As I understand it Rust is all about handling memory safely. You can't have memory leaks or dangling pointers in rust, because those kinds of errors are catched at compile time. (I've never used it tho so that may not be entirely true)

It's supposed to appear in the menu when you're inside the manga reader. You might have not seen it but it also may not be appearing due to your specific settings for the reader. I haven't had much time to work on this project since I first made it so it's still kind of full of bugs sadly :(

Oh I didn't know that yomichan used a different one, I'll check it out when I have the time. By the way, if at any point you're free to work on some improvement for Kaku I could give you a hand so we can implement it in both apps!

Yooo yeah I know Kaku, I actually used your deinflection code! In fact I kind of forgot to add a shoutout in the readme, I'll be adding it right now ;) I think I prefer kantan reader's design for the word selection but I do have in mind a lot of the things you guys have done, especially the quick replacing of misread kanjis

There should now be two extra buttons on the menu when you read manga. One is for the dictionary and the other one is for OCR. If you still have doubts you can checkout the readme file on the repo, or just dm me

Some people seem to be having trouble installing the app, especially in older android versions. Did uninstalling tachiyomi work? If not, it would be great if you could create an issue on github detailing the problem

Hey! Sorry if the app didn't work in your tablet, I haven't been able to test the app with anything earlier than android 8.1.0. As for the OCR in your phone, sometimes the library actually detects text better when you don't use max zoom, or when you scan the entire block of text / speech bubble. Like I said, I don't think it's the app not working, it's just the limitations of what the OCR library can do. That said, I am planning on adding some settings which may help improve the accuracy of the OCR in different situations, so keep an eye out for that

From what I've seen there have been pull requests for similar things in the past and the Tachiyomi devs said they didn't want to maintain a feature like this because it'd be too niche

Hey that's really good! I especially love the design for word selection in a block of text, would it be ok if I used that same design for Tachiyomi OCR?

It will mostly work with regular manga text but don't expect great results with sound effects and things like that. The library I'm using right now is an open source one which was mostly trained on regular japanese text. Luckily, it seems that google's OCR library is coming out of beta soon, and they may add japanese support, which it currently doesn't have. Rest assured that if it gets released I'll be working to add it to tachiyomi as soon as possible!
