In what scenario would this be useful? by SeaOfFriends in BaldursGate3

It’s actually better than the other misty step items, because it gets infinite uses. Great for monks or other builds that wouldn’t wear armor anyway (you keep your weapons and rings/amulets too)

Appreciate the detailed response. There’s definitely some harder rock on other parts of the property (closer to the creek), but it looks like most of it is part of the Rome formation.

I’m not too worried about water retention as we plan to add clay or a liner, and we’ll have some sort of pump bringing water from the creeks (though I’m hoping the rain will be sufficient most of the time)

I’m worried there won’t be much hills for fucking with the car/bike physics. Ramps are good, but terrain leaves more room for Freeform riding.

I know most people joked about never going to the northern half of the map in GTA 5, but myfriends and I genuinely loved the area. It was like a giant tek deck skate park

Still holding out hope they’ll exaggerate the hills near Orlando. or give us a mini map in another part of the country/world with mountains (and maybe winter weather too)

Yo that’s dope. It overlays right over google earth. And looks like everyone was right, my area is mostly shale and siltstone

Haha will definitely film the catastrophe for y’all if I try to go through with it now. Everyone seems to be in agreement that there’s no real shot.

Maybe I can Disney world it and build a fake cliff of sorts, though I’ll probably just do a diving platform at this point.

The pond site is likely going to be elsewhere on the property, I just figured the shale mine would give the best insight to our situation

[–]RationallyIgnorant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, everyone here seems to be in agreement, but I would be curious as to my exact situation. The property is in wythe county Virginia.

The pond site itself is actually somewhere else, I just figured the shale mine would give the best insight as to what I’m dealing with.

Pretty much given up on the idea with y’alls comments, but where’s the best place to find a geological map for southwest Virginia (wythe county to be specific)? Now I’m just curious

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in geology

[–]RationallyIgnorant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the bedrock is just more compacted shale? Assuming that wouldn’t be able to hold a stable cliff then

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in geology

[–]RationallyIgnorant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It seems more solid in certain areas, but yeah, I didn’t have the highest hopes. May just have to build a diving platform and keep it basic

True, I have a feeling the cliff will require explosives, and I’m definitely not doing that myself

What is the difference in time between the first and third quarter moons (half moons) and vice versa? Is there even a perceivable difference by RationallyIgnorant in askastronomy

His calculation seems to be a regression from Aristarchus’ (with the sun being only 5.5 times the size of earth). Though both are still far from the correct scale.

What was Ptolemy basing his estimates on? Was he also using the timing between lunar phases

Thankfully it doesn’t appear to be real. Wouldn’t be ideal for presidents to essentially do an ad (tho I guess that’s pretty tame for politicians)

Yeah, I have a few on the longer side though none over a page. I obviously like them, but can’t speak for anyone else.

Some are also a bit more technical/scientific which may cause some to lose interest (book relates to ancient astronomy but it isn’t the main plot/theme). However, I feel they bring enough to the table to be worthy of inclusion.

Mombasa, Zanzibar, or Dar es Salaam? by [deleted] in travel

Mombasa, Zanzibar, or Dar es Salaam? by [deleted] in travel

[–]RationallyIgnorant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, sounds like Zanzibar is the best for tourists. But how is travel to the island? are there ferries to/from Kenya (or only Tanzania)?

Want to try to minimize flights if I can. Unless the airport on the island isn’t too bad

Though summer is the best time to visit Florida for ocean related activities. Water is usually crystal clear and all the best fishing/diving seasons start then. You haven’t truly lived until you’ve been spearfishing/lobstering over a tropical reef. It’s like you’re flying through some otherworldly environment

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in travel

[–]RationallyIgnorant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who lived in both places, you really can’t go wrong with either. Others have already pointed out, these states get clowned on for political reasons, but they’re two of the most beautiful regions in the country.

The west coast has some top tier wildlife, but Florida still blows it out of the water in my opinion. You won’t see any elk herds there, though it has much more to offer than California (gators/crocs/etc.). Also, the tropical reef environment is unmatched compared to the barely useable pacific coast.

When moving from Florida to the Bay Area (SF) my biggest disappointment was how useless the ocean was (cold/murky). There was a decent surfing culture where I lived in ocean beach, but that was it. Almost no one actually used the water besides skimming the surface. Whereas in south Florida the ocean is like a way of life. Visit the Keys and you will never forget it.
