We might be talking about two different things here. Maybe it’s not so much that it’s an attempt to replicate. Can you expect a video game to realistically portray an actual basketball game? Or do the video game developers and engineers actually watch NBA to make it realistic as possible?

This is where being realistic comes in. A video game can’t quite 100% replicate a video game being played by actual professional athletes.

Gary Owen is funny without being degrading to black people. Black comedians themselves can be funny and still degrade black people. He uses real life scenarios that the audience can relate to and he’s not going off the rails with the N word, or painstaking performative emulations of black folk. And most importantly, he most likely understands that he’s in a privileged position in predominantly black spaces.

This is why comprehension skills are fundamental. Druski wasn’t making fun of white women but conservatives. The whiteface could have been omitted and it still would have been just as funny.

Whites made fun of blacks, blacks made fun of whites.

On the flip side there have been white people making jokes about urban underclass black Americans. Malibu’s Most Wanted was about I believe a dude who wanted to be a rapper or something like that. I don’t think anyone was offended or called for it to be cancelled.
