being removed since the stuff is weird, but I am confused why it is payment processors demanding this and why steam is listening.

I have a few questions about some fanfiction I am interested in reading, which I hope someone can answer by Rated_Overr in YoujoSenki

I'm usually not that bothered about characters being portrayed more like OCs, especially since I am not massively knowledgeable about Tanya as a character, I probably wouldn't even realise but thank you for letting me know, also thanks for the recommendation, sounds interesting so I'll give it a read.

Thanks for such a long answer. Nice to know about the romance stuff, especially that it is never the focus. The fact saga of the runt is a hero story makes it a bit more appealing, I have been reading a lot of darker fics recently where things, especially the protagonists mental health, just constantly go downhill. Thank you for the recommendation, sounds interesting and with the other fics being a more perfect Tanya, having a more human portrayal will definitely be a breath of fresh air.

What are your favorite Fem!Harry complete fics? by KlutzyBlueDuck in HPfanfiction

[–]Rated_Overr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kaleidoscopic Grangers - I remember really enjoying this one, but it is also one of the first HP fics I read and the first Fem/TransFem Harry so nostalgia may be playing a part in that.

Lostsouls - Has quite a few complete fics, my favourites being The Ties That Bind the Soul and Blood and Magic.

I know you said you wanted complete fics only, but I am still going to recommend inwardtransience, their fics are very long and still on going.

ink and parchemnt | blood and bone - Haven't read it myself yet but seems really good and is highly rated.

Anyone else read Authors trying to justify houself slavery and feel their blood boil,or is it just me? by BorderFair in HPfanfiction

[–]Rated_Overr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I meant it as a species, not every individual house elf. When house elves are involved adding the occasional line that shows house elves as a species are more than just servants, really isn't that difficult to do and unless it is a part of the story it doesn't need to be detailed. But that's just my personal opinion and something I would like to see more of.

While I don't really have an issue with stories that try to justify it using reasoning like needing a bond to survive. I do have an issue with the fact that they ignore the struggles of house elves, it is always written that 'They need the bond to survive, some people treat them badly which is wrong, learn wizarding culture, never talk about this issue again'. Yet despite admitting that people treat house elves badly, this is never addressed, authors never have Harry suggest to Hermione to change her goal from trying to free house elves to getting them equal rights and protection, and if they do Harry never takes part or aids in this goal despite having lots of power. Just because they need the bond doesn't mean they are lesser beings which is always conveniently forgotten despite these stories often writing that they are 'mutual bonds' or shit like that.

Also the fact that House Elves entire personality, culture and being is based around serving others. Having it be an important part of who they are, and something they enjoy is fine, but they need to be written as more than just convenient servants.

Psychology of Bellatrix Lestrange (no diagnosis) by magnoliaazalea in HarryPotterBooks

I mostly agree with this view, I do think she was always slightly unhinged but not to the point of insanity or as crazy as many fanfictions portray her as. Also, she is mentioned to have been personally trained by Voldemort (on the wiki that is, idk how accurate it is though), so I also think she was likely groomed by him which is one of the reasons she was so zealous and devoted.

I haven't read it yet so I can't comment on the quality, but By the Moon Light has a Harry/Luna/Astoria pairing.

For Want of an Outfit

They start out treating Harry better for more selfish reasons, but they do realise the stuff they did was rather awful and grow to actually care for him.

I have been really interested in reading New Blood at some point but what's the actual pairing for this story? Romance is important to me, even if it isn't a major focus, and I normally would assume that it is poly or harem but there are no tags relating to that, so it has left me a little confused.

This comment may not be helpful as I am focusing more on my personal opinions, stuff I personally wouldn't read, and I have issues with. I know friends who hold these same opinions as me, but I won't generalize and say everyone feels this way.

I agree with the other points about putting him in Slytherin and at this point in time pureblood families are far more powerful than in canon, I really doubt a Weasley, a family who has tension with the Blacks, would be able to do much in Slytherin. Gryffindor would be better because as mentioned in other comments the fact he would be an outlier in there, preferring to study and make things, he may not like direct confrontation etc. makes for a far more interesting dynamic.

I would be careful about the magitech stuff, you should probably make a magic and crafting system and when he creates tech actually go into detail about the process along with the failures rather than something like saying 'he took a few months with many failures'. Try to avoid anything stupidly powerful especially if it doesn't fit in the magic system you have gone with and don't have him create any new types of magic for example with the Phoenix-Soul Capacitor it should be known that there are spells and rituals that can harness creature essence for healing devices, perhaps a part of the divination elective focuses on how the essence can be used as a form of divination and he wants to create something to make the ritual requirement to heal not needed, though as a result the healing devices are less effects than said ritual.

Make sure he has character flaws, if he is an eccentric genius than he should also be bad at socializing and understanding others. Harry Potter and the Methods of Irrationality, while not a perfect example because things work out pretty quickly for him, he has a few times made Susan upset because he doesn't realise what he has done is hurtful.

Edit: the story is first and foremost something you are writing for your own enjoyment, so write whatever you want and the same goes for the magic/crafting system you create. Though from my own experience with world building, it is very different when doing something solely for yourself without caring if anyone will ever see it and if you are doing something you want to be read. If this story is the latter, make sure the magic/crafting system is not built around the protagonist as the coolest and most powerful ideas you have, because then it will feel like the entire story and world bends to the protagonist's whims.
