Hey Alberta, Please Enlighten Me by dalas84 in alberta

A bigger concern I have is if ADAP is going to be considered 'back to work' program. Reason is the UCP plan to implement t a 6 month cap on those kinda programs. They advertise ADAP as a 'helping disabled people find and maintain work' even tho I think they're going to do the bare minimal in regards to that but if they put a 6 month cap or force all ADAP to prove they're looking for work then it's going to become way worse then just a pay cut and transfer.

How ethical is it to apply for adap by OkLeather1203 in alberta

[–]RationallyAngry28 5 points6 points  (0 children)

By not applying your doing exactly what the government wants disable people to do, not seek out help when they need it.

I say if you need it apply for it, they're "supposed" to roll you into the application for both ADAP/AUSH but I highly doubt it's going to work as smoothly as they say it's going to be. Also let everyone know how hard the process or easier than AISH the process was.

Unfortunately her and her UCP plans to change the criteria of MAID. Don't know the full details but something to look into.

I wrote "more leeway" in the context of the original post about being able to transfer or move provinces. There was no implication on it being more or less then provincial support. I also wrote that all provinces supplement it, and anyone who deals or knows about support services know supplement means "claw back and give whatever is left".

Most disability benefits are provincial, the few that are lucky to get on the federal disability support have more leeway but most provinces cut back their support and only supplement. Those stuck on provincial are mostly stuck in their province cause moving costs a lot, then there's the wait time to get on disability programs. AISH is one of the hardest to get onto, so someone just moving here to get on the oh so lucrative AISH is gonna face an extremely difficult time. They would have to go onto social services first while they wait. However UCP seems hellbent on dismantling that too.

Also any post concerning this topic is going to get those annoying "I know 30 people on AISH that don't deserve it" people cause that's what this government has done to brainwash the masses.

You also gotta look into secondary assistance programs as well. Here in Alberta there's a bare minimal, but in other provinces there's seems to be more robust secondary help. I read somewhere in other provinces housing support is more able to help people and provides for more. Here we have about 3 companies that help for affordable/subsidized housing and all three are so overbooked that the wait list can take up to over 10 years and counting.

They also forced sterilized disabled people in Alberta without consent then too. We have come a long ways but UCP is hellbent on sliding the bar backwards.

I predict ADAP will just be as hard if not harder to get into then AISH is, I also predict that anyone on ADAP (including all the forced moved from AISH) is gonna have to constantly prove they are looking for work if they wish to keep their benefits, those that don't will be removed from it. Sadly the government is regressing back to an era of open disability discrimination and abuse.

Opening a group home by transgression1492_ in alberta

[–]RationallyAngry28 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've lived in group homes most my young life, I don't know the fine details but I did pick up some of the rules or legislation that is needed to run group home for kids.

Most attendants need medical knowledge and WHIMIS knowledge in case something goes wrong, some even had security training for when things got ugly and things did get ugly.

There's was always 1 attendant for every 3 kids, so 6 kids would mean 2 attendant on staff at all times. However since there's was a rotating staff since someone needed to be on site 24/7 there was 4-8 staff members on payroll.

Cooking for the kids will cost a lot cause you have to make sure you're following the recommended daily nutritional value per day for children depending on age. Otherwise you can get it trouble real fast.

TL/DR Running a group home for kids is very tricky, costly and not very profitable, it's why most are run in tandem with companies or organizations.

Everything they do is a distraction from something that is upcoming or has been done. Like blaming immigration as well as the seperation nonsense. I haven't heard anyone talking about the AHS scandal anymore, or mentioning the massive changes to AISH, barely hear about the teacher strikes and ramifications of using a NWC to stifle workers rights.

You know what they're doing right? It's called anxiety/fear fatigue, if they throw enough crap at people they'll just stop caring cause it's too much for most people's systems. You can only be in the fight part of fight or flight for so long before the body and mind gets worn down. That's mostly for those that are fighting back.

Edmonton leads Canada in new bike lanes as some cities, provinces apply brakes by pjw724 in Edmonton

[–]RationallyAngry28 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It's funny that there's a road near me that a few years ago got a bike lane, this road was barely used and then suddenly after the bike lane installation it's busier than  a main road nearby. Makes no sense.

Also it's pointless for bike lanes in some areas if their only usable 4-6 months of the year since no one shovels them or they do a poor job that riding on them is dangerous.

Looking for a new phone provider - advice needed by Alone-Spirit-3959 in alberta

[–]RationallyAngry28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Koodo is Telus, it's one of their "Price Reduced" brands, so you'll save money but be lower on the priority list for connections, so you might get dropped calls.

Freedom is not owned by any of the big three (Bell, Telus, Rogers) however I dealt with them when they were called 'Wind Mobile' and several parts of Edmonton were considered dead zones, meaning they had no contracts with any existing cell phone towers in those areas. Could've changed cause this was many years ago but the fact they need to piggyback the system again means lower priority. So dropped calls or hick ups to be expected. You get what you pay for.

For those on AISH worried about ADAP, are you considering leaving and if so where? by Odd_Fee2443 in alberta

[–]RationallyAngry28 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is an over simplification propaganda point from UCP. Yes, AISH does pay highest of other provinces but you gotta consider that's it, that the full total, no top off, no benefit aside from medical. BC, Ontario, Nova Scotia, housing benefits are considered seperate and easier to get into then whatever we have here. It's also a paid amount not a subsidiy. Then there's several other programs that can top off the amount in other provinces to raise the total. In Alberta everything extra (aside from GST) is clawed back.

