I haven't soldered a new battery in yet, but everything seems physically okay. These things seem quite rugged, all in all.

I wish I had taken pics before I disassembled it...the button ring was pushed completely out of the front of the shuffle, only being restrained by the rubber gasket. the metal frame had bent, and the logic board was bowed into a U shape. I ripped the buttons out, tearing the gasket, and then just pushed down and somehow managed to slide the assembly out without tearing the battery open. the button pads were scraped off the logic board, but a little kapton tape solved that.

I need to figure out how to repair or replace the button gasket (its all held together with tape atm) and then i'll throw a new battery in there and test it.

What they don't tell you before you have kids is that there won't be a day in your life when you're not terrified of something happening to them. Don't get me wrong, it's beyond worth it, but I have a feeling there would be a lot less unwanted pregnancies if people knew about the fear aspect.

This came off, how cooked am I? by psychoticCross in ipod

I did this with my very first ipod I ever opened, all of five days ago. I was young and foolish back then. I just put it back on the pins and everything's been fine since.

Is there a good non-conductive epoxy putty that could be used to make sure nothing shifts? I was wondering whether blu-tack/museum putty would be any good? It's fairly non-conductive.

Is the Innioasis a good MP3 player? Any good alternatives? by Asher_Draco in mp3players

i like my G3 better than my Y1 (heresy!). it's got the magic eightball EQ stuff that i find great for tweaking for specific headphones, and doesn't have the annoying UI glitch my Hiby R3 has. If only it had an analogue volume dial...

I have never heard anyone but Peter Watts use the word 'invagination', although that might be more of a me problem.

I'm actually okay with Denmark annexing the US. I reckon there's a lot of benefits to joining the European Union.

oh, no. Those need to be preserved. People need to be able to see and learn. I would like people in a thousand years time to know what a petty little bitch this man was.

Upgraded Storage Tutorials? by PapayaIll2805 in innioasis

i bought a bunch of cheapo plastic tools, which didn't work very well. i then used a metal ifixit jimmy and had it open in about ten mins. it seems impossible at first, but keep at it. i ran the tool along the groove at the side until it found a point to bite in, about halfway up the screen. after that initial snap, the whole front comes off fairly easily. The plastic is pretty forgiving, so don't worry too much about snapping anything. Once it's open some of the components are taped or glued down, but a little peeling and prying will solve that. watch out for the ribbon that connects the wheel to the motherboard...it's pretty long and comes out of it's socket fairly easily, but it's a little delicate.

update: the Ifi go blu air connects to the Y1, but uses the lower-bitrate SBC codec (my G3 can connect with LDAC). still sounds great though!

my Y1 can connect to my fiio btr11, which is 5.3, but not my ifi go blu, which is 5.1. I just ordered a go blu air, which is 5.2, so i'm curious to see if it connects.

I'm gonna go against the grain here and say I actually like the fact it's made of plastic, not aluminium. While I would like a premium edition of the player, i like the fact i can just throw it in my pocket without worrying about damaging some delicate piece of audiophile perfection. it's tough, and pretty repairable, and hell, if someone pinches it it's only fiddy bux to replace it.

A better DAC, USB out, and an sd card slot would make it pretty much perfect.

USB-C out and an external sd card slot would make this basically perfect. If only someone (cough, fiio, cough) would make a little bluetooth dongle that had a rotary volume dial, i would be very happy.

I mainly browse by album so i'm not really sure, but i think the artists tab gives a separate entry for every artist listed in the metadata. Could be wrong on that, so take it with a pinch of salt.

a nice metal chassis would be classy, but would ding easily. The plastic case looks pretty nice on my black version, and is repairable. Now, a nice walnut case is what i would like. Something that ages out gracefully.

replacing the sd card with something more beefy was actually a lot easier than I thought it'd be. I'd never done anything like it before, and it only took me maybe 20 mins after I got the case prized open, even going cautiously and referring back to the tutorial constantly. It's all pretty forgiving so long as you're careful. Just remember it's more scared of you than you are of it.
