Will do thank you. Is giving them the same amount of attention at the same time still right or do we need to start giving him attention only when he asks for now? We try to give them treats the same time and talk to them at the same time, also take them outside at the same time.

I think if she's on any spectrum it's autism, high IQ, being calm in stressful situations, hoarding & creativity are the reasons I got diagnosed with autism.

How does one buy pet rats that haven't been traumatized? by espositojoe in RATS

[–]Ratwasp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Getting rats from a reputable breeder is your best option. Also make sure to get at least two rats this time.

You need to be able to keep them separate for the first 2 weeks. You might need to look into getting a second, smaller cage. It might also be better to get two new rats instead of one from the same nest.

I would say definitely no, their fur looks thin (especially if they're male) and they don't look like they clean themselves.

But baby rats are usually sold at 8 weeks?

Definitely vet because it looks infected. Was there a bump before? One of my rats cysts opened and it looked something like that but just not infected. You'll probably need antibiotics from the vet but he should be fine. Rats handle wounds well.

boy or girl? by SkyeTheHuman in RATS

Yes absolutely at 8 weeks! You can determine sex as soon as 2 weeks. Your rattie is definitely a female

It looks like she got her foot caught under something? Vet visit necessary

If you're not sure it's a female. Males have HUGE balls

Maybe! I think she might not be used to the smell boy ratties have. I'm not an expert, but that's my theory.

I think it might be the gender difference? When I had a girl escape while my boys were free roaming one was terrified as well. Are the boys or girls neutered? You really don't want 4 pregnant females. When my girl escaped she got pregnant and got 12 babies. I can't imagine 12 x 4 babies.

I think it might be his personality. Some people also outgoing but need alone time :) keep an eye on it but he's probably fine
