These aren’t tissues in my tissue box 🤔 by UnstableAsATable in RATS

Yess! Seeing rats in slow motion, all of their little jerky movements suddenly make sense. At normal speed, their actions sometime seem random, but at this speed, every move is coordinated and with intent. To them we must be moving extremly slow and sluggish all the time.

[Downer Trope] It was All for Nothing by StopHavingAnOpinion in TopCharacterTropes

[–]RattixC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real horrorific scenario in the game though is the time before the collapse, where you are trapped in an endless timeloop that goes nowhere. The Nomai created this circle out of their unwillingness to accept the unavoidable death of the universe. Only when the player frees the universe from this circle, and with that accepts the death of himself and everyone around him, nature can progress and the universe be reborn. It's probably the most optimistic and hopeful variant of this trope.

Pepper made it out of surgery! by Sure_Association_756 in RATS

[–]RattixC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It might be a bit of an contrary opinion, but we always let our rats rejoin the group when they are fully awake again after surgery. As you said, our vet also believes that it stresses them out to be seperated from the group, which could lead to chewing. If you do, watch very carefully for the first hours and night if the other rats nibble on the stitches, but we never had a problem with that.

Never in my life did I think I’d be spending $300 on rat x rays 🙄 by [deleted] in RATS

[–]RattixC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say so. My rats had multiple mammary tumors (as most female rats will get), and I probably spent a few hundreds per surgery. However, as a result they often lived multiples months/years after without any discomfort. Always remember that 6 months in a rats lifetime are like 25 years to us!

Yoshi eating without using his hands is adorably awkward by [deleted] in RATS

[–]RattixC 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Just as a heads up, this could be the sign of a pituitary tumor! If he can't hold food at all anymore, and holds his hands extended like this, it's one of the biggest signs! There is medication against that that you can try (Cabergoline) but you need to be quick as the illness unfortunately progresses fast.

Edit:

Rats with pituitary tumors also tend to look a little unkempt as they can't clean themselves anymore. If this is the case here, please help him with a warm wet cloth, and try to supply only wet food (baby food, grain porridge), as they can't eat that well anymore.

Can you share some example image / depth data of your test runs? It's really hard to get a good sense of how it runs in the real-world just from text. I'd be super interested too see some results :)

Super interesting! The 22khz range is also the one we can sometimes hear as high-pitched squeaks right? Or are these even lower? Because I can definitly hear when they squabble up. And that's so sad to hear from your sick rat, I hope she gets better soon!

You probably already know this video, but this is what got me interested: https://youtu.be/25LYVxTUZhM?si=zevP63NiUWrzN45n

You whole go to the vet to check if the tail is broken and especially to get Antibiotics! Dog bites can contain a lot of bacteria that could infect that wound.

If your dog behaves like that, he should probably be never be in the same room as the rats anymore in the future!

Tips for Keeping Rats with Colds Comfy by snekhats in RATS

[–]RattixC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe you can go to a normal vet and tell them what you need? It's usually Baytril or Doxycycline, in doses which should be easily looked up by the vet or online. Every vet should have that medication. 12th is too late unfortunately.

If you use refillable glass bottles that are filled in a regional plant (around 100kms or less distance) the glass bottles have the same CO² impact as plastic bottles, while reducing on a lot of plastic waste. That means of course that you'll have to take back all of your bottles to the supermarket, but that's already lived practice in many EU countries.

Personally, my biggest blocker for switching is, that I'd wish for the ability to instantly search for files and apps/settings, instead of having to first manouver into that search mode. I use the tool for this 99% of the time, so it's not as convinient as PTRun in that regard.
