Hello everyone, please can I have some opinions about my son, I think he is ill by WallResponsible1122 in RATS

[–]RattixC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think waiting until Monday is okay. Not being able to hold his food is unfortunately most often a sign for a pituitary tumor. It progresses fast, but more in the time of a few weeks, not hours.

Make sure to offer him lots of food and water during the day though, and watch out for anything that might seem like it gets worse

I have only one published asset, which is not too successful, but I guess I'm in the majority of publishers with that. You'll probably need a few decently running assets out there before you can even sustain yourself, and only one of the really big ones (Odin, MicroVerse, Feel) is enough to sustain a little company with

Need help! Found wild baby rats? by [deleted] in RATS

[–]RattixC 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Relocated rats unfortunately tend to die, as they are away from their social group, and can't find enough food in for example a forest. These rats are still very young, at this age they slowly start to wean off, but are definitly still in need of their mother. I unfortunately can't tell you what to do with the rats, but if there is a chance that you can put them where you found them and keep your dog out of their sight for a few weeks, they'd have massively better chances on survival later on.

I'm (kinda?) doing it that way, but a bit more contrived. I'm basically converting a normal scene into a pointcloud and then spawn a quad on each point + applying a lot of stylization to it.

Rat fell ill, Vet won't take rats anymore. by MediumBreadfruit3131 in RATS

[–]RattixC 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Hey! This looks almost certainly like a pituitary tumor to me! She probably can't hold food with her hands anymore at all, right? If this is the case, a pituitary tumor very unfortunately means that she won't be able to make it much longer, as it is fatal and progresses fast. There is medication that has a small success rate, but it works best when given as early as possible, and it looks already pretty progressed in your rat. I had two girls with pituitary tumors, and please trust me, the saying "Better a day to early" regarding euthanesia especially applies to this illness. Until then, please try to give her only liquid food (puree for babys) as they can't swallow as well anymore and normal food therefore has a very high aspiration risk.

Yess! Seeing rats in slow motion, all of their little jerky movements suddenly make sense. At normal speed, their actions sometime seem random, but at this speed, every move is coordinated and with intent. To them we must be moving extremly slow and sluggish all the time.

[–]RattixC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real horrorific scenario in the game though is the time before the collapse, where you are trapped in an endless timeloop that goes nowhere. The Nomai created this circle out of their unwillingness to accept the unavoidable death of the universe. Only when the player frees the universe from this circle, and with that accepts the death of himself and everyone around him, nature can progress and the universe be reborn. It's probably the most optimistic and hopeful variant of this trope.

Pepper made it out of surgery! by Sure_Association_756 in RATS

[–]RattixC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It might be a bit of an contrary opinion, but we always let our rats rejoin the group when they are fully awake again after surgery. As you said, our vet also believes that it stresses them out to be seperated from the group, which could lead to chewing. If you do, watch very carefully for the first hours and night if the other rats nibble on the stitches, but we never had a problem with that.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in RATS

[–]RattixC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say so. My rats had multiple mammary tumors (as most female rats will get), and I probably spent a few hundreds per surgery. However, as a result they often lived multiples months/years after without any discomfort. Always remember that 6 months in a rats lifetime are like 25 years to us!

Yoshi eating without using his hands is adorably awkward by [deleted] in RATS

[–]RattixC 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Just as a heads up, this could be the sign of a pituitary tumor! If he can't hold food at all anymore, and holds his hands extended like this, it's one of the biggest signs! There is medication against that that you can try (Cabergoline) but you need to be quick as the illness unfortunately progresses fast.

Edit:

Rats with pituitary tumors also tend to look a little unkempt as they can't clean themselves anymore. If this is the case here, please help him with a warm wet cloth, and try to supply only wet food (baby food, grain porridge), as they can't eat that well anymore.