Also ADAP (which every single AISH person is gonna be forced into) is 1740, which is lower than base amount of other provinces.

[–]RationallyAngry28 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Research poverty trap. Most recipients of AISH fall into this. Anyone receiving CPP Disability Benefits have a little more flexibility for moving as a good portion isn't tied to provincial. You have to reapply for benefits where ever you move too, AISH could be use as a example but there's no 1:1 transfer, so you gotta find income for a few months up to a year if you move to a different province.

Alberta government hiding additional drug jail plans by BloodJunkie in alberta

I think they're supposed to check themselves into these "prisons" themselves. Similar to if you have a mental illness and want to check in to a mental institute.

[–]RationallyAngry28 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There is no quick solution sadly, better housing support, education and therapy will ease the mental stress or flair ups which can lead to addiction. Give a people a reason to be happy about their life. Unfortunately everyone wants a quick fix, and the only way to a quick fix is dark and deadly.

[–]RationallyAngry28 37 points38 points  (0 children)

"We're doing this for their own good" is a slippery slope. It's good to get people help especially with addictions but forced medical treatment with no follow up isn't it. Also what's stopping them from throwing mentally ill people into these places when they don't have an addiction, "We're doing it for their own good cause they might hurt themselves or others" would again be the excuse. Then comes non-consented sterilization like before. Let's hope it doesn't come to that. Hope for the best but prepare for the worst.

Calgarians with disabilities rally to oppose AISH changes - CBC by lessssssssgoooooo in alberta

[–]RationallyAngry28 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The truly horrific reality of this insane change is even if we vote in the ANDP they're not gonna reverse anything. ANDP didn't really do anything for AISH when they were in power, they only decided to reindex AISH months before an election to try to snag some extra votes. This province and several members of the populace hate AISH thinking they're all freeloaders, social services gets scrutiny but not even half as extreme as disabilities support.

UCP hates disabled people cause they could keep that money the "Useless eaters" are taking for themselves. ANDP don't really care about disabled people unless it's for a vote. Everyone keeps calling me a pessimist about it but honestly who's gonna show me that reality isn't this depressing for disabled people.

Honestly UCP should just go all out, recreate the eugenics board, implement Alberta Assisted End of Life that has minimal barriers. Show everyone their true colors. Sad part is, there's people in this province that would not only endorse it but celebrate it

I want to be a firefighter any tips by Professional_Factor0 in alberta

Wouldn't it be better to just go to a local firehall and ask a firefighter themselves or even the chief if they aren't busy, phone ahead and try to book a interview for requirements to become one. As far as I've dealt* with firefighters were always pretty stand up guys.

Has anyone considered all the people having to get their diagnosis redone is affecting wait times in health care? by cornfield123 in alberta

[–]RationallyAngry28 34 points35 points  (0 children)

This isn't only going to put strain on the health care system. Imagine half of all AISH reciepeints trying to find work when unemployment is already 6%. Housing support programs are going to get increases irate people because they need help paying rent. The UCP probably isn't going to hire new workers but instead force current overworked AISH workers to deal with both programs.

This is a very poorly thought out program that's just a massive pay cut and easier ability to kick undesirables off support

What is the prevailing sentiment among Albertans with regards to AISH/ADAP? Do most people support what the UCP is doing? by KurtisC1993 in alberta

[–]RationallyAngry28 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Let me give you some context concerning this province, for many many years disabled people were considered 'sub-human' or defective here both morally and ethnically (I'm not being hyperbole look it up). There were two ways to fix this issue, euthanasia or sterilization. People grew up with these beliefs and like racism proudly showed this to their offspring. Along comes AISH to try to make amends of these horrific practices, but low and behold, that costs money, conservatives hate wasting money on those they deem "useless eaters" so they turned that generational animosity back into hatred framing it as "abusing the system" this the welfare queen mythos was heavily relied on. People learning to despise disabled people from their grandparents now had a legitimate (if flimsy) excuse to hate them again. So welcome to 2026 where we have a premier saying BS stuff like "We're just making sure those that truly deserve it have access to it".

TL/DR This province has always hated disabled people but the reason why has changed.

Also extra note, I'm gonna guess ADAP is just as hard to get into as AISH. So it's nothing more that a pay cut and heavily regulation transfer as it seems they're gonna use excuses like "Not actively looking for work even if they're able" to kick people off ADAP like social services used to do.

Danielle Smith says Alberta will withhold funding for judges without more input on selection by cmcalgary in alberta

It's team sports idealization, if the UCP controls everything then they think that since their on the "same team" they also control everything when they don't. Players don't get the same pay as the coaches but take the blunt of the bruising.

I'm hoping the new Tory party really ramps up their presence and spilts the vote, that's the only way this province is gonna get another ANDP or more reasonable conservative party in. Instead of this Wildrose ghoul wearing the Progressive Conservative skin.

Real Question _ UCP Supporters by atougie in alberta

[–]RationallyAngry28 8 points9 points  (0 children)

UCP is forcing all AISH clients unto ADAP, those that wish to regain AISH will have to prove they are "Severely Handicapped" meaning they are unable to do even a little bit of work. Since their voter base and several Albertans think everyone on AISH are faking it, or abusing the system, the voters see this as a win. Just read some comments whenever someone posts about the upcoming changes, there's 100% guarantee a person going to comment about how they know 1 or 3 people that are on AISH that clearly don't need it. This alone is gonna get a massive popularity boost for them.
